The Sea of Darkness is an expanse of ocean on Yridia II covering roughly 900,000km². The expanse is named for an area of the sea surrounding the island of Koa, a black coral reef encircling the nearly 2,000km² island. In addition to Koa, there are 171 smaller islands - 5 of which are scarcely populated, the rest are uninhabited. The Sea of Darkness is currently the domain of Maxamillian von Oberst-Tarentae, the first grant ever issued to a member of Clan Tarentum.

Ecology

The Sea of Darkness, like all coral reefs, is home to an incredible diversity of life. The oceans see bony and cartilaginous fishes; corals; echinoderms and aquatic mammals. The islands range from rainforests to deciduous to desert. Welshman has dispatched many teams to from The Mystic's Asylum to study much of the wildlife, with the Field Marshal's leave.

Oberst takes special care to ensure the Sea of Darkness is properly managed. Quotas are strictly enforced, those fishermen and aquatic farmers that exceed their quotas are heavily fined, and often lose their license to fish and harvest. Poachers and polluters are executed without trial.

Papatee

The "city" of Papatee is a collection of dwellings, warehouses and houseboats. The city provides the majority of the workers for Oberst's personal estate. Those not working the estate are employed as fishermen, divers or employed in the warehouses or offices of the warehouses. The constant flow of foodstuffs from the Sea has also necessitated minor offices set up for the export houses headquartered in Taras. From these offices, bids and orders are taken and filled with much of the food earmarked for export. That not exported is sold daily in Papatee's open air markets.
