Narman Losa is a Human male Doctor and a Major in the Taldryan Republic Military. He was born on Seitia Prime in 1 ABY to Alborit and Sae Losa. He spent much of the formative years of his life in his fathers medical clinic. Though always intent on following in his footsteps and pursuing a career as a doctor, Narman’s path diverged from his fathers as he got older. He enlisted in the military as a means to achieve his dream but found much more. After completing his residency and being deployed in active duty, Narman was chosen for a clandestine special operations unit tasked with discreetly eliminating high value targets. After a mission gone wrong, he grew disillusioned with his superiors and shortly after reentered the civilian world. He served as a professor at Bellorin Medical Academy until the advance of The Human League into the Seitia System drew Narman back into the fight.
Character History
Youth on Seitia Prime
Narman’s father ran a clinic for low income patients. His mother did the accounting for the clinic as well as community outreach and support. Narman spent a lot of his youngest years in the clinic with his father, first only observing, but eventually assisting with small tasks and procedures. These experiences were crucial in the development of his character. As Narman got older he spent less time in the clinic with his father and more on his own interests. Though determined still to pursue a career in medicine, his aspirations were larger than his fathers. He dreamt of attending the Bellorin Medical Academy, a feat not even his father had achieved; the school was prestigious and expensive. When Narman made his desire clear to his parents at age ten they agreed that if he maintained top marks in school, when the time came they would fund his tuition.
Narman never wavered in his determination, finishing top of his class every single year following that arrangement. Within a few years it became clear, however, his parents would not be able to fulfill their end of the deal. His father fell ill, and though he eventually recovered he never regained the strength and function from before. Soon the meager funds earned from the clinic dried up, and his mother was unable to keep it open with donations alone. Just two weeks before Narman’s graduation the clinic closed its doors for good. Narman had anticipated the closure of the clinic and knew that his parents would be unable to fund his secondary schooling. As his graduation approached he began exploring alternate methods to achieve his goals. His exceptional marks in class caught the eye of a recruiter for the military on Seitia Prime and Narman achieved a near perfect score on the aptitude test. The recruiter promised a long medical career helping those in need, so he enlisted immediately after graduation.
Military Career
Narman took quickly to the strict regimen of military life. He felt the routine was something he had always been missing, as his parents had been fairly easygoing. He also found he had a strong aptitude with a blaster rifle and really enjoyed the weapon - his family opposed owning one. Throughout his career Narman would spend a lot of time at the range He continued his excellence in class, earning his medical degree in record time. His residency fell equally as fast, and after 8 years he was now officially a doctor.
Fresh out of school and eager to make a difference, Narman was sent on his first deployment. A xenophobic terrorist leader had taken over one of their outlier military bases and had set up a series of living shields around the complex - hostages of species that he deemed “lesser”. They brought Narman in to aid in treating the hostages they were able to secure. Negotiations broke down, and seeing the end in sight, the terrorists detonated the facility, killing themselves and all the hostages in the process. Narman had now seen firsthand the destruction a twisted ideology could wreak - he made a personal vow to combat them whenever possible. A year later, while he was assisting in surgeries in a field hospital, they were overrun by enemy troops. Narman took up arms with a blaster rifle and was able to hold off the advance until reinforcements arrived. He earned a medal for his bravery and drew the eye of a general looking to put together a special operations unit. The mission was to infiltrate a pirate base and inject their leader with a chemical that would simulate a heart attack. Narman’s excellent medical proficiency as well as an above average combat skill made him a perfect choice for this task.
That was the first of several assassination missions that Narman and his unit participated in over the next few years. On his last mission there was a miscommunication and his unit went in too early - the target’s family was still with him. After eliminating him, Narman was shot twice in his back by the target's young daughter, who had hidden under a bed. The last thing he saw before losing consciousness was his squadmate taking the child down. This event greatly affected him, and shortly after returning from rehabilitation he requested a transfer out of the unit. Narman finished out the remaining 2 years at a military hospital and did not renew his contract.
Return to Civilian Life
The transition into the civilian world was jarring at first for Narman - he had spent nearly the last 20 years in the military. But routine was his ally, and though the badges and salutes might have been gone everything else remained. He took a position at a high-end facility in a private complex, treating rich patients' stomach aches and hangovers. In his off hours he would take the surplus supplies and go to the lower income neighborhoods and distribute them to those in need. When his employer threatened to have him jailed for the theft, Narman gently reminded him who had treated all his different mistresses. This carried on for about two years until he was approached by a representative from Bellorin Medical Academy with an offer to teach. Narman jumped at the opportunity.
It was a surreal experience to now be teaching at the school he had spent so much of his youth desperate to attend. Much had changed in the ensuing years, and Narman was happy to trade in ‘Captain’ and ‘Doctor’ for ‘Professor’, at least for some time. He wanted not just to teach his students, but instill a passion for philanthropy and welfare. The years that followed were some of the happiest in Narman’s life. Eventually, however, news of The Human League’s xenophobic rampage arrived at Bellorin, and an old anger began to rise inside him. Soon after, the Seitia system itself was under threat. Narman looked at Gander Denos and saw that same terrorist leader who massacred those hostages all those years ago. With renewed determination but disillusioned with the military of Seitia Prime, Narman resigned from his office at Bellorin and made for Taldryan space, intent on enlisting his skills to their cause.
Physical Description
Narman Losa is 1.8m and 185 lbs, with a slightly above average build for his height, having kept up a semblance of his military workout routine after retirement. His hair turned to salt and pepper gray years ago and he keeps it fairly short and tight, but not quite a crew cut. His handsome square face is devoid of any facial hair. Though only just into his forties, Narman’s face shows the wrinkles of a life spent in high stress situations and a variety of climates. The sunbaked tan on his face and other exposed skin hides an otherwise fair complexion. His body is mostly devoid of scars other than two small blaster wounds on his lower back.
