Lyspair is the moon to the planet Antei, the central planet of the Brotherhood. When the Brotherhood moved to Antei, the moon was selected to serve as the home of the Shadow Academy. Almost all Dark Brotherhood members call Lyspair their home at the beginning of their paths; many will return to take additional classes, or perhaps even to serve as instructors or leaders. And some new members never leave Lyspair at all, instead remaining as simple servants because they proved to be incapable of what they thought they were.
Geography
Lyspair is a, by all accounts, desolate wasteland. Much of the planet is covered by arid steppes and desert. Small plants and dry grasses can be found, but larger flora must be imported. Mountain ranges randomly scar the surface of the planet. Two oceans, one slightly larger than the other, comprise approximately 17 percent of the moon's surface, and they give the moon a tennis-ball like appearance. Steep cliffs rise above the oceans along almost every coastal area. The Shadow Academy is located on just one of these cliffs above the smaller of the two oceans. There are very few traditional beaches.
Climate
The climate on Lyspair is determined by the moon's rotation, which is fairly fast. The moon goes through 48 hours of light followed by 48 hours of darkness. During the light periods, the temperature reaches up to 40 degrees centigrade; during the dark periods, the temperature rarely gets above 10 degrees centigrade.
Lyspair does not have seasons, at least not in any meaningful sense. It does rain on Lyspair, but only during the dark periods, and never enough to alter the landscape of the moon.
Atmosphere
Asides from its harsh climate and geography, the atmosphere adds to Lyspair's ideal status as a training area for the Brotherhood. The atmosphere consists of oxygen and other gases. Though its atmosphere is breathable, it is thinner than the average, oxygen based planet. One can live normally, but those not used to such an atmosphere will tire very quickly.
This atmosphere also provides the first test for all initiates. Prospective students are dropped 40 kilometers (25 miles) outside of the academy. Only those who make it to the academy's main gates are granted entrance, and there are still other tests to finish.
