- "Only after great pain, do you see life as a whole."
- ―Revak Kur
Revak V. Kur is a Zabrak male from the planet Dromund Kaas. Believing it was his "destiny," he traveled to New Tython at the age of 24 and was quickly accepted into House Odan-Urr. It was there he began to study under a Hapan female, Guinevere Deschain and ascended the ranks quickly. Having grown up around warriors and sorcerers, Revak found the Sentinel Jedi path fitting as he learned to use stealth as his ally. Later he began to favor more face-to-face combat. After a long time serving on the front lines as a Guardian and with the settlement of the Jedi's new home in the Kiast System, he has stepped back to serve on more of an Ambassador capacity. He has served as Battleteam Leader of Strike-Team Ooroo and as Aedile of House Hoth.
Physical Appearance
[EDIT]
Revak has a short and stocky build. His muscles are well defined due to his physical training and well managed diet. His reddish-beige skin is covered with intricate tattoos and atop his head protrudes 13 horns. He has no head or facial hair. His eyes are mostly green with only a thin band of red at the edges due to his strong dark side influences during his yourth.
Generally, Revak favors the Blizzard robes both for their elegance and comfort, and their ability to cast a very diplomatic feel to his presence. Though refined, he still maintains a distrust for anyone he's around so over his robes he wares an Armorweave Cloak to protect him from small arms blaster fire. While often working to prevent conflict, Revak still maintains a set of Jedi Armor to satisfy is desire to resolve conflicts that require immediate action and forgoing drudging through bureaucratic processes.
Personality
Revak has seen war. He's seen death. He prefers to avoid it. Settling to the roll of an Ambassador allows him the chance to negotiate and forge alliances instead of bringing destruction. The Consular path satisfies his craving for knowledge. Allowing him to study more about the Force and politics of the region he is dispatched to. Though his years of fighting have programmed him to always be physically fit and continue to hone his skills in combat; he often uses negotiations first. When talks fail and his lightsaber is drawn, he will fight hard to bring a swift victory.
When Revak does things, he makes sure everything is done correctly, no matter how long it takes. This means there are frequent delays in his work, but it's usually done right. He is also very thorough and calculating. He doesn't do anything without first having a plan, and is constantly overheard advising others to always “think through their exits." Through preparing, studying, and analyzing, Revak creates detailed battle plans and tries to think two steps ahead of the enemy. At times, however, this can lead to him creating complicated schemes that can baffle less intelligent subordinates and when plans go awry, he often has to first backtrack those same two steps to address the present, and that hesitation can often be line between success and failure in the heat of a situation.
On a more personal level, he sees himself as a refined gentleman and will often put on a show of being haughty and arrogant to those he does not know. He only lets the mask slip to show his more laid back nature to those he trusts. To those he dislikes, he will actually become even more insufferable as taunts and quips without any regard for who or what he might be offending. He also has learned to not take jabs about his stature offensively, but to instead burn them quietly as fuel for his inner spirit. The flame that is sparked as a result is controlled by Revak's discipline of never overestimating his own abilities or those of his opponents. He has trained to fully utilize his size as an advantage when fighting larger opponents. He knows exactly how to leverage his weight to deliver the most effective takedowns or maneuvers. The effort to maintain this image can be draining at times, and when outmatched or overwhelmed, he can be susceptible to a loss of spirit. His more darker side is still calculated but more sinister. Revak seems to get his thrills from toying with his opponents. Some are content with simply striking down or injuring their opponent, but that is not enough for him. He wishes to see his enemy descend into madness or kneel before him as a blathering mess; or even better, as a fresh new servant with a muddled mind. Acting as a Puppeteer, he usually forsakes outrightly hurting and maiming his opponent and chooses mind tricks to destroy them.
History
The Brutal Couple
The story begins with Lou Kur and Aris Itoth on the battlefields of the Galaxy. Lou was a Zabrak male, born on the planet Dathomir, who served as an Imperial General and an Emperor's Hand agent during the later years of the Galactic Empire. He was a ruthless and brutal Warrior who often liked to be in the middle of a conflict instead of watching from a distance. Instead of fear, men under his command looked up to him. They had a sense of pride being assigned to his unit, as it was a prestigious position and one that almost always meant certain death.
Aris was a powerful Sorceress born on Dathomir. Born into the Nightsisters, she favored the use of either Mind Tricks or lightning to unleash brutal attacks on her enemies.
