Opened in late 27 ABY following the Battle of Antei, Dystopia is Seng Karash's newest and most popular entertainment venue, an almost featureless black glass monolith that towers over the surrounding buildings.

History

Dystopia was designed, is managed and is owned by Dystopian Leisure, headed by former Governor Malisane de Ath, publicly operating under his childhood adopted name of Jagos Var. The construction period was a surprisingly short period of several months, due to the fact that like many of the buildings in Seng Karash it is pre fabricated and was constructed elsewhere at Malisane’s request when he first became Governor. Once the foundations and basements were created the sections that make up the floors were shipped in and lowered one by one into place, carefully designed as to make the structure perfectly safe and stable. Because of this design it is possible in the future new floors may be slotted in should the need arise.

Malisane, shunning more elitist and private clubs has created a popular venue that attracts citizens and visitors from all walks of life and social background. In order not to be too varied and drive away any particular faction of thrill seeker it has clearly defined areas suited to various tastes. So far this appears to have worked, and the initial rush of popularity has so far been maintained.

Following the unfortunate falling of the Amicus Club to the invading Vong forces on Antei, Dystopia is pleased to provide a more varied and pleasant venue to its misplaced customers.

Floor Guide

Sub Basement

Restricted to staff only, this level hosts maintenance, stores and administration. It is also rumoured this level contains a private bunker which can be used in times of unrest or attack, but is restricted to perhaps twenty people.

Basement-The Hole

The lowest public area accessible, The Hole lives up to its name. Dark, gloomy, smoky, with red velvet furnishings and ornate cages with seductive twilek dancers, this gothic club is a favourite with those pleasure seekers who like life on the dark side. The combination of industrial and heavy trance music adds to the gloomy demonic atmosphere. Many visitors to the hole dress for the occasion in whatever exotic or alternative styles their imagination desires.

The DJ here is Hatusk, a Gammorean former guard with a translator circuit built into his larynx. He likes his drinks and his music hard and unending till the small hours.

Many visitors to the Hole are fascinated by the recent addition of the head of Talorthane Zemar who can be seen alternatively staring at the dancers or bobbing along to the music.

The Ground Floor

With the entrance to the street this smart functional area leads off to all other parts of the building. Beyond the foyer with cloak room and turbolifts are the Eazy Diner and the Welcome Bar. The ground floor is the only area open in daytime.

The Eazy Diner is a popular family eatery, with simple cheap meals catering to most cultures and species. Many workers stop by in the day for breakfast or dinner and parents bring their children here on days off or weekends.

The Welcome Bar is relaxed and pleasantly lit. again with reasonably cheap drinks and with comfy sofas and furnishings. A band plays relaxing music to add to the atmosphere, making this a popular daytime drink venue, or for those beginning a night out early. Both the Welcome Bar and the Eazy Diner close at nine pm and re-open at six in the morning.

The First Floor

The first floor contains several themed restaurants, the Executive, the Deep and Candlelight. There is also space on this level for other venues to be opened, but these areas are behind walls and invisible to the public.

Like its name suggests the Executive is the expensive restaurant that caters to rich visitors to the city and Dlarit Management. With its expensive furnishings and décor and its menu offering the best of cuisine from across the galaxy. A smart dress code is expected here, and reservations are usually necessary up to one or two weeks ahead, or even a month on the more popular nights.

The Deep is considered by many the superior seafood restaurant in the City, and perhaps for light years around. The motto here is that “If it swims it’s on the menu!”, and all dishes are cooked to perfection by the skilled chefs. The walls floor and ceiling of the Deep are actually reinforced glass tanks, in which varying sizes of sea life swim around the diners while they eat, and it is not uncommon for a customer to point to a creature swimming past and have it caught and served to their table within ten minutes.

Candlelight is the favourite romantic dining experience for those newly in love or celebrating that special anniversary. With its discreet private booths, the soft lighting that gives the place its name, meals to share and the piano player who will play that special song on request, in the short time since it opened Candlelight has seen many marriage proposals and the manager is considering having a plaque put up on the wall for each couple who begin their engagement there.

The Second Floor

On this floor several bars reside, among these are Midnight, Schmooze, Le Chambre and The Cool Room. Again there is space provided for more venues to open in the future.

Similar to the Candlelight on the floor below, Midnight is a relaxed romantic subdued bar with soft music and lighting, quiet corners and is popular with both lovers and as a singles venue where people come in the hope of meeting that special person. With this in mind the manager is currently experimenting with speed dating one night a week, giving the lovelorn a chance to meet a variety of potential dates for ten minutes a time. The only venue in the city to try this it is expected to be a growing success after the initial launch period.

Schmooze is the bar for the young trend setters, here amongst the modern and expensive furniture the new rich and those hoping to be come to meet people and to be seen. The dress code here is smart casual, and many see this as a chance to show off fashions and real and perceived wealth.

