Thren’s Horizon Plague

Alchemist’s Notes #9983

History:

The bio-weapon known as “Thren’s Horizon Plague,” and previously as Bogan’s Caress was first documented in 25,799 BBY. The viral-protogenic plague was first experimented on and completed by Xo’Xaan. Lady Xaan trained a select few students. Lysu Thren was her greatest success- and failure. In fact, his name was removed from any subsequent recordings. During the long journey to the stars, Xaan realized that her student had designs of his own. She exiled him and several of his supporters away from the Bogan moon on a sleeper ship with minimal supplies into an uncharted region of hyperspace.

Thren landed on the jungle hell-hole world of Drongar. He lived for many years, and created the Horizon plague. For more detailed information on Lysu Thren and the Horizon Plague, click the previous link.

His hatred of his former Master and disdain for all life led him to complete an evil Ritual that dispersed his life force as minute particles that swam unknowingly in the Dark Side of the Force.

Thren’s body and gear came to rest in the Drongar system in the Outer Rim. The old marooned and vine-encased ship had been lost to time until shortly after the Vong War. Thren’s corpse had been impregnated with the Plague cysts. It was only a matter of time until some Darksider sought out his Tomb.

Incubation:

In general, Thren’s Horizon Plague infects it’s host completely within twenty four hours. Even before complete incubation it exerts it’s effects on Force-users. In the case of high-powered users, it seems to have a very fast effect. The disease seems to cause death if untreated within 3 to 4 weeks.

Symptoms:

Symptoms may vary. There is no one set of symptoms, which makes this weapon truly insidious. They can include: raving madness, homicidal mania, hallucinations, seizures, sores, flu-like symptoms, convulsions, diarrhea, emotional fluctuations, schizophrenia, fever, chills, egomania, catatonic depression, eczema, cardiovascular stress, swollen lymph nodes, impotence, heart palpitations, and any number of others.

Unifying symptoms are a loss of Force connection, rage, immunity to pain and shock, ensuing madness, and enhancement of physical abilities before death. The disease also acts as an energy sink of sorts, depending on the victim’s power within the Force. Victims also feel an immediate need to regain their Force powers, a desperation verging on psychotic behavior. The need increases in intensity as time goes on.
