Solas Night Thorn is a Sarkhai Sith Neophyte, Sworn to House Mortis of Clan Tarentum. Solas is a special member of the Brotherhood, as he is only the second member of the Sarkhai race to be force sensitive.

Pre-Brotherhood Years

Childhood

2 BBY - 12 ABY

Solas was born on August 12, 2 BBY, on his forested, Mid-Rim, home-world of Sarkhai.

He was the first born son of the Sarkhai Imperial Ambassador. This meant that Solas was under a microscope from birth. He was not, however, an only child for very long. On March 26, 0 BBY, Solas' younger sister, Shilley Veene Thorn was born. The birth of his sister took the focus off of Solas for a few years, at least until he turned 6. This is the age that all aristocratic sons begin their military training.

Military Training

Sarkhai military training is very similar to the ancient human civilization Sparta. The training is brutal, relentless, and most importantly full contact. It was not a pleasant time for Solas, while he still lived in his family quarters in the Imperial Palace, he was not home all that often. He would wake long before sunrise and would have left the quarters before any members of his family would awake. He would train with the other sons of members of court. They would train in all forms of hand-to-hand and armed combat. They also trained in military studies, such as; map reading, route charting, military strategy, and combat theory. They would train in combat for 4 hours after sunrise. Following a sparse tasteless breakfast, they would attend class for 9 hours, with a short 15 minute lunch in the middle of the day. Following classes, they would resume their physical training. This would continue late into the night, ending at the time that the cadets would be required to go home and almost immediately go to sleep, that is if they wanted to get a healthy amount of sleep. Solas was capable of living this life, without it affecting his relationship with his family, thanks to the fact that only a few weeks after he began his training, on September 8, 11 BBY, his youngest sister, Katherine Arrin Thorn, was born. So his family was consumed with the new baby, allowing Solas to go about his now militaristic lifestyle without much of a problem. This would become Solas' life for the next 8 years.

Force Awakening

Solas received only one major break per year. In the year 6 ABY, Solas chose to take his break when his father was traveling off-world. He would accompany his father and sister Shilley, on a 4 day long trip to the galactic core world of Coruscant. This would become the longest time Solas would spend with his father and sister for the rest of his childhood.

On the final day of the trip, Solas and Shilley were waiting outside the offices of the Twi'lek Ambassador. While waiting for their father, a man tried to mug the children. When they had nothing to give the man, he became angry, and he swung a knife at 6 year old Shilley. In a subconscious reaction to the attack, Solas lashed out with the Force for the first time. His uncontrolled attack sent the man's arm, and subsequently the knife, wildly off course, causing the knife to slash Solas' right forearm from the elbow all the way down to his hand. This would cause Solas to lash out again with the Force again, this time he launched the man into the opposite wall knocking him unconscious. Solas would collapse shortly after, fortunately their father would exit the offices not long after. Seeing the remains of what happened their father would rush Solas and Shilley to a med bay and as soon as they were fit to travel, they were all rushed back to Sarkhai.

After he healed, Solas finally was able to sit down and talk to his father about what had happened. After he told the story, Solas expected to be given training in how to contain and use his new force powers. To his surprise he was told that there has only been one other member of the Sarkhai race to have been force sensitive. His father actually told him to hide his abilities and try to not use them if he could. Shortly after Solas would return to his life as normal, with the added fact of he had to hide that he was the first Force sensitive Sarkhai in over three and a half millennia.

Fall of Sarkhai

Following the events on Coruscant, Solas would return to his normal life, and it would proceed without incident for the next 6 years. He even managed to make two really close friends; Narkan Trill Dorme` and Verac Xir` Normec, They grew close enough that Solas would share his greatest secret with them, so now aside from his father, Narkan and Verac knew that Solas was Force sensitive. So Solas had managed to begin living a normal life.

This fantasy was shattered on June 24, 12 ABY, when a group of Sarkhai radicals, lead by Solas' old military school commander; Neepra Vallas Corano, attacked the Imperial Palace in a coup d'etat. It is now believed that they were helped into the palace. Someone opened the main gates, that someone is believed to have been Solas' friend Verac Normec. Now while Solas and his entire family were in the palace, they were separated by great distances. Solas was in the north yard of the palace training as he did everyday, his mother and sisters were home in the family quarters, and his father was in the council chambers. This unfortunately meant that his father was at the epicenter of the fighting when the attack started. No one was prepared for the attack, within the first hour the Radicals had taken control of the entire palace. Shortly after this at 6:17 PM, Sorban Rai Thorn was executed. Solas never even saw his father before his death. While this was happening Solas was rushing towards his home to make sure his mother and sisters were okay. But long before Solas could reach the living quarters wing, a large explosion was detonated, engulfing the entire wing in a massive fireball. Solas' mother and sisters died in the blast.

