| Jagan was born on the planet of Onderon, just outside of Isis. He was the only child of a merchant named Decidius Roda. Money was hard for them and Decidius often had to resort to crime to pay the bills. He was little more than a common thief, a pickpocket, so the money wasn't that great but he often found items that he could sell at his shop. Jagan led a simple life off of the dual incomes, preferring the joys of nature over the possesion of new toys or wealth. He would spend his days in the Jungles of Onderon, swinging from trees and catching small animals. He did not possess a ruthless nature and saw the animals more as his friends. Jagan became extremely adept at survival techniques, he could live off the jungle and easily blend in the avoid detection.

| Soon after his 8th birthday Decidius was captured by a crime-syndicate in the underground of the city, led by Gorlath, a Devonian. Jagan was left alone for days not knowing where he father was, so decided to look for him. Upon hearing of his fathers capture Jagan decided to try and free him. He managed to infiltrate the underground base with suprising ease and found his father in a holding cell. He was badly hurt and close to death. Suddenly the base began to shudder, it appears that it was under attack. As parts of the ceiling began to fall down Decidius gave Jagan his necklace, passed down to him though the generations and told him to run before the guards came. Jagan refused to leave his father but Decidius demanded that Jagan save himself. A huge piece of the ceiling then began to fall towards them and at the last second Decidius pushed Jagan to safety down into a gaping hole in the floor. Jagan crawled from out of the the opened tunnel into the fresh air of the city, despearte to find out if his father had survived. He turned round just in time to see the whole building collapse on top of itself, the last hope for his father was lost.

| Jagan lay on the floor and looked up. His gaze met a man much taller than he, with a shining blade of blue. He was a Jedi. The Jedi helped Jagan to his feet and after hearing his story and feeling the potential in him, took him to Coruscant.
