The Rites of Combat are the standard gaming rules for all official Brotherhood gaming events, most notably the Gaming Nights and Tournaments. All members should familiarize themselves with the general gaming rules, as well as the rules for their platform(s) of choice. Also note that the information for reporting matches for each platform can be found on this page as well.
The goal of the Rites is to provide a sense of fair play and consistency in how multiplayer competitions are run. Violations of the Rites fall under the jurisdiction of the Justicar and the Gaming Tribune. Members that are reported as cheating in any event will be dealt with by the Chamber of Justice.
Of course, not all members who play will know these rules. New members especially will not be used to having rules enforced on them. If you encounter a person who isn’t following the rules explain it to them and point them towards the Rites of Combat. It would also be good practice for Quaestors and Aediles to point new members to the RoC when they first join a House.
All competitions will follow the rules of the Rites of Combat unless the person(s) running the competition specifically opt to not use certain parts. Any alterations must be made clear prior to the start of any such competition and enforced throughout the entirety of the event.
General Gaming Conduct
*SPECIAL NOTE: For GJW9, the rule for number of matches is simply "You can play a maximum of 3 matches per opponent per day per event."
- To participate in any gaming event you MUST remain in the channel that the event is hosted from for as long as you wish to participate
- Note: #dbgaming for Gaming Nights/Tournaments and #outerrim for ICTE)
- You may play up to six matches against a single person (per day), but the per platform standard is three matches
- Note: This means that you MAY play 6 matches for one platform, but after 3 your opponent has no obligation to play another set
- You may play up to 6 team matches with the same set of people
- Note: This means, no matter what the teams are, if it's the same 4/6/8 people you can only play 6 times. If one player is substituted for another you can play another 6 matches.
- You cannot refuse a match against a certain member in favor of playing another for any reason
- While matches should not be dodged for any reason, demanding/harassing other members for matches will be equally punishable
- If a member is not playing or planning to play anyone when you request a match it is NOT dodging. Members can’t be expected to game at all times
- A member only has to accept matches in the platform of their choice, unless they have played other platforms against other opponents in the last 6 hours. If this is the case then they must agree to the game you have requested, otherwise it is their right to play only their desired game.
- If your opponent(s) are acting in an unsportsman-like way, inform the Tribune/manager of the event in private. If you feel the need to drop out of a current match because of such conduct, notify the Gaming Tribune about the matches reported
Forfeiting Matches
- If your opponent has to leave a match early for “real” reasons and won’t be around on IRC afterwards, the current match being played is forfeited and the win goes to that person’s opponent
- A real reason would be anything having to do with real life, or anything that would call a person away from their computer or IRC for an extended period of time
- If your opponent is disconnected from a match, allow them a minimum of 10 minutes to reconnect. If they do not return after that time you may report the match as a win.
- Note:10 minutes is just the minimum, if you wish to wait longer for your opponent feel free to do so
- If you have yet to play all three matches the ones not played DO NOT count as forfeits. They can be played at some other time
- If you forfeit a losing match to your opponent and try to forfeit the non-played matches so as to move onto the next opponent, you will be disqualified from the event in question
Jedi Knight Series
Reporting Matches for the Jedi Knight Series
- Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include your (and your teams) score, your (and your opponents team) score, as well as the PINs of all the participants
- Report each match separately
- Example: 5-0, 5-2, 3-5 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of three matches
- After the match(es) are completed, decide on who will be the one to report. This person should report all matches played, regardless of outcome, so that none are missed or double-reported
- Remember to choose the correct Competition and Platform from the drop down lists
- If it is unknown to you, simply request your opponent’s PIN to report
General Rules for Jedi Knight Multiplayer
- There will be no use of COGs or other hacks to enhance or alter gameplay. If you fear your opponent will try using hacks you can request to play with an Anti-Hack Patch (get d/l for one here)
- 1v1 matches are played until one participant reaches five points, NOT the best out of five
- Team matches are played until one team reaches a minimum of 20 points. More participants should mean a raise in the required score, but is not necessary. Decide beforehand.
- If settings cannot be agreed upon, the participants will each choose either Force setting or Weapons setting
- In a lightsaber match, if your opponent deactivates their lightsaber (switching to fists or bryar) then they have declared a peace and should not be attacked
- In a No Force/Guns match, both participants will be allowed a time to “load” before the match starts to ensure both players are equally equipped
- In a No Force/Guns match, you cannot pick up your opponent’s backpack, nor can you attack him until he has retrieved his pack
- In a No Force/Guns match, you cannot load up on items, ammo, shields, or weapons after dying until you’ve retrieved your backpack
- In a Guns match, activating the lightsaber declares a peace, this player should not be attacked, nor should the attack with their lightsaber