Le Chambre is a bedroom themed bar, with frilly curtains and large comfy drink proof beds instead of seating. Though an odd idea this is strangely popular, especially amongst groups of young female clubbers, and is a favourite stop off place of hen nights on the way to the dance areas above. The atmosphere here is light-hearted and humorous and anyone engaging in anything beyond mild petting is asked to leave.

The Cool Room is a popular chill out area for those wishing to calm down between dances, and the air conditioning is heavy here and the music quiet. With it’s oak panelling, small open fires more for atmosphere than mood, and probably false ton ton and wampa heads an attempt to give a ski lodge atmosphere has been partially achieved. Occasionally a light sandwich and canapé buffet is available here for party goers who get the munchies.

The Third Floor-Flows

Flows is the most light hearted of Dystopia’s three dance areas. Catering to more middle of the road music from current times and the last few decades, it is brightly lit with a flashing dance floor and laser shows. This is the area popular with the average clubber who just wants to have fun and especially hen/stag nights. Gestroff, the Sulustan DJ announces the songs with occasional humorous anecdotes and also hosts drinking games and karaoke on certain nights, and behind the bar offers such as “buy one get one free” and “all you can drink for five credits” pull in the young and less affluent type of pleasure seeker. There is mixed opinion about Flows, as despite its popularity many more “serious” clubbers refer to it as tacky, cheesy and other less flattering terms. However the hundreds of people who go there to dance and party every night tend to laugh this off as snobbish behaviour. As a matter of interest Gestroff is now negotiating a deal to be Dlarit's Night Out Safety Guru with advice on safe clubbing for young pleasure seekers and what to avoid.

The Fourth Floor-Alternative

The fourth floor doesn’t appear on the plan of the building, and has no button in the lift. Knowledge of the existence of this members only club is limited to a select few of the richer clientele who seek alternative pleasures, hence its name. What you do here, who you do it with, what you wear and what state you end up in afterwards is the prerogative of the customer. Safety is encouraged however, equipment provided is tested, and the entertainment staff have regular medical screening. However the management accept no responsibility for any injury or other malady gained by ignoring the few rules. Access is gained by a private concealed lift on both the ground and upper floors and only those who’s DNA is registered can enter.

The Fifth Floor-Euphoria

Euphoria is the third dance area, a more modern high tech venue with the most up to date music, strobing lights and hologramatic displays, metallic but comfortable furniture, dancers on stages around the rooms demonstrating the latest moves, and is considered to be the best club in the city for the more hardcore who look down on Flows and the Hole. The drinks prices are slightly more expensive up here, but for safety reason bottled water is handed out free to those who require it and is advised between alcoholic drinks. Medical droids are also provided for those who do not heed the advice. The DJ here is a twilek female who calls herself Vibe, an ex dancer who wears the most cutting edge fashions as a benchmark for others to follow. She is currently attempting to launch her own brand of fragrance with sponsorship from Dystopia’s owners.

Floor Six to Eight

These floors hold temporary accommodation. Not actually a hotel and only for one night, Dystopia offers accommodation for those who have either had a little too much to drink, have come to the city from the Aeotheran mines or Tarthos just for a night out, or have met someone they like and wish to get to know them better.

Accommodation ranges from a small number of luxury suites on the eighth floor, standard no frills rooms on the seventh floor containing a bed and shower facilities, to the racks of small and extremely cheap on the sixth that allow someone to crawl in and sleep and not much else. The management is tolerant with people’s needs and usually allows those staying to sleep in until twelve pm before requesting they leave in order for the accommodation to be prepared for the next night. Many bleary eyed guests make their way down to The Eazy Diner for a breakfast before making their way home.

Floor Nine-The Hangar

The small hangar ordinarily serves the private craft of Dlarit Executives and those Clan members posing as such. However on busier nights the management also offers a shuttle service from the Residential and Industrial districts every ten minutes from nine pm to six am that collects and drops off members who have paid a quarterly subscription charge for this, or a one off Entrance is gained by seamless hangar doors that slide open when a recognised craft signals them.

Floor Ten-Atmosphere

This oddly named bar is described as a unique experience and to most people certainly exceeds expectations. It stands at the summit of Dystopia and is surrounded by what appear to be reinforced glass windows with a view of the city below.

However what can be seen is an optical illusion. On Dystopia’s completion night a satellite was launched a mile up above the city and permanently orbits there. The three hundred and sixty degree images are beamed back down to the panels in the walls and ceiling of Atmosphere, giving the customer the extremely convincing and often terrifying illusion that the top floor of Dystopia is a mile from the ground. Because of this customers with vertigo are advised not to enter, and indeed not the faint hearted, for many a customer has been startled by the impression that a shuttle or fighter was narrowly missing the window when in fact it was making a pass by the satellite.

Originally the floor of Atmosphere was intended to show the view directly below giving the impression of walking on air, but following several customers passing out or being extremely sick, and criticism that it ruined the impression of being on a tall tower, the floor panels were deactivated.

Financing

Following the final construction of Dystopia, the ownership has been registered with the authorities under the newly formed Dystopian Leisure, a holdings company that hopes to expand its business to many other entertainment and leisure ventures in the future.
