Ranks, organization, and operational function of Clan Taldryan's military forces.

Taldryan War Council

The Consul will, from time to time, call a meeting of the War Council. This group consists of the Consul, Proconsul, Quaestors, senior non-Jedi military officers, and any other advisors the Consul chooses to invite. In peacetime the Council sets strategic priorities for the Clan, and in wartime it guides the progress of the Clan's forces in each theater of war.

Jedi/Military Relationship

Clan Taldryan's military functions completely independent of Dark Jedi administration or leadership, with the sole exception of the Consul. While initially designed and run by the Clan summit, the military has grown into its own, with senior ranking officers guiding it. However, this independent structure leads to frequent misunderstandings between the Dark Jedi of Clan Taldryan, and the career officers of the military. This Jedi/Military relationship now has an official explanation:

Guidelines

  • The Consul is the commander-in-chief and retains overall command
  • The Proconsul derives second-in-command authority from his position as Consul's assistant, and his orders can be superseded by the Consul
  • The Quaestor's have overall command of the garrisons stationed on their home planets, as long as those garrisons remain at home. If deployed, they are under the Consul's direction and the ranking military officer's command.
  • All other Dark Jedi have no official command position unless expressly granted by the Consul, and cannot supersede the orders of military officers to their troops.
  • The Consul, Proconsul, and Quaestors retain command of all Dark Jedi at all times, even if they are assigned to military units

While the Consul, Proconsul, and Quaestors retain overall command of troops, only the Consul is expected to routinely give orders. Most military decisions should be left to the ranking non-Jedi military commander on scene.

In Battle

The majority of conflicts the Clan enters are small in scale, and the career officers of the Clan military have the experience and manpower to handle them effectively. On the occasions when the Clan's Dark Jedi are called out to assist in battle (Rites of Supremacy, Great Jedi Wars, other large conflicts), most will merely serve in squads beside the clan's soldiers, and fall under indirect command of its officers. That is, they should follow the instructions of the officers unless their Jedi senses call them to another task of greater importance. Those Dark Jedi who do not serve on the front lines may either be called upon to fill support positions, or may be placed in special command positions by the Consul. These command positions are generally senior to or in-tandem with high ranking non-Jedi officers. Usually they cover the entire operational theater, and ensure the goals of Clan Taldryan are met.

Command of Taldryan's navy functions in the same manner as it's ground forces. In the past, many summit members had claimed command of individual ships or small battle groups, which led to disjointed command and inefficient use of both military and Jedi resources. Now the fleet is split into various battle groups by the Consul, with each group falling under the command of a non-Jedi Admiral and a Dark Jedi appointed by the Consul. While the Dark Jedi retains official command, they work with the non-Jedi naval officers.

There are also several special configurations that can be used by the Consul to complete specific tasks. The two most common units are a mixed Special Forces Squad, and an all-Jedi squad. The mixed squad contains both non-Jedi special forces soldiers and Dark Jedi from Taldryan. The all Jedi squad is used in very important situations, or to hunt down high profile Dark Jedi targets.
