Deneba Campus: Advanced Test of Wisdom

Introduction

This advanced writing course will test the writer’s ability to create and implement the elements of plot, character development, and consistent spelling and grammar. You will also practice expanding upon an initial story idea.

Requirements

  • Before taking this test, you must have submitted and passed the regular Test of Wisdom.
  • Once you have passed the test of wisdom, you must wait a bit before you can submit your advanced test of wisdom. This is done to give your character time to develop, and you to reflect upon what you’ve done. See below for time frame references.
  • Minimum of 3.5 pages (12 point font: TNR, Arial, or Courier). Should be a .doc, .txt., or .rtf. Given the length of the stories, cut and paste jobs will not be accepted.
  • You must have a complete story: a beginning, a middle, and an end. This is essential to plot.
  • Include a title. Failure to include a title will result in the loss of points on the exam.
  • Grammar and spelling are important. If you think it is needed, ask someone to proof read the story for you.
  • The story must revolve around your character in the Brotherhood and it must be connected to your Test of Wisdom.
  • DO NOT cut and paste your test of wisdom into this larger story. Also, avoid excessive space between paragraphs (in fact, you really should mark your paragraphs with indentations, and not skipping a line).
  • When done, attach the story to an e-mail and send it to the course grader and the Headmaster. Click here for a prepared e-mail.
  • Make certain that your name and dossier number (PIN) are included in the e-mail, the story, or both.

Grading

  • Plot/Overall writing: 40%
  • Character Development: 35%
  • Spelling/Grammar: 25%

Time Frame

  • In order to give your character time to develop from your regular test of wisdom to your advanced test of wisdom, you should follow these guidelines.
  • If you are below Dark Jedi Knight, you should wait until at least until you have advanced two more ranks before submitting an advanced test of wisdom.
  • If you are promoted to Dark Jedi Knight from Jedi Hunter, you may submit an advanced test of wisdom, as earning Dark Jedi Knight marks a major stage in character history.
  • If you pass a regular test of wisdom at or after you have reached Dark Jedi Knight or higher, you should speak to the course grader to determine an appropriate time to submit an advanced test of wisdom. As promotions happen less frequently at the equite ranks, asking you to wait two ranks makes less sense. Events such as Great Jedi Wars and large clan or house competitions are good examples.

Restrictions

  • Only 1 author per submission. You may not co-write a story with someone else.
  • Though there is no maximum length, please remember that someone is reading this.
  • Submissions from competitions may only be used if it builds off of your test of wisdom.
