"This is something I must do. I feel it will be important sometime in the future."
―Xilaren Bastra, creator of the journal
Xilaren Bastra

Creation

"My name is Xilaren Bastra. This is my legacy."
―The first recording

Lady Xilaren Bastra, a Jedi Consular in the time of the Clone wars, was always bothered about her fate and her future. She could never clearly see what was in store for her but she always felt something wrong. This bothered her to no end, and as a practitioner and supporter of the Unifying Force doctrine her mind was never at rest.

Not long before her untimely demise and well into the war, she realized that she could meet her fate very soon and a feeling of impending doom followed her thoughts constantly. At that moment she decided to leave a recording of her life, her role in the order and her beloved philosophy. It was her gift to posterity.

Purpose

"The Unifying Force binds and connects us on many levels. All is one within it."
―Explaining the doctrine

The recordings in the holojournal are mostly personal information, reports from the front or deeply emotional recordings showing the Consular in tears or pain. While most of the recordings are very cryptic and specific to some event, person or issue, there are those that are of a more general and instructional nature. Most of this information is based around the The Unifying Force theory and doctrine, explaining and describing it in great detail.

It explains that the Force is a single entity, one without darkness or light but rather a whole that binds all things, living and non-living together through space and time. It states that Jedi use the Force as "An end in itself" while the Sith use it "As an means to an end". The doctrine is one of mystery in that it's practitioners focus on the future and searching for "fate" rather than focusing on the present. Some people say that if Jedi of the old order embraced this doctrine, the Galactic Empire might not have risen to power in the first place.

Fate

"They're near. May the Force embrace me if I die."
―Said through tears a few hours before her death

On the planet called Tar Tar Morden during a battle between the Republic Clone army and the Separatist droid forces, Order 66 was issued but Xilaren, luckily, was further away from the squad. When she realized her brothers were getting slaughtered, she hid and for three days evaded the patrols. All that time, she was recording. When they did find her, she put up a fight, killing six of the twelve clones before they shot her to death. After that she passed and the holojournal shut down.

Discovery

"I'm sorry, my master..."
―Xilaren Bastra's last recording

55 years late, in 36 ABY, fugitive from the law and Force-user, Tyren Atema, found her skeleton and the holojournal near it. He took it for his own and everything changed once he activated it

Usage

"What they felt they could not be see, so they died or ran to flee. Many have thought, but few have felt. A great destiny you have been dealt."
―A cryptic riddle said in a meditation state

Tyren continued using the holojournal. He payed a street thug to unlock the encryption code before erasing his memory. He played everything from the teachings of the Unifying Force to her most intimate moment. This was something Tyren connected with on a deeper level since their situations were similar in many respects. Her loneliness on the field corresponded well with his on the run.

Tyren still uses the holojournal, away from the eyes and ears of his Clan and House. Thankfully, so far, no one has discovered his secret, and he hopes it stays that way.
