Character History

"Our military future doesn’t lie, dead, at the hands of the Vong. It lies with our children. But first, we must pave the way with those Vong corpses."
―Slatt speaking to students at the officer’s academy

Before Dajorra

Jessica was born to a military family, the Taupin family, in the Emperor’s Hammer, trained to grow up and enter the family business. She did, and when she turned 24 became a communications officer in an EH brigade. The young officer quickly proved her worth to the fleet, and began to work her way up in the ranks.

In 22 ABY, at the age of 28, Slatt left the fleet with her new husband, Benjjai Slatt. Jessica was pregnant with her first son, who would be born late in the year 22. Benjjai was an engineer, and had been contacted by an old friend to work for the Dajorra Defense Force on a new project on Boral.

The Slatt family journeyed to the small moon, where they bought a small estate. Jessica’s son, Artemis, was born there. In 24 ABY, when he turned two, she joined the Dajorra Defense Force, returning to active military duty.

Assistant Brigade Commander

Slatt started out as an assistant brigade commander in the 20th Skirmishing Infantry Brigade, also the unit stationed at the “Project” where Benjjai worked. Here, she got back into her ambitious military-minded rhythm, recovering from the lull motherhood had forced upon her.

It took Slatt two years to work her way up to brigade commander, when Artemis was four. Benjjai had risen to chief engineer at the “Project”, and the Slatt family was thriving. However, mid 26 ABY brought great changes. The Division Commander and Assistant Division Commander both resigned simultaneously, leaving the Division Command spots up for grabs in the Dajorra Defense Force.

Surprisingly, Fleet Command did not bring in external officers, preferring to choose from the brigade commanders already stationed on Boral. Jessica ended up with the most impressive application for the position, and ended up becoming the new Division Commander.

Division Commander of the Tenth

In late 26 ABY, when Jessica Slatt had taken over the Division, her life began to come crashing down around her. Her husband, Benjjai, was killed in a terrorist attack on the “Project” by a small sect later determined to be allied with the hated Yuuzhan Vong invaders.

When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded in 27 ABY, Slatt was at the head of her Division, attempting to repel the invaders. Boral was the first to fall, however, as they were one of the least guarded bastions and most targeted. The AEF was quick to come to Boral’s aid, and Slatt took a large portion of her Division aboard. Her home was stolen from her, and she was separated from her son, Artemis.

Slatt searched for her son when the fleet had escaped the Vong clutches, but could not find him. Fear gripped her heart, had Artemis been brought aboard? The Division Commander never found Artemis, and became a bitter officer in her leadership of the tenth division.

Personality

Jessica Slatt was a very upbeat and funloving individual, her flowing love for her husband and son unparalleled. However, when the Yuuzhan Vong stole her life from her, she became bitter and submissive. In the months aboard the fleet, Slatt has worked to overcome these new limitations.
