Kalmah Sidhe is a former Nightsister of Dathomir and a Krath Sorceress belonging to House Tarentum.

Character History

Pre-Brotherhood Years

Kalmah was born into the Bleak Cavern Clan of Nightsisters, a reclusive sect of indigenous Force Witches on Dathomir. The clan dwelled in extensive networks of underground caves connected by Force-carved tunnels, venturing out only to live from the land. The sisters were powerful and xenophobic, and few ever interacted with other living beings (aside from tamed Rancors and other domesticated or hunting beasts). Thus, Kalmah spent much of her life in nearly total darkness, both physically and spiritually. There was nothing but the Clan and their twisted ancestral magic.

Shadow at the Fore

The daughter of the Bleak Cavern matriarch (and thus a formidable witch in her own right), Kalmah was present when an attache of Dark Brotherhood forces attempted to recruit the primitive Nightsisters. Protective of her power and way of life, Kalmah's mother rebuked the Brotherhood scouts, forbidding them from entering the clan's domain - on pain of death.

Kalmah, who had witnessed offworlders wielding the Dark Side without the need of spells, protested the decision, insisting the clan should learn from the starbound strangers. Her mother labeled her daughters ideas as heretical, fearing the upheaval that they might bring to her regime. Branded a pagan, Kalmah was excommunicated, cast from her home into the wilderness. Most of the Clan knew little to nothing of the encounter with the alien Brotherhood mystics, and thus all naturally excepted the Matriarch's machinations as just.

All but Kalmah.

Afire with vengeance, Kalmah led the Brotherhood through the harsh terrain of Dathomir, directly to the conclave of her people. The intent was to give the clan an opportunity to decide their future for themselves; the Dark Jedi had promised her that their actions would remain conservative.

It was not to be. In the end, Kalmah's mother and all of those loyal to her would perish at the end of Brotherhood blades. Caught in the fray, Kalmah barely escaped with her life, plucked from certain death by Dark Jedi. With her dying words, Kalmah's mother cursed her as a traitor, a brand that would stick with her forever - Kinslayer.

The survivors, some reluctant to leave and others embracing a new destiny, left aboard a mysterious vessel. Pained by loss but also indebted and eager to atone, Kalmah swore herself to those who had rescued her - Tarentum.

The Prodigal Sister

Kalmah remained a recluse during her time as a Journeyman, painfully and meticulously honing her abilities. She quietly attained Knighthood, most of Tarentum largely unaware of her existence until the fanfare of her elevation spread through the House.

Some within Tarentum's membership were reluctant to digest the sudden news, not entirely convinced that Kalmah had proven her mettle. Her Journeyman peers were jealous and resentful; the Equites were suspicious, at least. It eventually surfaced that Kalmah had been brutally groomed for her career as a Dark Jedi by the House Summit, who tasked her with eliminating a certain "loose end" - the former black operations commander (turned rogue) Nichos Rhade.

Rhade, AWOL from Yridian space after the dissolution of the Reckoners, came to be considered a liability as a result of the information he had become privvy to during his service. Unable to bring him in, Tarentum's leaders were forced to eliminate Rhade. Though the details remain undisclosed, Kalmah completed the assignment to the satisfaction of her superiors. The harrowing mission was a true challenge, forcing her to adapt her particular skillset to an unfamiliar predicament. It would serve as her most telling, and also final, trial.