It was this brutality that drew Lou and Aris together. Upon the death of the Emperor in 4 ABY, Lou returned to Dathomir. Aris was looking for a mate and had heard of Lou's ferocity on the battlefield. A strong desire for adventure and never having been off-world, Aris left with Lou to the terrestrial world of Dromund Kaas. It was in Kaas city that they birthed and raised their first and only child, Revak Kur.
The Early Years (5 ABY – 23 ABY)
Revak had a childhood much like any other born to Sith parents. He would wake up, eat then train. From the moment he could walk, Lou began training him in the “martial combat of his people,” Teras Kasi. Any outsider would view this as simple “roughhousing” but to Lou, these moves would be an invaluable tool to Revak if he was to somehow become disarmed. However, Revak's small stature prevented him from effectively attacking but he adapted a more defensive approach to divert his father's strength and turn it against him. Lou wanted Revak to be a better tactician than he was. He would often make puzzles for Revak to solve and explained that, whether in combat or not, the importance of knowing your opponent and finding weaknesses would be the difference between victory and defeat.
As his coordination and strength improved, Lou began to introduce weapons. Lou, an accomplished duelist, starting his son out using simple sticks. Once he had established a good foundation, bladed and eventually energy weapons were introduced. Revak looked forward to the days that he and his father would run through drill after drill, conditioning both his mind and body. He often dreamed of being in battle and fighting to the death, using his superior skill, strategy and strength to win over his enemies.
Another aspect of Lou’s training was to not use the Force. As it is common to amplify your physical abilities with the Force, Lou though it better to be in top physical condition during battle and to use what Force energy you had for other things. Revak’s physical training consisted of cardiovascular conditioning and heavy weight training. Although, as ruthless and brutal was Lou had been in battle, he had a side most though rather odd; his eating habits. Lou believed that nutrition had an indirect bearing on how strong someone was with the Force.
“The better the food: the better the body. The better the body: the better the Force.”
Nutrition and strict dieting was introduced from a very early age. Each meal was carefully planned and rationed. Meals usually consisted of high quality meat and vegetables. Things like fruit, bread and cakes were to be consumed sparingly. When Revak was 12, he would go out on his own and hunt the various beasts of the planet.
Aris on the other hand worked more with the Force and the ancient teachings of the Nightsisters. She taught him from an early age how to manipulate his world. Advancing to the manipulating of others.
Revak was a quick learner when it came to using the Force. He was very capable of channeling his emotions into devastating attacks. But that was not all his mother taught him. Aris had a strong mind.
For telekinesis, Aris would draw three different boxes on the ground. Each box had a corresponding block. Revak had to pick up a block and drop place it in the box, lining it up perfectly. Revak quickly mastered the initial stages but as his skill increased, so did the difficulty. The blocks would be placed further away and eventually, with much practice, Revak could do it with his eyes closed.
The training he received on mind tricks was much more brutal. Only a small portion of his training was about how to manipulate others. Mostly she focused on how he can protect himsel. Aris would unleash horrible mind attacks on her son. She would infect his mind with bad thoughts, fear and sorrow. She would put images into his head from things that she had seen from her battles. She would even convince him that everyone he knew was dead and that he was next. The effects of this training kept him awake all night as his mind tried to organize and rationalized the images. When he did sleep, the images would terrify him, waking him up immediately. In time, his mind would begin to fight off the attacks. As his resolve developed, ,the images that once scared him he learned to drive back to their source. As his proficiency increased the more he could withstand.
Leaving Home (23 ABY)
- "... go anyplace but here."
- ―Aris Kur
Around Ravak’s 18th birthday, the tension between Loa and Aris was far too great. Lou wanted Revak to follow his path by joining the New Order and serve what was left of the Imperial military. Aris on the other-hand though Revak would be better to return to Dathomir to continue the bloodline. Much of the hostility of both his headstrong parents was taken out on him. He wanted to do neither of those things. He wanted to pursue his own destiny. Sneaking away to work for various smuggles loading and unloading loot, he saved up enough money to leave the planet and his parents behind.
Revan and Di'an (23 ABY - 26 ABY)
- "It's your life. Live it the way YOU want to. Don't let anyone tell you how to live YOUR life."
- ―Di'an
Revak eventually found himself on Dantooine with money running low. He took the measly credits from his last job and decided it was time for a drink. We entered the nearest cantina to the shipping ports. The bartender droid poured him a drink. As he sipped he cleared his mind. He often practiced "feeling" the environment to get a general sense of the atmosphere. Then something caught his attention. He felt the presence of another Force user. He made out that is was a Human female with wavy brown hair and smooth light skin. He felt her mood shift and focus. Then he felt her approach from his right side. Dropping his hand to his side, he focused enough to generate a bolt of lighting if he needed to. She sat on the bench next to him and introduced herself as Di'an, a smuggler looking for someone to accompany her on her next run. They started talking.
