The first encounter between the Unchained and the Brotherhood took place in 38 ABY, when Clan Taldryan's primary fuel-production facility in the Caelus System was destroyed by a renegade Victory-class Star Destroyer. Upon investigating that incident (including the Force-using Taldryanites' failure to foresee the attack), Taldryan's members discovered a small group of Unchained researchers had infiltrated the Elysia Observatory, searching for Force artifacts and a datastore left behind by Emperor Palpatine in the days of the Galactic Civil War. This later escalated into a full-scale invasion by an Unchained task force commanded by Lady Valera Scoryx. Scoryx offered both the Taldryanites and the unaffiliated Caelan citizens the opportunity to join the fledgling Sith Empire that the Unchained intended to create. When Taldryan refused, the Unchained attacked both the Taldryan Citadel and the Clan's new headquarters on Ostara.

At approximately the same time as the Caelus invasion, several Carrack cruisers (initially believed to be Collective forces) were spotted in the Orian System. The incursion was ordered by Lord Rowik Flaq (see below), apparently prompted by Consul Bentre Stahoes' possession of a Force artifact that Flaq desired. The initial trespass into Sadowan space was followed shortly by a full-scale invasion of Clan Naga Sadow's home system by Flaq's task force. They were later joined by Valera Scoryx's forces—the same task force which had just attacked Taldryan space—using data recovered from the Elysia Observatory. Not wanting the Unchained attack to be perceived as a Taldryanite proxy attack against the Sadowans, Consul Seraine "Erinyes" Taldrya Ténama ordered Taldryanite members and military forces to deploy to the Orian System to help defend against the Unchained invasion.

The Unchained were a cult led by cabal of Sith Lords, who were associated with the Sith Eternal and Final Order prior to the Battle of Exegol. The leaders of the Unchained were intended to create a Sith Empire based on Freedon Nadd’s rulership of Onderon in the 4th millennium BBY, but believed that Palpatine’s adherence to Darth Bane’s Rule of Two ultimately weakened his ability to maintain power. Instead, the Unchained sought to both expand their temporal power base by subjugating star systems and recruiting fellow Force-users to their cause, offering them a choice between joining the Unchained or being destroyed. Although the Unchained intended to reconquer the galaxy in the name of the Sith, they avoided grand, Palpatine-style gestures in favour of a more methodical approach.

History

The Unchained were formed following the deaths of Supreme Leader Snoke and Kylo Ren in 35 ABY. Admiral Grozzol, a senior officer in the First Order military, was approached by a Twi’lek Force-user who claimed to be an associate of Snoke’s. With the First Order rapidly splintering into remnant factions, Grozzol agreed to work with the mysterious Sith, placing the forces under his command at her disposal.

The Unchained and the Brotherhood

The first encounter between the Unchained and the Brotherhood took place in 38 ABY, when Clan Taldryan's primary fuel-production facility in the Caelus System was destroyed by a renegade Victory-class Star Destroyer. Upon investigating that incident (including the Force-using Taldryanites' failure to foresee the attack), Taldryan's members discovered that a small group of Unchained researchers had infiltrated the Elysia Observatory, searching for Force artifacts and a datastore left behind by Emperor Palpatine in the days of the Galactic Civil War.

Leadership

Sith Lady Sazita Krea (Twi'lek Female, Elder)

A Sith Sorcerer and the most politically-minded of the group; essentially their equivalent of Palpatine. Responsible for concealing the Unchained's Force presence from Clan Taldryan during their initial incursion into the Caelus System. Megalomaniac, but favours letting people underestimate her as a means of influencing them.

Sith Lady Valera Scoryx (Human Female, Elder)

A Sith Defender and the most military-minded of the leading triumvirate. Brilliant tactician and glory-seeker. Something of a beastmaster, who's constantly accompanied by a tuk'ata named Axeo.

Sith Lord Rowik Flaq (Human Male, Elder)

A Sith Techweaver concerned primarily with pillaging Force artifacts from any Dark Jedi sect that the Unchained convert or destroy, Lord Flaq has no interest in the cult's political or military ambitions.
