The Rites of Combat are guidelines to be enforced throughout the Brotherhood for all major competitions and weekly MP nights to provide a sense of fair play and consistency to how we deal with combat. If you choose not to follow these rules, you will be accused of cheating as cheating is defined as violating accepted standards or rules. Cheating is dealt with by the Chamber of Justice.
The Rites of Combat are the standard gaming rules for all official Brotherhood gaming events, most notably the Gaming Nights and Tournaments. All members should familiarize themselves with the general gaming rules, as well as the rules for their platform(s) of choice. Also note that the information for reporting matches for each platform can be found on this page as well.

The goal of the Rites is to provide a sense of fair play and consistency in how multiplayer competitions are run. Violations of the Rites fall under the jurisdiction of the Justicar and the Gaming Tribune. Members that are reported as cheating in any event will be dealt with by the Chamber of Justice.

Of course, not all members who play will know these rules. New members especially will not be used to having rules enforced on them. If you encounter a person who isn’t following the rules explain it to them and point them towards the Rites of Combat. It would also be good practice for Quaestors and Aediles to point new members to the RoC when they first join a House.

Rules:
General Gaming Conduct
To be able to participate in a competition you must be in the channel that the competition is being hosted from. No hiding in clan or other channels to exclude people from getting matches. If you are not present in the channel but are reporting matches they will be discounted. The current channel for competition is #DBGaming.

To refuse a challenge you must have a good reason, which you will have to verify with the person in charge of the competition in question. If you’re playing during a competition but deny certain people matches you will be disqualified from said competition and the Chamber of Justice will have a talk with you about sportsmanship.
*To participate in any gaming event you MUST remain in the channel that the event is hosted from
**Example: #dbgaming for Gaming Nights/Tournaments and #outerrim for ICTE)
*You may play up to six matches against a single person (per day), but the per platform standard is three matches
*You cannot refuse a match against a certain member in favor of playing another for any reason
*While matches should not be dodged for any reason, demanding/harassing other members for matches will be equally punishable
*If a member is not playing or planning to play anyone when you request a match it is NOT dodging. Members can’t be expected to game at all times
*A member only has to accept matches in the platform of their choice, unless they have played other platforms against other opponents in the last six hours. If this is the case then they must agree to the game you have requested, otherwise it is their right to play only their desired game.
*If your opponent(s) are acting in an unsportsman-like way, inform the Tribune/manager of the event in private. If you feel the need to drop out of a current match because of such conduct, notify the Gaming Tribune about the matches reported

All MP matches in the DB will follow a basic "Soft Cap" ruling. We will allow 6 games maximum per person you play but normally we would like it to remain around 3 games. At times you may find that not everyone is up for 6 games, so this rule will not come into play. Feel free to play as much as you like, but only the first 6 submitted games will gain you credit. We prefer the rules to be flexible in the Brotherhood to allow everyone to enjoy there time here and have fun; not be hampered by rules and regulations.
Forfeiting Matches
General Rules of Multi-Player Combat (JO, JA)
*If your opponent has to leave a match early for “real” reasons and won’t be around on IRC afterwards, the current match being played is forfeited and the win goes to that person’s opponent
*If your opponent is disconnected from a match, allow them time to reconnect. If they do not return after a certain measure of time report that match as a forfeit win
*If you have yet to play all three matches the ones not played DO NOT count as forfeits. They can be played at some other time
*If you forfeit a losing match to your opponent and try to forfeit the non-played matches so as to move onto the next opponent, you will be disqualified from the event in question

* For Vendetta purposes, only servers that are PURE may be used to play matches. All other types of servers are restricted to "for fun" gaming only.
Jedi Knight Series
* One vs. One matches are played to five (5) points
* Team matches are played to ten (10) or more points based on how many people are participating
* CTF matches are played to five (5) or ten (10) captures, or to a specific time-limit (Example: a 30 minute match)
* For Vendetta purposes, only standard maps and settings will be played unless maps are specifically made for a Vendetta event (Example: SP Missions), or if both fighters can agree on a different map. (note: inform those organizing the Vendetta of such an event)
* Unless all parties agree to it beforehand, there will be no creating of new rules for a match. (Example: JK – "We can play No Force guns but you aren’t allowed to use the concussion rifle.")
* Lightsaber duels are to be played with 100/100 in JA and 100/25 in JO unless otherwise decided by both participants
* You may not use bacta tanks during a lightsaber duel
* You may not attack your opponent in a duel until you are both prepared (No attacking right off the start with thrusts or DFA’s)
* You may not attack a player who has fallen to the ground in a saber duel
* You may not attack another player who has the chat box active, though the player should make some effort to distance themselves from combat
* Dropping out of a match because you are losing results in an automatic win to your opponent and can result in being suspended from gaming nights
* If you and your opponent can’t decide on settings you will each get to choose one (Example: One person chooses Force the other weaponry)
* Laming will not be tolerated, this will be judged on a case by case situation. With a warning first, and then proceeding to further measures if continued. Going as far as a ban from Gaming Nights, or a Visit with the Council of Justice