- All official DB competitions require the use of an official DB Server, an updated list of which can always be found on the Gaming Servers wiki page
- 1v1 matches are played until one participant reaches five points, NOT the best out of five
- Team matches are played until one team reaches a minimum of 20 points. More participants should mean a raise in required score, but is not necessary. Decide beforehand.
- CTF matches are played until one team has made five captures
- If settings cannot be agreed upon, the participants will each choose either Force setting or Weapons setting
- You cannot use a bacta tank at any time during a duel
- You cannot attack an opponent directly on match start
- You cannot attack a player when their chatbox is active
- You cannot attack a player who has been knocked to the ground in a duel, whether by kick or saberlock loss
- You cannot use swaying to score repeated strikes against your opponent with a single swing from your lightsaber

General Rules for Battlefront Multiplayer
- Playing through a single map constitutes one match played
- The Host determines the map choices, but can and should take requests from their opponent
- If requested, match hosting can be split between participants, each hosting a single match and the third being decided by coin flip (or other means of random choosing)

- Before the match starts, decide upon whether or not you will be playing space or ground battles, or a combination of the two
- Before the match begins, participants should decide on whether or not Heroes will be playable

- Match host will be decided prior to the start of the match on IRC
- Settings will be determined by both participants prior to the start of the match
- If you wish to change settings in between matches both participants MUST agree to it
X-Wing Series
General Rules for X-Wing Series
- Matches will be hosted by each player for a minimum of five minutes, unless agreed beforehand that one participant will host the entire match (If one host, a match is ten minutes in length)
- Kills from each host (or the entire match) are added up to determine a winner in 1v1 matches
- The starting distance between opponents should be a distance of two to three kilometers
- Craft type and shield/warhead usage should be decided prior to match start and used for both hosts
- Default ship type is TIE Interceptor
- You cannot “run” to recharge shields. This results in forfeiture
- You cannot use hyperspace
- You cannot use the “W-trick” to increase your rate of fire
Reporting for X-Wing Series
- Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include your (and your teams) score, your (and your opponents team) score, as well as the PINs of all the participants
- Report each match separately
- Matches are reported with number of kills each participant has, NOT their point totals
- Example: 5-0, 5-2, 3-5 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of three matches
- After the match(es) are completed, decide on who will be the one to report. This person should report all matches played, regardless of outcome, so that none are missed or double-reported
- Remember to choose the correct Competition and Platform from the drop down lists
- If it is unknown to you, simply request your opponent’s PIN to report
Republic Commando
General Rules for Republic Commando
- Host should be determined on IRC, and should have the better connection out of the participants
- Designate an easy to find Server Name
- Example: Gaming Night Match
- 1v1 matches are played until one participant reaches five points, NOT the best out of five
- Team matches are played until one team reaches a minimum of 20 points. More participants should mean a raise in required score, but is not necessary. Decide beforehand.
- CTF matches are played either until one team has made five captures
- Map(s) selected for matches should be relative to the amount of players participating. Small for 1v1 and larger for big team matches
- You cannot request special match types once in-server. This means no limiting weapon choices. If it’s in the map played it is usable by both participants
Reporting for Republic Commando
- Matches are reported via the DB Site Administrative option and must include your (and your teams) score, your (and your opponents team) score, as well as the PINs of all the participants
- Report each match separately
- Example: 5-0, 5-2, 3-5 means three matches played, with the reporter winning two of three matches

RoC Infractions
Section 8.06(k) of the Dark Covenant states that the Rites of Combat will govern all gaming conduct. Therefore, any violations of the Rites of Combat are subject to Chamber of Justice prosecution just as any other offense. Violations will be dealt with by the Chamber in cooperation with the Gaming Tribune, to ensure quick and appropriate decisions. If a complaint is filed, the Chamber and Tribune will investigate the charge to determine merit, and if it is found, decide on an appropriate punishment. For complaints when the Chamber is unavailable and time is a factor, the Tribune may determine and carry out suitable punishment himself (however, Tribune punishments may be appealed to the Justicar). Typical gaming punishments begin at a written warning, banning from gaming servers, banning from gaming nights, removal of gaming awards, and may progress all the way to full CoJ trial if warranted.
