This Artifact Policy covers elements of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood with regards to the fictional artifacts that a unit or member has, what requirements exist and how they are maintained. These include the conditions by which these artifacts are created and then owned by a unit or member, management during existence, and removal of artifacts. This policy is maintained by the Grand Master and Deputy Grand Master of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, in working with the Regent on the possessions elements, Voice on the fictional elements, and Wiki Tribune in the recordkeeping elements.

The goal of this policy is to create real established elements that are set in stone, which serve as a foundation for a unit’s artifact development and draw a line free of misunderstanding about what is official.

Artifact Basics

An "artifact" is a singular, incredibly rare and unique item that is specifically created by the Dark Jedi Brotherhood for the purposes of storytelling, member engagement, and fictional development. Below are requirements, all fictional details not established when an artifact is awarded are open for interpretation by the artifact's owners.

Requirements

Canon/Legends: The artifact in question must be explicitly created for the Dark Brotherhood, and not an artifact/unique item that has been used in the Star Wars canon/Legends continuities at any point prior to creation of the artifact.

Name: Every artifact must have a proper and club appropriate name.

Image: Each artifact must have a unique image attributed to that artifact only.

Description: A complete item description of the artifact including:

  • Cosmetic Appearance - its physical shape, color, and other visual attributes
  • Functions - How it is used, whether there are any special characteristics or effects
  • Restrictions - The restrictions on use of the artifact
  • Significance - Significance to the member or unit, what makes it an artifact instead of a regular item.

Approval

The Clans are each afforded three artifacts to start, of which all required details must be approved by the Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, Voice, and Regent. This is done to ensure consistency of the story and ensure that the artifact is created for direct member benefit/engagement, while not duplicating another artifact or item.

  • Additional artifacts may be granted at the discretion of the Grand Master..
  • The Dark Council will create and approve artifacts as necessary for fictional development of the club.

Recordkeeping

  • All approved artifacts, with required details as approved, will be documented and granted to individual members, clans, or the Dark Council in the possessions system using individual item prototypes and instances.
  • All approved artifacts must be documented on the Wiki of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood using the artifact template and placed into the artifact category including all the details presented during approval.
  • Fictional background and further development that does not require explicit approval will be documented on the DJB Wiki, with reasonable oversight by the Wiki Staff and Dark Council to ensure a consistent member experience.

Artifact Usage

Ownership

  • All artifacts can be owned by either a unit, an individual member, or simply exist but not owned by anyone (in which an item prototype is created, but there are no instances of the prototype granted to a unit or member).
  • Ownership details and history must be covered in the wiki documentation for an artifact.
  • Transfer of ownership between units can only occur at the request of the unit that owns them, with Grand Master or Deputy Grand Master approval.
  • Transfers of ownership between members can only occur at the request of the member that owns them, with Grand Master or Deputy Grand Master approval.
  • Ownership of an artifact owned by a unit is retained by the unit, but transfer of use of the artifact to a member is allowed, for any purpose or duration, as determined by unit leadership with Regent approval. If a member is granted use of an artifact and changes units, the item is immediately transferred back to the unit that owns the artifact. Ownership of an item is never transferred from a unit to a member or from a member to a unit.
  • Artifacts can be wagered between units, but not between members (i.e. for a multi-clan competition), with Grand Master or Deputy Grand Master approval. Artifacts which have been wagered will transfer ownership to the winner upon satisfactory completion of the terms of the wager. Wagers are treated as any standard unit to unit ownership transfer and can only occur at the request of the unit that owns them.

Using An Artifact

There are multiple ways an artifact can be used, in a piece of fiction or storyline or by an individual member for their personal use.

Member: If an artifact is owned by a member, it can only be equipped and used by that member and carried into engagements. Within an individual piece of fiction, it can realistically be borrowed by other members.

Unit: If an artifact is owned by a unit, the leadership of that unit may determine what role that Artifact fictionally plays within the unit.

  • Use of a Unit Artifact by a Member: Artifacts owned by a unit may be used by members. A request for a transfer of use to the member must be processed by the Regent. Transfer of use requests may be submitted at the discretion of leadership of the unit which owns the artifact and may or may not have additional restrictions such as duration as determined by unit leadership. As noted above, ownership is retained by the unit. Members which have approved transfer of use requests for artifacts will have a note placed on their dossier, which stipulates the immediate return of the artifact to the owner unit upon transfer to a different unit, including Rogues.

Artifact Destruction

There is only one way that an artifact can be removed from existence, with approval from the Grand Master or Deputy Grand Master. This would mean that the artifact no longer has an owner, and does not exist in a fictional sense and details/prototypes hidden from view.

The owner of an artifact can surrender ownership with an email stating as such explicitly detailing the request to the Regent. This would release ownership to the Dark Council for reassignment as the Grand Master or Deputy Grand Master saw fit.

The Grand Master or Deputy Grand Master with outlined details and explicit instructions can remove an artifact from existence, instructing the Regent to remove any copies of that artifact in the possessions system and hide it from view. Details of the removal should be documented on the wiki for completeness.
