"How do we define the concept of morality? Is it how many we save that makes us moral, or is it something different entirely? If so, do we save the little that are falling now or the many that will fall in time? When do we draw the line between what is right and what is wrong? Morality is indeed a fine thing, but taken to it's logical extreme it can hold us back quite far. In the end, morality is but a figment of our imagination. An attempt by the weak to justify their survival, as a way to defend themselves against those that would rise above their fellow man. Morality does not exist, there is only those who understand and those who don't."
―General Grimes

Dr. Yosif Besotsov Markov (Born Melona 7, 0 ABY), better known as Joseph Zakhaev, is a Jedi Hunter in House Marka Ragnos.

Biography

"You must never forget who you are or who you have become. There is power in such knowledge, and without it you are nothing."
―Unknown Philosopher

Early Years

Lord Hegemon Grigori Markov. Portrait painted in 1 ABY.

Joseph Zakhaev was born on Ferox, a largely unknown planet nestled deep within the Mid Rim, in 0 ABY. Moments after his birth, his mother, a wealthy and influential woman serving as a nurse in the war torn province of Lasria, died, effectively orphaning the newborn. His grandfather, bound by Miralukan tradition to retrieve his grandson, crushed all opposition when this information was brought to him, all in the hopes of acquiring his heir.

He recorded little of his lifetime prior to his adolescence, but what information has been gleaned from sources avaliable, indicates that his grandfather had a very limited influence on the boy. Even though as a public figure he required some form of a successor, he did little to raise this child, a child who had been basically dropped on his doorstep, and one he had been forced to accept as his own. Joseph spent most of his childhood years hidden away from the public eye, never seen nor heard. While his grandfather led their forces against their enemies, the young miraluka spent his time reading and writing, devising theories and ideologies, all the while resenting the social circles in which he found no acceptance.

When he was fifthteen years old, the Lord Hegemon enrolled his son in a rigorous educational system, as all Miralukan nobles are. The aim of the system was to produce physically and mentally strong males to serve as the Nation's elite. It was meant to clean out the rich and wealthy, turning them from spoiled little children into an iron generation superior the last. Discipline was strict and the males were encouraged to fight amongst themselves to determine the strongest member of the group.

However, the emire system was largely sngle-minded and the courses there were very limited, as it was meant to be followed by proper academic studies. His grandfather however, seeing as Joseph would be his successor unless otherwise incapable of being or another was chosen by the Senate, opted to enroll him in a wide variety of courses at the Monarch's College of Malakh in the capital, courses that including Medicine and Political Science. Even though he was allowed far more liberty than the rest, life there was not something he enjoyed.

Blood on the Sand

"War... it is a biological necessity of the first Order."
―Incumbent Lord Hegemon[1], 89 BBY

Quite unlike his peers, Joseph quickly proved to be the most preeminent among them, a prodigy in his own way, and in 17 ABY, he returned home a new man. He, at the urgings of his grandfather, subsequently enlisted in the Feroxin military. Unfortunately, the Third Mal-Cuttal War occurred when a shadowy Vademii Chancellor suddenly launched a surprise military incursion into the eastern border. Named after the desert required to across for a proper attack from that direction, the conflict began with a bang. Joseph, having recently completed his Rite of Transition, was at that time stationed at Camp Gagarin, a reconnaissance base in the foothills near the desert, serving as the resident Doctor, when the bombardment of Konestants caused all out chaos. They managed to blanket the area with a massive radio jamming signal, effectively cutting the city of from the outside, forcing Joseph to experience his first taste of modern combat. Unable to face the might of the Vademii warmachine in open combat, they instead chose to resort to guerrilla tactics and "dirty" methods, utilize their superior mobility and urban warfare skills to ambush and eliminate enemy troops within the cities limits.

However, though they were valiant, their attempts were futile, and after hard consideration the Commandant ordered all soldiers to retreat north to the Alaamyt Stronghold, an important military installation hidden in the mountains. Along the way they were ambushed by a large scouting party which, after much fighting, whittled down the Gagarin Unit's force down to one man: Joseph. Badly wounded in combat, he had managed to crawl away and stablize his condition, before being tracked down and taken as a prisoner of war. Instead of being brought to the main enemy force, he was dragged further south to their outpost in the Tarkian Jungle.

In the Belly of the Beast

"Our bodies are prisons for our souls. Our skin and blood, the iron bars of confinement. But, fear not. All flesh decays. Death turns all to ash. And thus, death frees every soul."
―Ioachim 2:52

Eventually, the group would reach their destination and he would be placed in the largely empty Concentration Camp found there. Though he managed to survive there for several days without problems, he would become subject to a vector-borne infectious disease caused by protozoan parasites. This was a result of his rudimentary clean-up over a week earlier, which was not good enough to defend himself against such viruses. At first it did not affect him in any manner, but it would, in time, attract the attention of his "Warden".

Kal'po Taxra, the commander at the Tarkian Outpost, noticed the strange behavior of his newest prisoner and decided to study the affects of this disease. The miraluka was then taken further into the jungle to be tested at a facility devoted to the study of the native flora, fauna, and anything else that they could get their deformed hands on.

There he would spend most of his time in a sterilized chamber or in an examination room. Neither of which were enjoyable. They fed him and clothed himand bathed him, but in the end it all came down to the examination table where he would lie, heavily sedated, and was carefully analyzed by the twisted doctors with their devices. Here he would spend the next several months, his life becoming a carefully planned routine of repitivity. No one would go looking for him. No one would try to save him. No one... until the Tarkian Incursion of 18 ABY.

More Quote

These are quotes I intend to use in the future but am unable to at the moment.

"You, the condemned. You have confessed. You admit to protecting the queen, who twists the word of our god and drowns all of us in sin. Your queen seeks immortality in life, the force of paradise. This is heresy. She leads you towards vanity, away from the voice of truth. But this is foolishness, for death... exists."
