Within the context of the Brotherhood, Seasons are a continuous activity pattern operated by the Council that is designed to encourage engagement and active involvement in ongoing club-wide narratives. This is not to be confused with a Vendetta, which is a competitive, high-stakes event between the independent units of the Brotherhood.
The Structure of a Season
Seasons are built upon the concept of Cycles, Plot Pledge, and Score Gates.
Cycles
A cycle consists of the following stages:
- Fiction Release: this kicks off a cycle and involves a major fictional advancement
- Competitions: there will be a combination of Low to High impact competitions throughout the cycle
- Grading: competition organizers will be grading throughout the cycle with a buffer window of 2 weeks to complete and release
- Rest: a period of rest where no cycle related competitions occur
The primary goals of the seasonal structure are to progress the clubwide plot and provide compelling DC-sponsored competitions while not interfering with the day-to-day activities of the club. This means that Clans will still be running their events without being blocked or prevented by any seasons related activities. A general example of the competition block to be expected from a cycle is as follows:
- 5 Fiction Competitions
- 5 Graphics Competitions
- 5 Gaming Competitions
- 5 Miscellaneous Competitions
- Total: 20 Competitions per Cycle
These competitions will have an emphasis on "low impact" with fewer "high impact" formats, with longer run-times afforded to the latter. They will also be themed in some way towards the ongoing narrative.
Plot Pledge
Members participating within a Season have the opportunity to make a pledge of their activity towards a desired outcome for each cycle. In this way, member participation drives the fictional developments throughout a cycle.
Each singular participation within a recognized pillar of activity within the cycle (Fiction, Graphics, Gaming) counts towards a desired outcome for a maximum of 3 potential votes. Miscellaneous competitions don't count towards an outcome.
At the same time, through the use of communication between Clans and the Council, members will find the fictional progress within their local units pushing upward into the club-wide realm and influencing future seasons.
Score Gates
Each Season will have an associated Trophy path that can be followed on a member's dossier. This path is for the entirety of the season and points towards the accumulation of the trophies can be earned within any cycle, though a minimum level of participation throughout the year is required to attain full completion of the Trophy path.
Seasonal Rewards
A variety of rewards will be paired to the trophies awarded by the scoring gates. Only one reward will be provided per Trophy earned save for bonus credits, each only being available during the duration of the associated Season with the exception of Possessions items (more info below). Not every listed item will be awarded each season.
Examples of rewards:
- Dossier Honorific
- Credits
- "Accessory" item
- "Functional" item
- Dossier Robes
- Dossier Weapons
Seasons Historical Shop
Possessions related awards will be temporarily time-locked after the completion of a Season. After six months, they will be released to the relevant storefront based on the item type. There, members can purchase additional copies of the originally awarded items. A release filter will be added for these items to allow for ease of search.
Competition Awards
As this is not a vendetta, Novae will not be awarded at the competition level. Instead, Novae will be granted at the container level and for the top placements overall in each pillar of activity.
Clan Rewards
As Seasons are not a Vendetta activity, there are no Clan rankings or the Vendetta-related Herald spoils of war. However, Clans will receive a flat credit reward per cycle based on participation levels with a bonus for achieving more than 40% participation for that cycle.
Cycle | Participation below 40% | Participation above 40% |
---|---|---|
1 | $15,000,000 | $20,000,000 |
2 | $15,000,000 | $20,000,000 |
3 | $15,000,000 | $20,000,000 |
4 | $15,000,000 | $20,000,000 |
Total | $60,000,000 | $80,000,000 |
Participation Rules
Any active member of the club can participate in any competition released under the Seasons umbrella. That includes members of the Council, so long as they are not running that particular competition. Standard participation rules apply as per relevant activity policies and the details of each competition. Additionally, there will be no Clan restrictions when it comes to any team competitions.
Expected Club Impact
Seasons are a largely Council-led effort that is designed to ensure there's always something available to do and a means for having an influence on the club at large, no matter your choice of activity stream. At the same time, the intent is to reward those who manage to get more involved while allowing engagement at all levels.
As this is a new process and meant to be a living system, it is open to change at any time between cycles. Any such changes will be communicated clearly to the membership prior to implementation and will be workshopped alongside Clan leadership.
