As many other Rattataki, Aegis pursued training in the martial arts as

Despite his family's misgivings, Aegis felt and heeded the call of the

education, an issue that eventually led to his failing in scholarly
pursuits. However, this did not stop him from learning the arts of
combat - such was a cultural pressure so strong that Aegis treated it
with more passion and regard than any other aspect of his existence.
It was during this time that Aegis became acquainted with another youth, known as Rilvan. Together, the two pursued instruction in the elegant art of Dulon, whose nature was in strange contrast to the aggressive nature of the Rattataki. Elegant and fluid as it was, Dulon was also deadly, each aspect popularizing the style amongst many cultures acrossed the galaxy.
Over time, Rilvan became Aegis' best friend, the pair seemingly on par with one another in prowess and skill. They excelled and competed vigorously, daydreaming of wealth and acclaim in the infamous gladiatorial arena known as The Cauldron.

"In darkness one may be ashamed of what one does, without the shame of disgrace"
―Aegis Maw, when asked of his past and purpose in the Dark Brotherhood.

Aegis Maw is a Rattataki Dark Jedi and a member of the Obelisk Order. Young and maladjusted, he relishes battle, having been born into a warrior society. While typically brooding and choleric, he does possess a softer side, any manifestation of which seems to bring him only trouble. Thus, he resigns himself to silence, concentrating on honing his arts and proficiency in the Force.

Aegis currently trains beneath the tutelage of Dark Jedi Knight Dralin Fortea.

Biography

Origins

"I am fear. I am the queen of a blood-soaked planet and an architect of genocide."
―Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress, referring to Rattatak.

Aegis Maw was born to the red crags of the arid Outer Rim planet Rattatak, it's civilizations hewn into the mountainous terrain. Virtually isolated from the rest of the galaxy for most of it's history, the Rattataki developed a violent warrior society, perpetually engaged in sequences of traditional, as well as commercial, gladiatorial combat.

From an early age, Aegis took to this example, prone to bickering with his sister and acting somewhat as a local bully. As he got older, he was even known to seek out and kill the hatchlings of Muscle Maggots, a species native to Rattatak that, when fully grown, were quite dangerous. Though he was hardly threatening, such behavior was much to the chagrin of Aegis' mother, who had a difficult time raising both he and his twin sister Marjaa all by herself.

Teenage Years

As many other Rattataki, Aegis pursued training in the martial arts as a coming of age, something his mother worried about and his sister would not hear of. More so than even most Rattataki, Aegis was simply an angry and manic young man, likely a product of his mother's reservation and the lack of a father figure to mentor the youth. Marjaa, however, was quite the opposite, close with her mother and even more apprehensive about Aegis' overzealous attitude towards conflict. She tended to scold him out of pure concern, while his mother was a mousy woman who feared upsetting her son. In some ways, Marjaa was the prominent maternal presence in Aegis life.

Despite his family's misgivings, Aegis felt and heeded the call of the warrior, venturing daily to train beneath the local Masters between his studies. Aegis cared more for the martial arts than he did his education, an issue that eventually led to his failing in scholarly pursuits. However, this did not stop him from learning the arts of combat - such was a cultural pressure so strong that Aegis treated it with more passion and regard than any other aspect of his existence.
