4th Battalion, or 4/96 was an armored field artillery battalion in the service of the Army of the Iron Throne. It was one of four (4) field artillery battalions in the 13th Starborne Division and served under I Legion, supported by Task Force 61 as part of Joint Task Force Rancor.

History

The battalion was formed in 27 ABY as part of the Dark Council's military reformation following the Battle of Antei. With countless worlds felled by the Yuuzhan Vong onslaught, the shaken galaxy offered no shortage of fighting beings whose militaries had collapsed and desperately sought survival through employment of their skills.

Organization

The 4th Battalion was organized into five batteries including a Headquarters & Headquarters Battery (HHB), overseeing battalion administration, three firing batteries and one service battery. Within each firing battery were two firing platoons and one headquarters element. Each platoon consisted of two to three sections containing a total of four Unstable Terrain Artillery Transports (UT-AT's) dependent upon the unit's strength. Each battery's headquarters element typically consisted of a number of armored command vehicles commanded by the CO, XO and supported by the First Sergeant.

Each platoon was commanded by the Platoon Leader (PL), typically a Lieutenant, and assisted by a Platoon Sergeant at the rank of Sergeant First-Class. Each section in the platoon fell under the command of a Staff Sergeant. The battery as a whole was commanded by an officer at the rank of Captain (CO) and assisted by an Executive Officer (XO) and First Sergeant (1SG).

The battalion itself was overseen by an officer typically at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel assisted by an Executive Officer and Command Sergeant Major (CSM). Battalion Headquarters & Headquarters Battery typically operated a number of light armored vehicles such as the QH-7 Chariot Light Assault Vehicle in order to provide support operations to the battalion elements.