Shortly after this, while he was trying to figure out what he should do, Solas received a transmission from Narkan. In the message Solas learned of the coup and his father's execution. However, before Narkan could tell him anymore, Solas watched as one of his closest friends was gunned down by Radical insurgents. As Narkan dropped the com link, Solas got a clear image of the man that had just shot and killed Narkan, it was Verac. So in a matter of 5 minutes, Solas had lost everything; his mother, father, sisters, and one of his bestfriends were murdered, and his only other friend betrayed him. Solas would proceed to flee the palace grounds and spend the next three weeks hiding out in the nearby mountains. After some time Solas figured that it would be safe to make his move and leave.

Escape from Sarkhai into Exile

After three weeks of hiding out in the mountains, Solas would sneak back onto the palace grounds. After using all the military training received over the past 8 years, to steal a speeder and enough supplies to reach the nearest spaceport. After selling the speeder, he would charter passage on a refugee freighter to the outer-rim. Thus ended the peaceful days of Solas' childhood. Now while his training as a child was a dark time in his life, the next decade would make those years seem like a great time.

Adolescence/Exile

12 ABY - 22 ABY

Following his flight from Sarkhai, Solas began living in the outer-rim. Planet hoping doing odd little jobs, he was doing his best to stay out of sight. He never ventured far enough into the interior to be recognized. It would be during this time, that Solas would begin to wear dark red war paint. There are many reasons that he changed this. Chief among them was safety. Only Sarkhai elite wore blue war paint, so with word spreading of the coup on Sarkhai, bounty hunters looking to make a quick buck, began taking out any Sarkhai with blue paint in hopes it was someone important. So to disappear, Solas began using the dark red of the Old Sarkhai Imperials. Not many remember the old empire, so most just thought he was just a common Sarkhai. After 6 years of planet hopping, to avoid the usurpers, Solas would settle on the far outer-rim planet of Troiken.

It would be on Troiken, that Solas would come into prominence as an assassin. Famed for his abilities. He believed that he had finally outrun his past. He could not have been more wrong. It would be on a mission on March 4, 22 ABY, that Solas' past would finally catch up to him. Another assassin, hired by the Radicals to kill Solas, had been searching for him for the past decade. The assassin finally caught up to him on Troiken. While Solas was attempting to kill a corrupt banking leader. Right before Solas was going to administer the killing blow, he would be attacked by the rival assassin. Solas survived the attack but his cover was exposed. He was forced to flee Troiken. However, before he could do this, his Force connection, and anger, lead to the Brotherhood to seek him out and guide him to the Shadow Academy. So without their knowing, the members of the Brotherhood had saved Solas' life. Finally after a decade of chaos and disorder, Solas had finally found the militaristic order and lifestyle that he had grown up knowing.

The Dark Jedi Brotherhood

Early Years

22 ABY - 25 ABY

Solas' first three years in the Brotherhood, began the same as every other member. He would spend those years at the Shadow Academy.

Late in the year 25 ABY, Solas' master began administering the Test of Lore. Solas answered the first question with ease. His second question was initially met with a lapse in memory, but he quickly remebered the answer. He answered the remaining questions without problem. Having passed the Test of Lore, Solas was placed in House Tarentum. He had only a few minutes to gather his few belongings and say his goodbyes. Before he knew it he was onboard a shuttle, hurtling thru hyperspace towards Yridia II, home of Castle Tarentum.

As a new apprentice, Solas really didn't get much help when he first arrived, save for the house Rollmaster Kalmah Sidhe. Shortly before Solas landed on Yridia II, he was informed by the Brotherhood Master at Arms, that he would do well to contact a member of his house if they did not contact him first. Solas, always the ambitious one, didn't wait for his superiors to contact him. Before he landed, Solas send a message to Kalmah Sidhe. Doing this Kalmah responded to Solas' message and would meet Solas upon his arrival. This display of ambition and initiative, would earn Solas a very early promotion from Apprentice to Novice.

