Rax entered the Imperial Academy at the age of 17 after having secured an appointment from his father. Rax excelled at Academy graduating 1st in his class, this allowed him to pick his posting, having decided to join Phoenix Squadron in Wing XIII on the ISD II Grey Wolf. Having served with distinction and earning the rank of Captain, Rax was invited to join the elite Avenger Squadron. After a year of service with Avenger Squadron and being promoted to Major, Rax caught the eye of General Kaener, Commander of Tau Squadron and was invited to join their hollowed ranks.
