Jonah Kraul is a former Imperial Officer who has allied himelf and the forces under his command with the Crimson Tide. His key position with the Tide as commander of very substantial forces makes him a threat to Clan Plagueis, which has placed a thirty-five thousand credit (35,000 cr) bounty on his head.
History
Imperial Officer
Born in 31 BBY, Kraul was steeped in the grandeur and splendor that was the newly formed Galactic Empire. He began his career as an Imperial Intelligence Officer, and rose quickly through the ranks and survived the many machinations and plots inherent in a long career in any intelligence agency, especially that of the Galactic Empire. He was ruthless and efficient, if brutal.
An example of Kraul’s methods is the incident on Coruscant during which Kraul purged the Imperial Security Bureau headquarters. In the course of operations, Kraul had discovered reliable information that a Rebel spy had infiltrated the headquarters of the Imperial Security Bureau. Rather than use a variety of reliable techniques to reveal the mole over the course of time, Kraul requisitioned a battalion of Imperial Stormtroopers and surrounded the building.
After three days of intensive interrogation, Kraul decided to begin executing officers in the ISB. After many executions, the rebel cracked and identified himself. He, and everyone he knew, were summarily executed. Kraul was hailed by Imperial Holonet Services as a hero. Though rumors sounded in the Emperor’s dissatisfaction with Kraul’s lack of subtlety, Kraul was rewarded with an assignment as commander of the very battalion he had used to subdue the ISB and assigned to the Imperial Star Destroyer Nemesis (not related to Thrawn's Nemesis, though around the same make), then under the command of General Ackar. The exploits of Kraul and his forces became legendary as the Iron Will battalion defeated all before it.
A portion of the Iron Will, Kraul’s ground soldiers, were on the Endor moon the day the Rebellion destroyed the second Death Star. General Ackar died on the exploding second Death Star over the Endor moon and many of the General’s forces died on the moon below. Kraul, his forces aboard the Nemesis and some supportig ships jumped to hyperspace and ultimately joined the assemblage of Imperial forces that would become known as the Imperial Remnant.
Imperial Remnant
Kraul grew weary of the Imperial Remnant and its endless bickering but remained loyal to it. Several years after the Battle of Endor, when the flames of war still licked at the galaxy, a meeting of Imperial Remnant leader was ambushed by the fleet of the New Republic. Almost no ships survived the New Republic’s attack. The Nemesis was damaged and its captain killed. General Kraul and naval second-in-command Commander Zeno, took command and ordered the Nemesis to retreat into hyperspace. The Nemesis, and Kraul, survived the slaughter.
Kraul withdrew his support from the Imperial Remnant and faded into obscurity. His crew, and of course his troops, remained loyal to him. Few, if any, among them saw the wisdom of continuing to be a part of the ineffective chaos that the Imperial Remnant had become.
Tide Admiral
Kraul and Zeno had dreams of rebuilding the Galactic Empire with a rightful heir to Palpatine at its head. The pair decided to seek a remote system to plan and effect their dreams. After years, Kraul decided that conflict was needed to keeps his forces battle ready. He allied himself with the Crimson Tide and was rewarded with title of Admiral of the Crimson Tide forces. The alliance with the Crimson Tide has presented Kraul with an opportunity to train his forces without much risk to him or his forces as a whole, at least so far as he can perceive.
Other
- Kraul bears the marks of a combat veteran and usually wears the armor of a Stormtrooper, albeit modified with black accent.
- He is extremely wary of all except his naval Commander Zeno. His paranoia arises at times that, while seeming completely normal to Kraul, are unpredictable to those around him. He reacts with brutal force when confronted with a situation that makes him feel threatened.
- Jonah follows his own agenda for restoration of the Empire which has undergone so many years of change in order to survive that he is extremely unpredictable, even to those who would claim him as an ally.