Game Reporting Through the Database
Reporting Matches for the Battlefront Series
* All Battle Front 1&2, Galactic Battlegrounds and Empire at War scores should be reported as 1-0 this is for each game you play.
*Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include PINs of all participants. The winning participant(s) receive a “1” in the score box, while the losing participant(s) receive a “0”.
* All JA – JO – RC games should be reported as single matches 5-0, 5-1, and 5-3 would be a good example of three games submitted through the database. Please remember that if you submit the score as 15-5, the database will not break this up and you will be awarded for a Single game.
*Remember to report each match separately
* All XWA and XvT scores are the total kills per person not the points total.
**Example: 1-0, 0-1, 1-0 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of the three
* Winners of the total games played is the one that submits to the Database.
*After the match(es) are completed, decide on who will be the one to report. This person should report all matches played, regardless of outcome, so that none are missed or double-reported
* To submit to the database, you need to log on to the DJB.com site. Under you’re Administration page, there are a link that says “Submit Gaming Scores” and go through the normal procedures for submitting. If you do not know you’re opponents dossier or “pin” number just simply ask them.
*Remember to choose the correct Competition and Platform from the drop down lists
*If it is unknown to you, simply request your opponent’s PIN to report

General Rules of Writing
RTS Platforms
A note about fictional activities and competitions within the Dark Brotherhood: Due to the varied nature of such activities there are very few accepted standards when it comes to writing. Each competition should state its own requirements for your entry to be counted. If you can’t seem to find a list of such requirements, talk to the person running the competition directly to find out what’s going on.
Reporting for RTS Platforms and Expansions
* A page refers to one typed page of 12-point TNR or Arial font, single-spaced
*Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include PINs of all participants. The winning participant(s) receive a “1” in the score box, while the losing participant(s) receive a “0”.
* Standard minimum pages requirement is one (1) page
*Remember to report each match separately
* No plagiarizing of other works, published or otherwise
**Example: 1-0, 0-1, 1-0 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of the three
* Writing must be in English unless explicitly stated otherwise (Example: SW-text)
*After the match(es) are completed, decide on who will be the one to report. This person should report all matches played, regardless of outcome, so that none are missed or double-reported
*Remember to choose the correct Competition and Platform from the drop down lists
*If it is unknown to you, simply request your opponent’s PIN to report

Multiplayer Gaming Forfeitures: All Gaming Platforms
*Match host will be decided prior to the start of the match on IRC
*Settings will be determined by both participants prior to the start of the match
*If you wish to change settings in between matches both participants MUST agree to it

*What is forfeiting: When the opponent has or is experiencing technically difficulties or has other items that have come up, causing him to leave early in the game, without returning and making an effort to finish the match..
X-Wing Series
*What is not forfeiting: When your opponent quits because he is losing, a forfeit will probably be granted, but you may not submit the forfeit on your own. These are conduct issues that must be documented and addressed by the Event Organizer. You will most likely be awarded the forfeiture, but the event organizer needs to be the one to give it to you, since it was due to a blatant rules violation. See below.
General Rules for X-Wing Series
*Submitting/Requesting forfeiture: If you are in the middle of the game, and the other person has the issues without returning and making an effort to finish the match., you gain the win. Submit that Game only as a Forfeiture.
*Matches will be hosted by each player for a minimum of five minutes, unless agreed beforehand that one participant will host the entire match (If one host, a match is ten minutes in length)
*Kills from each host (or the entire match) are added up to determine a winner in 1v1 matches
*The starting distance between opponents should be a distance of two to three kilometers
*Craft type and shield/warhead usage should be decided prior to match start and used for both hosts
*Default ship type is TIE Interceptor
*You cannot “run” to recharge shields. This results in forfeiture
*You cannot use hyperspace
*You cannot use the “W-trick” to increase your rate of fire

