History
Tratlaum was the 1st planet in the Ovegnii system, a star system located in the far reaches of Hutt Space. A tribe of witches had baptized it originally as Osasdii, until it was claimed by a small mining guild under the umbrella of Czerka Corporations. Trade wars and over-mining have turned the air toxic, causing it to be classified as a type III atmosphere. Piracy and scattered Imperial Remnant factions have made the sector almost impossible to safely navigate. Ruins of ancient civilizations and abandoned mining towns dot the surface, while its depths still contain many riches.
It is still vaguely known among daring and unethical prospecting businesses. But for most low-wage workers the planet is a death-trap. Rumors of spirits and monsters persist. Ancient tablets have been recovered dating back to the Great Hyperspace War. Translated texts tell of giant underground pyramids and necropolises housing thousands of dead. Legends say that their spirits have seeped into the flora and fauna. One known incident involving the death of a group of miners reported cuts from venomous claws, identical to beasts known from the ancient texts as Terentatek claws.
Flora
Some hardy vegetation has adapted to survive in the harsh chemical pollution. Several teal-colored types of grasses, fluorescent fungi, and red algae. One tree called the Bleeding Willow managed to thrive for millennia until it was over-harvested for its medicinal, white sap and delicious bark. Accounts from witches state that the famous tree of life was the soul of the planet itself. Scientists determined that all material gathered from Bleeding Willows had identical genetic coding. Its last living bark dates back to 22 ABY, found near the corpse of a miner.
Climate
Tratlaum's sky is amethyst in color due to the thick xenon and mercury-vapor-tinged atmosphere and the red light of the system's old star, Ovegnii. The air has a strange way of creeping up on oxygen-breathing species, starting with confusion and leading to nausea, aggression, forgetfulness, cranial pressure, and eventually death. Nights are long and the daylight is always a dim purple. Acid rain is common in the evenings, while electrical storms are frequent in the morning and night. The average planetary temperature is 11 degrees Celsius, but it is generally very cold outside of Ovegnii's light. Much of Tratlaum's fauna has developed an ability to see in the UV spectrum and much of its flora has intense UV coloration. Clean water is mostly found in the roots of plants that filter out acids and heavy metals.
Location
Pirates have been known to obfuscate Tratlaum's location, giving out invalid hyperspace coordinates en masse. To make travel worse, hyperspace tends to be temperamental around the purple planet. It is advised to drop out of hyperspace well ahead of Tratlaum's strong gravitational pull.
Orbit
There are three space stations in orbit around Tratlaum, all of which are popular trading hubs. Port Deonor is the largest and most important. Station Gamma is the security hub and is rumored to be Imperial Remnant affiliated. Hrotni's Diner is a stranded Venator I-class Star Destroyer, known for very special cuisine.
