Sath Kekel is a Neophyte in House Ektrosis of Clan Taldryan.

Character History

Childhood (0 ABY - 15 ABY)

Sath Kekel was born to Terok and Shae Kekel on Plaeree, Devaron in 0 ABY. Terok was a starship mechanic and Shae worked for the local government. Sath also had a sister, Merel, who was seven years older than him. All three of Sath's family would help raise him into the man he is today.

Sath's early years were like most sentients: full of learning new things and expanding their minds. Sath did well in most of his studies, but he excelled when it came to anything of a mechanical nature. It was almost like he could talk the machines into working. Terok just chalked it up to how much time Sath would spend in the mechanics shop/garage. Sath never thought too much about it though, he just knew what he liked.

At age thirteen Sath's sister, Merel, got married to a human, Zeek Jein, who worked for the New Republic. Zeek was an honorable man, and was the first person to teach Sath how to fly a starship. Throughout the years Zeek would become a big influence on how Sath viewed the galaxy. Zeek taught Sath about the old Empire, and the Republic. He taught him that even a lost cause, if it was just, deserved to be seen through. Sath also learned, years later, that doing the right thing isn't always so easy.

Young Adult (16 - 24 ABY)

Sath continued to live his life and learned as much as he could about technology. He was now a regular fixture at his father's garage and he loved every minute of it. If Sath wasn't helping to fix a ship we was tinkering with several different projects at once. Sath had begun to build droids as well during this time. The first two he created were just to help haul scrap around the shop but soon they become more complex. Although Sath's droids weren't quite up to Cybot Galactica standards, they still worked well enough for several people to buy them. Sath was over the moon that something he built could be of use to people, and it filled him with pride. Over the years he continued to sell his creations from his father's shop, and even made a name for himself in their community.

During Sath's twenty-first year, an especially slow time at the shop, he began working on something he had always envisioned: his own ship. Terok, Sath's father, had an old beat up shell of a Z-95 Headhunter that he couldn't sell so he let Sath work on it. It took several months and most of Sath's free time but he got it up and working once again. During the time he wasn't working on the ship Sath was working on getting his pilot's license. Soon after the ship was completed Sath was legally able to fly it as well.

The first flight of the Vigor, Sath's name of choice, went off eventfully. It flew perfectly fine for the first thirty minutes, however several alarms started to go off and Sath had to land. Unfortunately the jungles of Devaron don't lend well to clearings and the landing was more of a crash. The crash was quite bad, the Headhunter's canopy was torn off violently and caused several large pieces of shrapnel to impale Sath's left arm. Sath was in immense pain, but something inside him kept him awake long enough to activate a distress beacon.

Sath was rescued and brought to a hospital near Tikaroo, the closest city to the crash. His left arm had to be surgically removed as the damaged was far too severe. He was outfitted with a shabby mechanical replacement that didn't even have touch sensors. His family was there when he woke up after the surgery and they helped him come to terms with his loss, or so they thought. Sath, for his part, vowed two things: to make himself a better arm, and to never use a secondhand electro spanner ever again.

While Sath was recovering he made several schematics for his future arm, some he envisioned with a mutil-tool imbedded in order to make his work that much more efficient. Some were just outfitted with enough to let him feel it again. Sometimes in the middle of the night he'd wake up and feel it still there like normal and the next second be devastated when he saw the metal gleam. Overall it was a hard time for Sath and things wouldn't be the same for another year.

After the hospital stay Sath went back to his routine, working at the shop and trying to build smaller gadgets whilst getting used to the new arm. He had quite a debt to pay off, and a future purchase he couldn't wait for. So he hunkered down for a while and put all his time into the shop or trying to sell his machines. It took until he was almost twenty-three but he finally had the means to get a lifelike replacement for his arm. And at his earlier convenience he did just that.

Sath's life after that was like night and day. His family had never seen him happier; he couldn't hide the smile he had on the inside. He felt whole again. Sath got things at the garage done faster, made better contraptions, and was even better at selling them. Things were going so well he thought about another project he had wanted to work on: restoring a freighter.

Sath surveyed the junk yards on the planet and he found a couple of husks that may work. After some planning he decided that he'd love to fix up an old Allanar N3 light freighter. He bought the husk, had it transferred to the garage and began plans for the future.

