Shade Squadron is one of five squadrons operating from the Eye of the Abyss II, Arcona's flagship. Together with the other squadrons onboard the Star Destroyer, it forms part of First Fleet's Wing I.

Due to the fact that it flies TIE Phantom fighters, Shade Squadron is often used by the First Fleet as a recon squadron, due to the cloaking devices that are present on a TIE Phantom. This cloaking device also allows Shade Squadron to lead ambushes along with its mothership, which also sports a cloaking device.
