"And when the birds were silent, and the night sky was frosted with light, I listened for the music of the stars."
―Myrddin Emrys

Born in 17 ABY, Yud is a Chiss Jedi Seer and former shepherd on the planet Sulon whose clan abandoned him on the planet Anteevy after a failed attempt to colonize its massive ice plateaus.

Character Origins

Galactic bio-historians have pinned Chiss as a strain of humanoids whose deviation from the genome of baseline humans is owed to their adaptation to a subterranean glacial environment. In 17 ABY, this proclivity toward frigid habitats guided the eclectic Chiss Clan Yud'ros to the treacherous arctic planet of Anteevy, whereupon they attempted to settle, soon discovering and accessing the abandoned Imperial refining facilities embedded in the planet's icy cliffs. For a time the materials found therein (namely phrik metal, large chambers of industrial coolant and Imperial-issue manufacturing equipment) proved valuable in inter-orbital trading posts, garnering Clan Yud'ros ample funds and ultimately momentum as a burgeoning Chiss colony. This newfound stability was quickly lost when, during routine scavenging throughout the former Imperial facility's deeper recesses, a fail safe switch was accidentally tripped by one of the members of the Yud'ros: an as-of-yet unnamed child of only four years, whose mistake tragically flooded the facility with slag-filled ice-water. While most were immediately crushed or drowned beneath the rush of scrap metal and frigid water, the youngling escaped, rescuing several of his fellow clans-people from the deluge and willing their body temperatures to stabilize via inexplicable means.

Follow the catastrophe, the unnamed youngling, who was also viewed as an outlier due to their kind temperament and physical abnormalities, was deemed irreconcilably guilty and exiled upon Anteevy as Clan Yud'ros vacated the planet for good. Utilizing the same enigmatic means as what kept their clans-people alive, the youngling managed to survive for several weeks without shelter or sustenance, meanwhile unwittingly projecting a cry of distress through the Force.

This outgoing call for rescue was detected and responded to by a member of the New Jedi Order, who reached Anteevy and took the child in for a brief period of three days, during which the youngling, having been addressed only by the name of their clan prior to their exile, permanently adopted the abbreviated moniker of Yud. Following general acquaintance with one another, during which the Force-sensitive traveler carefully studied Yud's unwitting use of the Force, the starship of Yud's rescuer was flagged and intercepted by an autonomous group of former Imperial Navy operatives. Yud was quickly and forcibly given the traveler's lightsaber as well as a volume of Jedi texts, then placed aboard an escape craft and jettisoned. The unknown Jedi traveler then hastily drew the splinter group's fire away, by which point Yud had successfully vanished, his rescuer going on to meet an uncertain destiny. Having never before known such hospitality, Yud devoted himself to fulfilling the wishes of his kind rescuer; leading a humble and isolated existence of studying the aforementioned texts as well as herding wildlife within a remote region of the planet Sulon.

Possessing an inborn link with the Living Force, only a few years passed of this life before the solitary Chiss attained considerable proficiency with what light side abilities were detailed in the volumes given to him, most eminent among them being foresight. Throughout years of honing his mettle with the Unifying Force in near-total isolation, Yud developed into a conductor for premonitions and illusory aspects of the Force, as well as the relatively rare Force vision. It was through his infallible connection to these aspects of the Force that, after twenty-one years in isolation, Yud glimpsed his future within the ranks of Clan Odan-Urr.

Having had nearly zero contact with intelligent life in his years spent on Sulon, Yud's reserved though wide-eyed demeanor and his herder's accoutrements lent him little help in his venture off-world, followed by a months-long search for the individuals he'd envisioned. It was the aid of the Force alone that ultimately drove Yud safely toward the neck of the galaxy in which Odan-Urr resided.