Sath was going on about a normal day for him, dabbling in his repairs when his niece, Vi, began peppering him with some small nuts and bolts because she thought it was funny. Sath pretended to be mad and swatted a few away; however one Sath seemingly swatted away went much further than it would have if Sath actually hit it. Sath, perplexed, asked Vi to find some more, she was happy to keep the game going. She began pelting him again, he continued his swatting, and suddenly another two washers were flung away further than they should be, and Sath knew he never hit them. Sath asked Vi to stop and he walked over and picked up one of the washers and fiddled with it, but nothing out of the ordinary happened. He laughed to himself and threw it up in the air, focused on it as it came down, reached out with his hand, and thought stop. The washer hovered a centimeter above his hand for a second and then it dropped into it. Sath quickly dropped the washer and left the shop. He was either terrified or excited, maybe both, but he couldn't deal with it right then and there.

Sath disappeared from everywhere as he holed up in his little apartment. It took him two days to work up the courage to try the "trick" again. He picked up a small rock and he was able to hover it above his hand, not much but enough to understand what it meant. He had some ability with the Force. Sath racked his mind thinking of what he should do. He decided to show his family at least and then think about the consequences some more.

After finally getting back to his normal schedule, he got the family together and he showed them his "trick." They were mostly stunned; Zeek however had a strange look on his face. Zeek took Sath aside and suggested they go immediately to the New Republic embassy. In Zeek's mind Sath had to use his ability for them, for the good of the galaxy, in his words. Sath balked at that, he loved the life he had now and didn't want to go changing everything so quickly based off a hovering rock. There were many suggestions and options to choose from but Sath needed to make up his own mind. His mother, Shae, was the only one that told him he shouldn't do anything he didn't want to do, and that she was so happy he was blessed with this gift. Sath took his mother's advice; he wasn't going to change his entire life overnight. He would have to think this over for a long time.

Adulthood (25 ABY - 34 ABY)

Sath's discovery didn't end up changing him much at all. He played around with lifting small objects here and there, but never made much fuss about it after the initial feelings. Both Terok and Zeek pushed him to at least talk to the New Republic liaison at Montellian Serat, the capital of Devaron, but Sath had finally made up his mind: he enjoyed his life as it was and didn't want to leave. Eventually his two mentors gave up and let Sath be Sath.

In 27 ABY Terok decided to retire and left the garage to Sath. By that time much of the work was being done by droids that Sath had repaired or created. This left Sath with more time to work on the freighter. It was still an enormous job for one man to do but it was something Sath enjoyed immensely. So he worked, and for a time that was his life: fixing, tinkering, and sometimes worrying about the Force and what would come next for him.

By Sath's thirtieth year the Allanar N3, christened The Horned Advantage, was fully restored and decked out. Sath had completed several atmospheric flights and was ready to test its space worthiness. He invited the entire family, including Merel and Zeek's two children, to accompanying him. The flight went off without a hitch. It was an amazing experience for Sath; he had only been in orbit of Devaron and never left the system itself. He rarely experienced the wanderlust the males of his species felt, but as soon as he turned on the hyperdrive and saw the scene before him he was hooked. Being in space, in the ship he restored with his own two hands, changed everything for Sath. It opened up a brand new universe for him, one he hadn't even thought about until that day.

After Sath's first trip it wasn't long until his second and third. Every time he went just a little bit further. Sath about abandoned the shop for the next month or two. He found exploring the limits of his freighter was much more enjoyable than ordering droids around. During his trips he would stop in spaceports or stations, listening to the stories other captains would talk of. He learned about the trading lanes, the First Order, and even local skirmishes going on. He heard talk of pirate organizations blockading planets in the Outer Rim, cutting off good, hardworking people from supplies they desperately needed. That upset him greatly, and he wanted to help those people if he could.

Sath spoke with Zeek to see if the New Republic was doing anything about these pirates he heard about. Zeek found out what he could but it wasn't much, the New Republic didn't have an unlimited source of ships and couldn't save every planet in the galaxy. Sath decided he was going to do something about it however. Over the next few months he modified his ship and spoke to more of these spacers and found a few places where he could help.

Over the next two years Sath used his freighter to smuggle food and supplies to any community affected by this pirate blight. It wasn’t easy and more than once Sath was one turbolaser blast away from being spaced. He hadn’t felt this good since he received the good mechanical arm. He was doing something righteous with his life and that made all of danger worth it. Sath often wondered if this is the sort of thing a Jedi would have done if they were still around. He often wondered if he should have taken Zeek’s advice all those years ago and helped the New Republic. He often wondered if his small power could be expanded and be put to better use.
