*Dark Lord of the Sith is a single position held by the Grand Master. Sith Lord is the status held by former Grand Masters and any Deputies who get made a Darth (to my knowledge that's only happened once in history with Torquemada though), e.g. if Jac made me a Darth, I wouldn't be the Dark Lord of the Sith, I'd just be a Sith Lord, Jac would remain the Dark Lord of the Sith. For some non-DB examples, before Darth Bane there was only one Dark Lord. Darth Revan was a Dark Lord, Darth Malak was only a Sith Lord until he usurped his master, Naga Sadow was a Dark Lord, Ludo Kressh and the rest of the Sith Council were only Sith Lords, Exar Kun was a Dark Lord, Ulic was only a Sith Lord, etc. If you go in the opposite direction, Darth Krayt is the Dark Lord of the Legacy era, all the other Darths are just Sith Lords. The only time there were multiple Dark Lords was the few years Kaan was in control prior to Darth Bane, and during the Rule of Two both Sith were technically Dark Lords. The Dark Brotherhood is closest to the Sith Empire or Darth Krayt model though, so we're back to the traditional position of Dark Lord of the Sith as the "leader" position and Sith Lord as the junior one. If all the ex-Grand Masters were still Dark Lord of the Sith we'd have a leadership issue, as they'd all theoretically have claim to the Iron Throne. Wookieepedia explains the difference better, plus the Dark Side Compendium should explain it somewhere (I think the Star Chamber chapter talks about it a little). The upcoming full Codex rewrite goes into a fair bit of depth about it as well. --Xanos 15:23, 8 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

**Thinking about it, the easiest explanation is just to look down the list of Sith Lords. Like it says, bold ones have been Dark Lord of the Sith, the rest are just plain Sith Lords (that's taken straight from Wookieepedia btw, so is as accurate a list as we're gonna get). It's one of those "all Dark Lords are Sith Lords, but not all Sith Lords are Dark Lords" situations. The Dark Lord is the "boss". He's still a Sith Lord, but he's also still special because he's the boss. --Xanos 15:30, 8 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

Shouldn't the Sith Lords from the Sith History project be listed here? Several new ones came about. I'll talk to BF, see if he has a list. Sephiroth storm 20:04, 21 December 2007 (MST)
*I'm not sure if that was ever officially completed. It may have a few problems now what with new additions to the canon list and such, so would probably need some reworking at least.--Xanos 04:57, 22 December 2007 (MST)

How is this different than Dark Lord of the Sith? I think that needs to be clarified since the two terms seem interchangable... Kaine Mandaala 15:11, 7 September 2006 (Mountain Daylight Time)

The only time there were multiple Dark Lords was the few years Kaan was in control prior to Darth Bane, and during the Rule of Two both Sith were technically Dark Lords.
