Youth:

Jaxyn Rax was born aboard a space freighter in 3 BBY. His father, Kutrar Rax, was Kiffar. His mother, Cyntava Kintri, was human. When his father tried to take him back to his clan to receive the clan tattoo at the age of five, the clan rejected him because of his mixed blood. He was raised aboard a ship by his parents. They tried to teach him all they could, especially about the ship. By the age of ten, he was helping them to fly their freighter.

Loss and Heartache:

When Jaxyn was fourteen, the family’s freighter was attacked by pirates. His mother rushed him into a storage room, opened a secret panel, and pushed him into the hiding spot. “Stay here, no matter what happens, and take this.” She handed him a credit chit that held the account information with all their savings. “You’ll need it after, and we don’t want them to find it. Now promise me you’ll stay here and be very quiet.”

“I promise.” He was terrified, but obeyed. She closed the panel to hide him and ran to join her husband. When the pirates boarded, he could hear them ransacking the ship and shouting to each other. He tucked the credit chit into his pocket and prayed that they wouldn’t find him. Though he also felt like such a coward, he knew his mother was right; against a fully armed group of pirates, he wouldn’t stand a chance if he didn’t stay hidden until they were gone.

He heard blaster shots, his mother’s screams, and more blaster shots. He bit his lip and held back the tears that wanted to fall. He had to keep it together; he couldn’t make any sounds. He prayed harder that the pirates would leave the ship soon. He waited, listening carefully. He heard the pirate ship disconnect from theirs. He hoped the air lock was intact, but he didn’t hear any of the whooshing sound that would have indicated a damaged seal. He waited a while longer; it seemed like an eternity, but he heard no other sounds. Finally, he decided to risk it and exited his hiding place.

He found his parents and the rest of the crew, all dead. Tears stung his eyes, and he knelt down by his parents. He vowed that someday, he would avenge them. But for now, all he could do was wipe away the tears and then find blankets to cover them with. He went up to the cockpit, and thankfully, the astromech was still intact, just knocked over. He helped it upright and hugged it. “You alright, C1?”

The droid affirmed it was functional, so with the droid’s help, he made his way to the nearest place that might purchase the ship. He couldn’t keep it, knowing that was where his parents and friends died.

A New Beginning:

Once he was able to sell his parents’ freighter, that amount, combined with what savings his parents had left him, was enough to buy a new ship. But he also realized it wouldn’t be a good investment just yet. Not many crew members would be willing to take orders from a scrawny fourteen-year-old boy. He would have to bank his savings for now and find work on someone else’s vessel or somewhere. He would have to bide his time until he was grown, then he could buy his own ship and go hunting for the pirates that killed his family.

It took a couple of weeks of persistent hunting to find work on the docks. At least he could keep track of ships coming and going. He’d keep his ear to the ground for any chance of work on a ship. But for now, any work was more credits in the bank, though they paid him less because of his age, it still helped. He was able to stay fed, and he had a small apartment to live in.

The Red Dawn:

By the time Jaxyn was eighteen, he had filled out quite a bit from several years of hard labor working in the docks. Now, he felt confident he could get his own ship and a small, trustworthy crew, and then he would start his hunt for the pirates who took his parents from him. In the meantime, he would start working freight like they did to pay the bills and keep the crew busy.

He named his new ship the Red Dawn. It was agile for a freighter of its size, and he had it upgraded with extra weaponry and a stronger hyperdrive, as well as stronger shields. One of his crew joked that he was turning her into a pirate ship, since most honest freighters didn’t pack so many upgrades. He laughed and just said he wanted to be able to fight pirates if they came for him.

Two years after getting the Red Dawn, his wish finally came true, and he spotted a familiar ship. They were coming after him, and he grinned. “Time to spring the trap.” Rather than trying to run, which most weaker ships would do, he turned the Red Dawn about to face the oncoming pirates and opened fire with all the turbolasers and missiles he had gotten installed. The upgraded shields were holding, while they were clearly beginning to weaken the pirate ship, and eventually, they won the battle as the pirate ship’s engines exploded.

He strapped on his blasters and nodded to his crew to arm up. “We’re gonna go see what goodies they have, first thing, once we’re in, seal off any bulkheads to the engine room. Then start combing the ship for anything valuable. Be wary, these are pirates we’re dealing with. Don’t leave any of them alive.”

His crew laughed, and one said, “I knew you were gonna go pirate, no one outfits a ship like this for just honest freight work.”

They swept through the ship, eliminating the pirates until he came to the captain of the ship. He held up a hand, and his crew formed up behind him, but understood, this was his kill to make. He shot the pirate with cold satisfaction. His parents had been avenged. So began his reputation as a pirate, but his would be an unusual reputation. Because no one on any ship he attacked was ever killed.

Taken By Storm:

Near the end of 21 ABY, Jaxen was on Tatooine to pick up cargo for another smuggling run. However, his plans were about to change. A cloaked woman approached and very persuasively convinced him to ditch his cargo and take her on as a passenger.

The woman identified herself as Rasilvenaira Stormraven, an assassin. And explained that she was fleeing a Trandoshan bounty hunter after possibly killing one of his kin. When the bounty hunter caught up with them, the firepower of the Red Dawn was enough to finish him off. Rasilvenaira decided to travel with him for a while. This would lead to a year-long affair between the two.

Then one day, Rasilvenaira left without saying anything to him. He was heartbroken and never gave up hope of finding her again.

The Search:

Jaxyn eventually gave up piracy and returned to more legitimate work. His crew shrank to only two who stayed loyal to him. He didn’t mind that; some were looking for more adventure. He was getting older, and so was his ship. He didn’t want to end up in a fight he couldn’t win. Still, his search continued for twenty years. He came close to finding Rasilvenaira many times, missing her by hours, sometimes mere minutes. But he was persistent and felt certain his luck would turn someday.

His day finally came when he found Rasilvenaira on Nar Shaddaa. They reunited, and she apologized for leaving and for avoiding him for so long. They decided to start over fresh, and to that end, Jaxyn sold the Red Dawn and went with Rasilvenaira on her ship, the Caliburnus. They traveled back to Rasilvenaira’s home on Seraph, and she explained her position within the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, where she was Quaestor of her House Caliburnus, for which her ship was named.

Present Day:

He agreed that he would join the Brotherhood so he could officially help her out. Since he was not a Force-user, he chose the path of the Mercenary. He moved in with Rasilvenaira at her home to help around the Menagerie, and to share her burdens as a companion should. He’s been quickly working his way through the ranks of the Brotherhood.
