Rabid Ascor is a Dathomirian Zabrak Sith.

Character History

Early Life

Born on Dathomir in 19 ABY as the first child of a Nightsister, Yuxen Ascor, and some unknown Nightbrother, who was killed after mating in accordance with the tradition of their people. Tattooed shortly after birth in jagged, black markings of his clan, Rabid was sold as an infant to Rattataki slavers by the clan matriarch, believing her coven needed more female children at the time. During his stay on Rattatak, Rabid was forced to perform in gladiatorial arenas, quickly gaining considerable popularity, owing to his exotic appearance and common stereotypes depicting Nightbrothers as brutal, aggressive warriors. Being a popular gladiator, Rabid's living conditions were better than those of average slaves, allowing him to pursue education when he was not participating in fights. For his own amusement, he was studying various literature, particularly regarding the biology of animals and sentient beings inhabiting the Galaxy, as well as the history and culture of his homeworld. Researching Dathomirian lore led him to develop an interest in arcane Force practices of the Nightsisters and eventually discover his own Force sensitivity, and he trained its basic usage under the guidance of his fellow slave, an old, Force-sensitive Defel fighter named Rhako Shareek. Rabid quickly befriended a wise alien, treating him almost like a grandfather he never had. Their friendship, however, didn't last long, as Rhako disappeared under mysterious circumstances after accidentally using the Force during a fight. Fearful of sharing his fate, Rabid decided to continue his training in secret, studying Dathomirian magic from holobooks and keeping his abilities to himself.

Fall from grace

By the time he reached adulthood, Rabid's popularity had largely faded. As a result, his treatment was getting worse, and his owners started pitting him against increasingly dangerous opponents in an attempt to prolong the public's interest in watching his fights. This went on until one day Rabid was set to fight a particularly dangerous Dowutin warrior named Brontes. Still concealing his Force abilities, Rabid fought fairly, believing lords of the arena would not let him die. But he was mistaken, as he had finally outlived his usefulness to them. Despite his superior agility, he stood no chance against a much bigger and heavier opponent. Lying on the floor, severely beaten up, Rabid finally snapped when he heard the announcer ordering his opponent to finish him. In one moment, acting on pure instinct, Rabid unleashed all his anger and fury built up over the years of abuse and shot a burst of red force lightning at Dowutin's face, killing him instantly. When he was recovering after the brawl, he was approached by yet another slave, a green-skinned Twi'lek dancer who introduced herself as Lady Voxyn- a Sith lady who infiltrated the arena in search of finding a suitable apprentice. Throughout his recovery, Voxyn kept visiting him under the guise of being an escort, while in reality she was training him in the arts of lightsaber combat and introducing him to the Sith code. Eager to learn, young Zabrak quickly adopted her ideology as his own, absorbing every bit of knowledge she shared with him.

Freedom

Eventually, Rabid fully recovered from his injuries, much to his master's delight. Both of them knew he would not live much longer had he stayed for his next fight, and so Lady Voxyn came up with a scheme to set her apprentice free. On the final night before the upcoming duel, the master-apprentice duo set their daring escape plan in motion, which served a double purpose as Rabid's first test to see him putting his master's teachings into actual use. Armed with nothing but his Force abilities, Rabid mind-tricked one of the guards to release all prisoners and animals, and then, using the subsequent chaos that ensued, he and his master ran away, killing off various other gladiators and exotic beasts on their way out, until finally they managed to find Queen Hadiya, his master's personal starship, and jump to hyperspace after a short dogfight in Ratatak's atmosphere. Finally, they were free.

Sith Apprentice

Once they reached their destination, which turned out to be Voxyn's hideout located in one of the most luxurious apartments on Coruscant's upper levels, Rabid was granted the rank of Voxyn's official Sith apprentice and received his first lightsaber. As part of his apprenticeship, he carried out various tasks for his master, mostly involving assassinations of her opponents, such as eliminating the entire leadership of the Zarmandra Cartel (a criminal family from Ryloth, whose death allowed Voxyn to take over their drug-selling operations), killing Akk Vyrack, an eager, young senator candidate who pushed for more effective laws against the production and selling of Glitteryll, and infiltrating the Citadel in order to track down and execute arrested members of Voxyn's criminal syndicate, before they could snitch on their former boss.
