Current guidelines on submitting pieces to the Dark Voice.

I. Writers for the Dark Voice [DV]

  1. Staff Writers – People employed by the DV to cover specific stories as needed by the editorial staff of the DV.
  2. Contributing Writers – Non-DV staff who submit articles for publication in the DV. This is everyone else.
    1. One does NOT need to be a Staff Writer to make submissions to the DV, but they will be held to the same standards. See Section III.

II. Submission Formats

  1. All submissions are to be introduced in any of the following formats:
    1. Articles – must be written in a journalistic style. Examples can be found in any newspaper or newsmagazine.
    2. Essays – must be written in APA or MLA format with citations. Works cited and bibliography must be submitted as well, but will not be published. The DVStaff will make bibliographies and works cited available upon request to inquiring parties. Example of essay is <insert link here>
      1. If you need a writing guide, Rules For Writers by Diana Hacker is recommended. If you cannot or do not wish to purchase, then the Online Writing Lab [OWL] at Purdue is highly recommended. [1]
      2. APA/MLA citations must have appropriate citation. Works citation and bibliographies can include, but are not limited to West End Game and d20 Role Playing Game Supplements, Dark Side Compendium, previous editions of The Dark Voice, starwars.com and Star Wars Encyclopedia.
    3. Opinion/Editorial – See "Articles."
    4. Stories – Short stories only. This means pieces of around 5,000 – 7,500 words.
    5. Graphics – Due to the "journalistic" nature of the Dark Voice, graphical submissions will be treated like news photographs. Rendering of say, an uprising on an outpost or of a new ship being built is ok. Palpatine in a tutu is not.

III. Editing and Publishing

  1. Submission sent to DV Staff.
  2. Edit and discussion of changes by the Editor.
    1. The Editor will work with the writer to make sure that the submission is up to DV standards. Please be advised that he will be critiquing your piece – defend it if you don't agree, but do not argue for the sake of your ego. Defend your points logically.
  3. Resubmission to DV Staff.
  4. Process continues until standards are met.
  5. Publication

IV. Staff Writers

  1. Staff Writers are writers who:
    1. Sent in a portfolio for consideration which includes the following:
      1. Three pieces of fiction (does not have to be SW specific).
      2. Three non-fiction pieces (also does not have to be SW specific).
      3. Two pieces which demonstrate an ability to write in the journalistic style that the DV is published in.
