The Spirit Of Avaris

Into The Belly

Avaris Zen escapes the temple

A great darkness was stirring in the Force. Everyone in the Jedi Order sensed it but no one knew how dark things would truly become. A newly appointed Emporer and Sith Lord known as Darth Sidious had been plotting his way towards supremacy and those standing in his way, anyone deemed a threat, would need to be eradicated. To frame the Jedi for a coup, he made them enemies of the Republic and called forth Order 66. Among the many that were slain, there were those who refused to fall. One such resistor was Avaris Zen, a Jedi in his prime serving as a Jedi Temple Guard. Singlehandedly he managed to carve his way out of the Temple, leaving a sea of slain Clones in his wake.

The call had gone out that any Jedi seen was to be detained or killed but it was within his best interest to hide in plain sight. Very few remembered what he looked like outside of his armor and those who did were already dead. The underbelly of Coruscant would become his safe haven even though it was the roughest district on the eucemonopolis. Seeking sanctuary, he would find it in the form of a beautiful young lady named Sensa Vurk. On the surface she was a street urchin, in her spirit she was a Rebel. The fact that she was also a member of the Church of the Force was an even more welcoming sight as was the fact that her father was a high ranking official and formerly a Senator who still had some diplomatic pull.

Resistance Is Futile

While the Jedi on various worlds were being exterminated. Durden Vurk, Sensa's father looked to Avaris to be the key in bringing balance back to the Galaxy, the last hope in a universe overflowing with evil. Even as Avaris felt his friends slipping into the Force, he was ordered to stand down. To live to fight another day. But while the battles raged on, he was able to send out warnings to his brothers and sisters. Much like the warning he received from Master Kenobi. While he liked to think that he was successful, he couldn't help but to struggle with the pangs of death stabbing his senses.

The day to day grind was becoming more normal as he taught within the Church, all the while growing closer to Sensa. Her breathtaking beauty and resolve were enchanting. Still, a Jedi was to live without attachments. But he could no longer call himself a Jedi. He had failed to protect the temple. Perhaps for survival he would entertain the thought. For a year the two got to know each other and eventually they became inseparable. They would give in to their desires and act on their fantasies. However as they laid with one another, explosions rattled the Coruscanti underground. The Church was under assault by the Empire.

Springing into action, Avaris was still a Jedi in spirit as he managed to kill many Imperials. The sight of his lightsaber made him an even bigger target as the room filled with a steady yet cold heavy breathing. He ordered Sensa to flee and reluctantly she did. But when she turned back, she saw Avaris impaled by the tip of a red lightsaber and slump to the ground. She hid in the underground until the coast was clear and there was her love, wearing his armor and clutching his lightsaber. With his dying breath, he looked into her eyes and told her to give the items to his child. She looked on with tears in her eyes, confused. She didn't know what he was talking about. But Avaris had sensed a new life before slipping into the Force.

Changing Of The Guard

Sensa Vurk with child

For a time, Sensa was riddled with anxiety and fear. But the uneasiness in her belly was more than just grief for the passing of her companion. It was because she was pregnant. New life churned within, growing in the Force with an uncertainty she couldn't help but shake. For the months that she carried her child, she was on edge, hiding and lurking in the shadows of the underground after her home had been destroyed by Imperial intruders. It was the first calendar month of the year, Elona and on the third day, that she gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She would call him Vao and he would take the surname of his father, Zen.

The boy was special, she knew it in her heart, so she was far more protective of him than the other mothers of the Coruscanti slums would be. She kept him on a tight leash but as he grew, he had a natural curiosity and an adventurous spirit. Most days were spent sneaking away and neglecting his duties. His young life was filled with exploration and ambition. Sensa did her best to shelter him but as she began teaching him of the Force and the Jedi Order, his desire to learn more drove him towards reckless decision making and carelessness as he ventured closer and closer to the surface of his homeworld.
