Character History
Early Life
Gar Bal grew up on Coruscant, level 108, to poor immigrant parents looking for a reprieve from their indentured slavery on Duros. Upon reaching late adolescence, he quickly fell in with a gang, as most young teenagers do living in the lower levels of the city world. His skills with a blaster and bladed weapons would take time to develop, but his knack for altering and customizing weapons for performance picked up quickly when given the tools and time.
Tell That to Kanjiklub
Kanjiklub was one of Gar Bal's biggest clients and often requested personally customized weaponry for their roster. It wasn't until late 35 ABY when Kanjiklub double-crossed Gar Bal and accused him of shorting them on multiple deliveries of weapons. Gar Bal, ever prideful of his work and business ethics, knew there was no issues with the deliveries and declined to refund the criminal cartel. Kanjiklub did not take kindly to his declination and put a price on his head.
Joining Plagueis
36 ABY, Gar Bal had many dealings with the Saarask'ar of Clan Plagueis, where he delivered crate upon crate of illegally modified blasters and vibro weapons over the years. It wasn't until a deal had gone sour with Kanjiklub that made him flee the known galaxy and seek out protection from the Saarask'ar. The terms of their deal would be two-fold, the Saarask'ar would protect Gar Bal from Kanjiklub and even offer him more business contacts through Clan Plagueis, while Gar Bal modified weaponry for the Saarask'ar at no cost.
About Gar Bal
Physical Description
Gar Bal is shorter than the average Duros but heavier than most with his slightly above average muscular frame. He doesn't have a strict athletic form, instead he packs a tad more fat on while keeping a great deal of muscle. While in his workshop tinkering with weapons, a dark brown smock covered in oil stains covers a dingy light grey v cut long sleeve shirt and dark tan trousers. Whilst out on a trade, Gar Bal will wear a dark brown duster with various hidden pockets in his duster and trouser for an unidentified number of holdout blasters and small vibro blades to be hidden.
Personality
- "Never do something you're good at for free."
- ―Nin Bal
A line his father had told him very early in life had stuck with him for as long as he could remember. And when he learned that he had a knack for tinkering with weapons and improving them beyond, "legal" specifications, he always made sure he received some sort of payment, whether it was direct credits or a service. Gar Bal talks a lot of pride in his work and while in his workshop, Gar Bal is truly in his element, a true god among men. His ability to comprehend weapon components and how to increase their efficiency rivals some of the best minds in the galaxy. Because of this Gar Bal is very particular about the layout and cleanliness of his shop. He has a very aggressive and dominant personality which erupts in fits of anger when something doesn’t go as planned when he is upgrading weaponry.
Outside of his workshop, it’s almost as if Gar Bal is an entirely different person. His aura exudes a savvy confidence and calm charisma as many successful scoundrels do. Gar Bal is so sure of his ability to illegally modify weaponry for peak performance that he often downplays the seriousness of the deal at hand and attempts to charm his way through it. When that doesn’t work, his silver tongue always knows the right blunt and straight forward words to pick.
Combat
While Gar Bal did become very adept with a blaster, the Duros’ views himself as a craftsman first, salesman second and lastly as a fighter. He’s not below trading blaster fire with a prospective buyer, but that always comes as a last resort while he’s turning tail to move behind his Saarask’ar muscle.