Ravak and Di'an would grow to because close friends. She was a traditionally trained Jedi Guardian who survived the Purge. She ran and hid far from the reaches of the Empire. Needing credits, she became a smuggler, transporting goods mainly between the Outer Rim worlds. Concealing her Force alignment kept her alive. Her Force sense enabled her to avoid the Vader's Jedi Hunters. These skills she would go on to teach Revak. She taught him the Jedi Code and although she had to break him from a lot of what his parents had drilled into his head, she found he had an insatiable love of learning the workings of the galaxy and other cultures. Later on, he would learn to pilot her YT-2000 light freighter, the "Mystic" and often do runs on his own, with little help from Di'an.
On Revak's 21st birthday, Di’an burst into the crew bay holding a decorative box. She placed the box on his lap. Revak removed the decorative paper covering the box. He opened it, revealing a Late-Republic style battle helmet. She explained that she had acquired it from an organization they ran supplies for many times, the Cuy'var Dar. In Mando meant "Those who no longer exist" and were a clan of warriors and priests. Di'an told him that if anything was to happen to her, he must seek them out on the dessert world Jakku and show them the mask. She made him promise that he would. When he questioned about the helmet, she said it was an offering from their Chief to join them. She had kept it hidden until Revak was of age and ready to take on a new challenge.
The Death of a Jedi
- "Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is."
- ―Jedi Master Yoda
It was on Kashyyyk, around 26 ABY, that his life would change forever. While Revak was refueling the Mystic, Di’an walked down to a lower platform full of food and clothing merchants to restock their rations. As she paid for the items, a loud explosion was heard overhead. A large cruiser had clipped one of the tall trees and came crashing through the thick forest canopy. Large tree branches, engulfed in flames, rained down on the landing platform. Revak was hit and knocked back by the falling debris. The impact knocked the wind out of him and sent him to the ground. He jumped to his feet. His head bled from the impact but amongst the screaming and chaos, he heard a familiar voice scream. Revak ran to the edge of the platform and looked down to see Di'an dodging falling debris. He looked up to see a large chunk of the ship heading towards the platform. He reached out with the Force and slowed the flaming twisted metal in the air. Channeling his fear, he pushed the debris safely out of the way but didn't see a large tree branch also falling. It hit the platform with enough force to tear it off of the tree that help it in place. He couldn't react in time. He felt her fear suddenly vanish. Large red-hot embers slowly drifted through the air in a sort of serene peacefulness. A stark contrast to the chaos that had just ensued. Revak collapsed as grief replaced fear.
Revak sat near the edge and leaded over. A faint orange glow quickly burned out into blackness. Time seemed to stop. Revak sat numb to all the noise and commotion around him. He placed his hand on the platform to push himself up. Knowing nothing could be done and that he had to move on, he walked to the Mystic and left the planet.
As he walked though the empty ship, he thought back to all the time they spent laughing, joking, and training together. He felt lost now. Her guidance he knew he would never receive again. He walked to her quarters and looked in. It still smelt like her. He walked to his and laid on the bed. Emotions began to rush over him. He slammed his fist against the bunk, knocking a stage box to the floor. Out rolled the helmet she had given him. He picked it up and pressed it against his forehead. Once again channeling his emotions into strength his stood up and made his way to the cockpit. He input the coordinates Di'an had given him to help him find the Cuy'var Dar. After a few moments of calculations the Mystic made the jump to hyperspace. When the engines revved down, a right red planet shined in the distance. He had made it to the world he thought had been lost forever. A planet radiating Dark Side energy. That planet was Korriban.
Cuy'val Dar
Mando for "Those who no longer exist," the Cuy'var Dar are an organization of warriors and priests who came together roughly around the beginning of the Republic. Members are often distinguished by an intricate design depicting the head of a dragon. Though one would have to look hard to see it.
This group had lived on many systems before coming to rest of the inhospitable planet of Korriban. They viewed their struggle to survive as a test of strength. Those who weren't strong, died. This benefited the group as a whole for it weeded out the week and those that they found to e undesirable to continue the bloodliines. They were scoundrels for hire. Working throughout the galaxy as mercenaries, smugglers and assassins. They're priests designed strict laws based on an ancient religion they had discovered that played off of the ancient Sith that once made the planet their home. It is here that Revak learned many of the stealth tactics he often deploys on missions.
