The Excidium Mission Board (EMB) is a system established by the bounty hunter Bale Andros in 37 ABY during his tenure at the head of House Excidium. It was a system created to offer his operatives regular, coherent, and freeform access to a list of available mission contracts and potential leads. This would in turn remove the need for micromanagement of the organization and provide freedom for operatives to tailor their approach according to their personal skill set.

The Goal

Disclaimer: The following is out of character information pertaining to the purpose of the EMB.

The EMB, in its current (trial) state, exists to offer constant, casual access to fun, freeform, mission-based prompts for members of House Excidium, prompts that reflect the more flexible, black ops styling of our unit. It is our philosophy that Excidium members should always have an opportunity to earn rewards and progress within the society of their choosing. Our aim is to ensure that our members never find themselves without something *fun* to tackle, should they desire so.

The mission board will (for the time being) include prompts for art, solo fiction, and team/run-on fiction as these are the type of activities favored by the modern Excidium membership. With time, we endeavor to add more variety to the EMB, including but not limited to such activities as gaming, puzzles, etc.

Once a member entry of more than 1500 words has been submitted for all available prompts of the same type (as mentioned in the paragraph above) that type will be put on a one-week cooldown, at which point a new prompt will be opened. While a minimum of 500 words is required to place, we demand additional effort from members in order to add further prompts. This system is intended to ensure that each individual member always has something to do without purposefully gaming the system.

This concept may and likely will be revised as the EMB is put through trial and duress.

The Prompts

Prompts for the EMB come with a specific format designed to reflect a mission briefing. In each prompt, members are given a basic backstory, a location, and a specific task that will form the core of their story. Members are subsequently expected to write a story featuring either their main or alternative character as they complete the task at hand.

Please note that mission success is not required and that members should feel free to write the outcome that best suits their story. Sometimes, failure is more interesting than success.

In some prompts, members may encounter the name of existing characters or locations found in the Star Wars universe. Existing locations will always contain a link to a wiki article offering further information on the subject. Characters and locations that do not offer a link have been made up for the purpose of the prompt and present a blank canvas for the writer.

The Rules

The Codes

Each mission is presented with a color code. These codes offer a general guideline as to the way an operative is expected to approach the task. These are intended as flavor, no more than a suggestion. With the exception of codes Red and Gold, they are not a requirement.

Red and Gold requirements should be acknowledged in your stories as they represent a sense of urgency or a specific goal that must be met for mission success.

  • Orange - Aggressive force recommended (Assault)
  • Black - Covert approach recommended (Stealth)
  • Blue - Exploration recommended (Reconnaissance)
  • Purple - Academics recommended (Research)
  • Green - Diplomacy recommended (Social'’')
  • Red - Rapid intervention required (Speed)
  • Gold - Extraction required (Extraction)