• It would be in 25 ABY, that Solas' Sarkhai blood would show itself. As with all Sarkhai, around his early to mid 20's, he would stop showing the physical signs of aging. And he still hasn't, Solas turned 41 this August, he still won't begin showing signs of againg for another 20 years.

Studies Era

26 ABY - 35 ABY

The following decade of Solas' time in the Brotherhood, was completely uneventful. Solas was a very quiet person, prefering to keep to himself. He would only interact with others when he had too. Most of the time Solas could be found at the Shadow Academy, either in a lecture, in the library deep in a book, or in the meditation halls. If he wasn't in the Academy, he would be training his body. This was just a natural part of Solas' life, it had been since he was six.

He would often scare/surprise the other people at the gym. Now while he was in the 105 kg range, he is tall. This meant that he wasn't exactly a big guy. But thanks to his training, his small body was all muscle. This allowed him to lift and move around weight that some of the bigger guys couldn't.

The few times Solas would interact with the other members of his house, would be on missions off-world.

Off-World Missions

Nam Chorios Escort (27 ABY)

Solas' first off-world mission would be to join a group of House Tarentum members on an escort mission to the outer-rim world of Nam Chorios. The mission was successful, a near perfect job save for one blemish. Towards the tail end of the mission Solas' group would be ambushed by local rebels. Now while the deck was stacked in the favor of the Brotherhood members, as they were all highly trained, force sensitive, Dark Jedi several of whom were a high enough rank to wield a true lightsaber. But despite all these things the rebels fought in a style that most of the Brothers were unfamiliar with. They fought hand-to-hand, and with close quarters blades. Now these weren't vibro blades or any advanced weapons, these were archaic metal blades and they were not well maintained. Most of the Brothers only suffered minor scratches and cuts, a few received severe injuries, two died of their wounds. One thing that set Solas apart from the rest of his team, is while they were all highly trained fighters, Solas was the only one trained in close quarters hand-to-hand combat. This meant that while the rest of his team was on the defensive and trying to hold the enemy back, Solas was taking the fight to the rebels. Having seen so much of it in his young life Solas was quite familiar with death. He succeeded in ending the life of a dozen or so of the rebel fighters. As the dust settled the Brothers found that two of their brothers were dead and several were injured. One of the brothers was bleeding out from a large cut on his leg, dangerously close to the main artery in the leg. Thankfully the team had a med kit and was able to save the brother. Another team member was not as lucky. They found him kneeling in a pool of blood, from a massive cut in his midsection, screaming as he attempted to hold his intestines in. As the team began to freak out, none of them had ever seen a wound like it, Solas stepped forward and comforted the man. As the man calmed down Solas made the only choice he could. They did not have the equipment to save the man, they were too far in the wild. So Solas would move behind the man, comforting him all the way, and in one swift movement snapped the man's neck. Initially the other members of his team turned on Solas for killing one of their brothers. They were eventually persuaded to allow Solas to live after he explained that he had seen wounds like that before, and unless they had a full med kit or med droid, the man would have died in agony in transport to the ship.

• This would be the first of many reasons that Solas' teammates would always trust in Solas' judgement.

Eriadu Infiltration (29 ABY)

Late in the year 29 ABY, Solas would be selected for a mission on the outer-rim trade center of Eriadu. Solas was part of team that were to infiltrate the Governors Palace in Eriadu City. The Brotherhood had intercepted a message detailing plans of the Jedi order to attempt to strengthen Eriadu place in the New Republic.

Trivia

• Solas is only the second Sarkhai in history to be Force sensitive. The first being Nadia Grell.
• Now while he appears to be in his early 20's, Solas is, in fact, in his early 40's. Sarkhai live far longer than normal humans. And age in a interesting way; they age normally up until the early to mid 20's, then most won't begin to show signs of aging until their 60's.
• Members of the Sarkhai Elite traditionally wear blue war paint, in simple designs. This is how Solas wore his, up until his exile from Sarkhai. It was then that he began wearing dark red war paint, this allowed him to stay true to his heritage, while still remaining hidden from the usurpers. However even after he became a member of the Brotherhood, Solas continued to wear red war paint. Also as he grew, Solas' paint would continue to grow in intricacy and complexity of design until the death of his wife. After that he reverted back to a very simplistic design, appearing around his eyes and on his cheeks.
