If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that fictionally, CSP was formed from remnants of Emperor Palpatine's Royal Guard, who trained at the Scholae Palatinae. I believe that this is where we derived the name from. We stem from those who were closest to the Emperor. I may be wrong though, so don't quote me. This has bothered me for a long time. How exactly did CSP get Palpatine out of Palatinae?

The Scholae Palatinae (literally "Palatine College"), also known as Palitini, was a scholae (military training school) of an elite troop of soldiers in the Roman army created by the Emperor Constantine the Great to provide personal protection of the Emperor and his immediate family. It led to the tradition of the Paladin.