*If you have agreed to more games with the person, give them time to come back later on. If you leave the event early then the subsequent non-played matches will not be considered forfeits since both parties did not return or they missed each other. If you are around for the entire event, and the other person doesn’t show back up, you are allowed to submit the rest of the games as forfeits, up to 3 games max
Reporting for X-Wing Series
*In cases of people wishing to quit the game early for unsportsmanlike like conditions, you will need to ask the event organizer and or his staff. The decision could range from allowing no forfeitures, to allowing three forfeiture matches, to a recommendation to the CoJ for misconduct.
*Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include your (and your teams) score, your (and your opponents team) score, as well as the PINs of all the participants
*Report each match separately
*Matches are reported with number of kills each participant has, NOT their point totals
**Example: 5-0, 5-2, 3-5 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of three matches

General rules of Conduct
General Rules for Republic Commando
Conduct in Gaming Nights and Other Events
In all Dark Jedi Brotherhood events, members are expected to give their best behavior. Complaints will arise from time to time, but it is important to keeping order and good sportsmanship to keep those issues out of the public channels. If you have a complaint, please send a private message or email to the Tribune of the event. The leader will work to end the issue and give out warnings to members. If the issue persists, members will be kicked from the channel or server. Continued violations will result in members involved on both sides of the issue will be banned from the event until there is a resolution to the problem. Keep in mind that both parties involved with laming, cheating, or any other activity deemed as a problem will receive the same punishment since both parties are equally guilty. If you have been attacked during a match, or had your matches interfered with, inform the Tribune for the event and the issue will be handled as soon as all possible.
*Host should be determined on IRC, and should have the better connection out of the participants
*Designate an easy to find Server Name
**Example: Gaming Night Match
*1v1 matches are played until one participant reaches five points, NOT the best out of five
*Team matches are played until one team reaches a minimum of 20 points. More participants should mean a raise in required score, but is not necessary. Decide beforehand.
*CTF matches are played either until one team has made five captures
*Map(s) selected for matches should be relative to the amount of players participating. Small for 1v1 and larger for big team matches
*You cannot request special match types once in-server. This means no limiting weapon choices. If it’s in the map played it is usable by both participants

Acting out on your own in any form will land you the same punishment as the original offender.
Reporting for Republic Commando
Laming: Laming is usually spamming the same move time after time to gain an advantage over you're opponents. It can also be abusing the Force powers in a non-force match. With laming each person has there own definition, but it boils down to how you treat the other opponent, and vice versa. Random attacks by people running by will not be tolerated and will be treated as Laming. If you are messing around on the server, please keep away from those that are involved with personal matches.
*Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include your (and your teams) score, your (and your opponents team) score, as well as the PINs of all the participants
*Report each match separately
**Example: 5-0, 5-2, 3-5 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of three matches

Cheating: Cheating is a big offense. It includes using any kind of alternate program allowing an advantage. This can be aiming bots, or Hacks. Cheating complaints will be dealt with in the strictest fashion. If you feel that you have an opponent cheating with any of these issues, bring it to the Tribune, Justicar, Grand Master, and Deputy Grand Master's attention with your reason. Please supply proof.

Punishments for infractions of the rules
RoC Infractions
We usually try to avoid being harsh or too strict. However, if you have continuously disregarded the rules you’re punishment can range from being kicked from the Server or Channel, to being banned from the Server or Channel. Furthermore if the actions continue you will receive a trip to the Justicar and his hands of justice. There decisions are final and which can lead to being banned from Gaming Nights, Sunday Invitational Tournaments, and Vendettas all together. So please remember that we try to give everyone a chance, but those that choose to not listen will be dealt with on a firm basis.
Section 8.06(k) of the Dark Covenant states that the Rites of Combat will govern all gaming conduct.  Therefore, any violations of the Rites of Combat are subject to Chamber of Justice prosecution just as any other offense. Violations will be dealt with by the Chamber in cooperation with the Gaming Tribune, to ensure quick and appropriate decisions.  If a complaint is filed, the Chamber and Tribune will investigate the charge to determine merit, and if it is found, decide on an appropriate punishment. For complaints when the Chamber is unavailable and time is a factor, the Tribune may determine and carry out suitable punishment himself (however, Tribune punishments may be appealed to the Justicar). Typical gaming punishments begin at a written warning, banning from gaming servers, banning from gaming nights, removal of gaming awards, and may progress all the way to full CoJ trial if warranted.

Revision as of 04:03, 26 September 2007

All competitions will follow the rules of the Rites of Combat unless the person(s) running the competition specifically opt to not use certain parts. Any alterations must be made clear prior to the start of any such competition and enforced throughout the entirety of the event.

RoC Infractions
