History
Xeroth was completely uninhabitable by any sentient species, but had millions of different species of flora and fauna. The planet was first discovered by a mercenary group known as The Wraiths circa 12,000 BBY. They used the planet as a base of operations for many hundreds of years. Over the years though the mercenary group had become less and less focused on their militant side and their base of operations turned into the first city on Xeroth, Talyan. Eventually The Wraiths were disbanded and their leaders became part of the first government of Xeroth. Some of the group did not see eye to eye in that decision and they split off and formed a new settlement someways away from Talyan named Cerebuck.
After a few thousand years both of these "societies" would eventually grow big enough to encompass most of the planet, and these countries took their names from the cities that bore them, Talyan and Cerebuck. Conflicts between the two countries were common and bloody, even after thousands of years their ideologies were too different from one another for any type of long lasting peace. Most of the fighting took place near the equator of the planet where their borders met. Luckily this was far from any of the major cities or settlements; any civilian casualties were almost non-existent. If there was one thing both sides could agree on is that civilians should never be harmed, and there were strict laws against any amount of harm against a non-combatant. This commonality was likely a result of one of The Wraiths regulations: As a Wraith, my duty is to uphold the contract that I have been assigned to. This contract is for military personal only. Any direct harm to a civilian will be strictly and swiftly punished. For this exact reason no weapons of mass destruction were ever used on the planet.
Surprisingly the outside galaxy never took an interest in the Folw system. They never received many visitors, and Xeroth itself was enough to sustain the growing population for many more years. In 2318 BBY however an Old Republic starship jumped into the system and immediately crash landed on the planet. This normally wouldn't be anything worthy of note, but the ship contained several dozen Jedi younglings. Unfortunately when the ship crashed both the pilots and the Elder Jedi had perished. The crash had set both nations of Xeroth on alert and each, while giving aid to the younglings, were suspicious of the other. For the sake of the children both sides agreed to house the children in a complex built on the border of both countries. The children grew up together, and while they had no masters a few of the older ones were able to supply the knowledge they knew to the others. Eventually the children grew up, as they do, and formed relationships with both the Talyans and Cerebucks. After forty years the complex on the border was abandoned, the Jedi fused into the general population. There was a bigger consequence of this however: Taylan and Cerebuck enjoyed peaceful relations for a thousand years after the incident. Historians would look back at this time and wonder why the Old Republic never came searching, or why the governments at that time never tried to contact anyone about the crash. These questions would one day lead a Dark Jedi Knight to their answers.
The Old Republic turning into the Galactic Empire and the Galactic Empire turning into the New Republic did almost nothing to change the currents on Xeroth. They still warred with each other, one side gaining a kilometer here and there. But that all changed when Talyan General decided to set off a multiple megaton device some kilometers outside of Omani, a coastal city in Cerebuck. This changed things for both sides. It was universally condemned by both parties, and the General responsible for incident was tried and killed. This attack would lead to more and more civilian deaths over the next two decades as Cerebuck retailed by attacking one of Talyan cities, and then they traded blows like that for the rest of the war. It wasn't until 27 ABY that this conflict would end.
In 27 ABY a Talyan Advocacy Service agent, Condar Sovar, went dark during a mission deep in Cerebuck territory. This caused a stir in the TAS' communications, which was exacerbated when the agent's uncle, Jal Skid, found out and started contacting his friends in the government. The Cerebuck government knew something was wrong as they hadn't heard this much chatter since the incident outside of Omani. They believed another massive bomb would go off in one of their cities. This was "confirmed" when they picked up a freighter, with IFF codes matching the Taylan military, making a straight shot for their capital. Thinking the worse the Cerebuck government decided to surrender to Talyan to make sure that there was no further loss of life, especially in the most populated city on the planet. The Talyans not wanting to give up this opportunity agreed to stop the "bomb" and called back the freighter and Jal Skid, who was only trying to search for Condar. The Taylan government has never divulged what really happened to the Cerebuck government, and this would be a good thing for they have not been at war since.
Unfortunately being unnoticed by the galaxy stopped in 29 ABY when a fleet of Yuuzhan Vong ships jumped into the system. The whole of Xeroth was unprepared for this, and had no defenses. Even their "war-machine" was only able to put up a fight for an hour or two. The planet was ravaged, cities were destroyed, lakes boiled and over thirty percent of the population had perished. Thousands had died while fleeing the system as well. Only one ship in ten would make it through the blockade. Then as soon as they had came they left. The fleet abandoned the system very rapidly as if they knew of some larger force was out to get them. Nothing ever showed up though. Any thought about further conflict from either country after that was heresy, they abandoned their old hatreds and formed a one world government, one to rise from the ashes of the old.
Present Day
Eight years after the attack from the Yuuzhan Vong sees a different planet altogether. While still feeling the effects of that brief encounter, the Xerothian government has cleaned up and rebuilt many of their cities. Their citizens work together for the good of all the planet, and they even now have some relations with the New Republic. During the rebuilding process the Xerothians started trading with nearby worlds for Duracrete, and Tibanna Gas. This lead to some visits from these worlds to Xeroth. During one of these visits a craftsman discovered that the trees of the many forests on the planet have some unique and strange properties. With the right catalyst the wood could have a tensile strength similar to durasteel. This lead to some very lucrative exporting of this wood. As more and more people visit Xeroth many will say they feel a pull to leave the system, as if they feel danger will find them there. None of the native Xerothians have ever felt this at all, and all they want to do is stay on their world.