The Shadow Warrior (26 ABY – 29 ABY)
The Dark Jedi Brotherhood (29 ABY – Present)
Family Life
Rejecting the Jedi philosophy of cutting oneself off from attachments, Revak wasn't scared to get involved in romantic entanglements. One such entanglement was to Sarina Taro, a beast wrangler and researcher who had found herself on New Tython after searching for a new and exciting adventure. Sarina had never thought about settling down. The universe was far too vast and with millions of species to study. It wasn't until walking along the Owyhyee coast that she happened upon a lone Zabrak male, fighting off a swarm of Tetocoyan sharks in a sinking hand made raft. She quickly came to his aid and pulled him to shore. The two were inseparable and learning from each other's experiences in both combat and zoology. Several months before the destruction on New Tython Sarina birthed twins, a boy Vroga and a girl Nevri. Revak and Sarina fled with their children to the current Odan-Urr homeworld to survive the destruction of New Tython. Revak was pleased to see early signs of Force manipulation in both his children and with the guide of Clan Odan-Urr, both Vroga and Nevri will become great Force wielders.
Possessions
Ships
*Alliance*
The *Alliance* is a Lambda-class T-4a Shuttle that is used to transport Revak and other diplomats to various locations throughout the Galaxy.
Flare-S Swoop Bike
Carried onboard the *Alliance* is this Flare-S Swoop bike that Revak uses as a transport when on world. He often like's to "cruise" the planet to get a feel for the environment and its people. It's high speed and maneuverability along with its front mounted dual blasters make it good for very light squishes and escaping danger.
*Mystic* (destroyed)
He had made several improvements to the ship including a newer hyperdrive, armor and shield generator, two automated laser turrets that can be controlled by his astromech droid.
Equipment
Mask of the Dragon
The mask is one of his most valuable pieces of equipment. The outer shell is composed of Cortosis shielding. The designs were all chiseled by hand. The eyes are enhanced for low light viewing as well as high light shielding and an air filtration system built into the mouth and nose of the unit. This mask is one of the Cuy'var Dar artifacts Revak still keeps with him.
Lightsabers
Ravak is proficient in two forms of lightsaber combat, Jar-Kai and Makashi. He always carries two lightsabers that he either can use together or either one on its own.
Upon being knighted, Revak constructed his first lightsaber. It closely resembled Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber,, in that it had a thin neck, round emitter and green lade.
The second lighsaber he constructed and one of the ones he currently uses, he had a it more freedom to personalize. He chose a black hilt with a vented emitter and brown leather wrapped hand-grip. It emits a red blade due to his early years training with the Dark Side.
His secondary saber has a dark grey curved hilt and black leather hand-grip. He chose the curved hilt for his proficiency in Makashi. The curved hilt allows his to strike more accurately and with more finesse than a standard hilt. It emits a green blade representing his current quest for knowledge.
Droids
"Kay"
Revak keeps a HK-series assassin droid, or “Kay,” to help him with tasks that he would have to otherwise hire a human for. In addition to normal protocol droid functions, Kay is a proficient bodyguard and is fully capable of eliminating any threat to Revak's life. He found Kay while on a mission for the Cuy'var Dar. Kay had once been programmed to kill any of the remaining members of the secretive clan but Revak, seeing the droids usefulness, disabled and later reprogrammed the droid. He wiped all of the droid's memory and directives yet kept the corrupted personality programming. This allowed the droid to maintain its somewhat sadistic and misanthropic remarks. Kay's new directives are for service to Revak only and will not respond to directions from others unless agreed upon by its owner. However, it should be noted that while in service to Revak, its assassin functions allow for independent though and learning allowing it to analyse and execute its bodyguard or combat functions with the highest percentage of success. The outer shell of the droid is the standard rust red color and yellow sensors. Kay is proficient with a variety or different weapon systems but mostly prefers to use the BlasTech EL-16HFE Blaster Rifle.
3P0
While enthralled y other cultures, Revak lacks the time to learn the various languages of the species he encounters so he maintains a TC-Series Protocol Droid that he uses as a translator and resource on various cultures. This TC model is very dry and matter-of-fact, often not understanding the minor quips Revak makes at it's expense. The nickname "3PO" mocks the TC model's lack of personality compared to the famous C-3PO protocol droid that aided the Rebellion. The joke is still not understood by the TC model.
Hobbies
Revak likes to sit and think from time to time. This allows him to center himself to focus better on tasks. He'll often take off in the *Alliance* and relax to really loud music.
