―Vai Azexel

Vai Azexel is a fallen Jedi Knight and servant to the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Turning from the light during his captivity with the Yuuzhan Vong, Vai found strength in the darkside and used it to escape his captors. To this day, Vai has an extreme hatred of the Vong and looks forward to the day of judgment. Under the instruction of Battlemaster Sato Tarentae, Vai is learning to focus his anger & hatred to become a true warrior of the Sith.

Character History

Early Life

Born to an exiled (self-imposed) Jedi Knight by the name of Zek Azexel & a Firrerreon priestess in 12 BBY, Vai Azexel’s life was not ordinary. His family moved to different cities on the planet quite often and never stayed in a place for more than 3 years. Vai was an only child until 3 bby, when his sister Vasa was born. For the next five years, Vai’s father and mother taught him what they knew; his father taught Vai of the force.

In 0 ABY, darkness came into the Azexel family when the traitorous Lord Hethrir, to prove his loyalty to the empire, condemned his own homeworld. Thousands of Firrerreo were kidnapped by the Empire, at the same time the Emperor’s elite Starcrash Brigade unleashed a hive virus which killed the remaining inhabitants of Firrerre. Vai and his sister Vasa were among those kidnapped. Their mother was killed by the Imperial troopers and their father Zek went mad and ended up killing himself. Vai and his sister, along with other survivors were made to watch as the virus spread across Firrerre. Soon after, the ships departed the planet and the passengers were placed in suspended animation, there they would stay for atleast the next 4 years.

Slave

In 14 ABY. Vai was taken out of suspended animation. He was now 26 years old, however do to his time in suspended animation he had only aged 4 years and was 18 years old. He and other slaves recently released were taken to Nar Shaddaa to be auctioned off as slaves. A Rodian Smuggler by the name of Kro Shull purchased Vai from the slave trader. Vai would become a runner for the Rodian smugger over the next two years.

Sometime in 16 ABY, Vai met a Twi’lek dancer by the name of Ki’ki, the two became good friends, and secretly married. Ki’ki worked at a shady bar in the entertainment sector, her owner was a rival of Kro Shull. Later that same year, Ki’ki was viciously murdered after a failed agreement between Kro Shull and her owner. Vai’s life was destroyed, and in a fit of pure rage Vai murdered the two slave masters as they slept and then escaped aboard a freighter bound for Onderon.

When Vai arrived at Onderon, he encountered two Rodian bounty hunters. They were tasked with bringing the slave Vai Azexel back to Nar Shaddaa for killing Kro Shull & the other Rodian slave master. Vai felt a presence come off the freighter and turned to see an old man, wearing beating old robes. The old man’s face had been scarred by many battles. The old man walked up to Vai, whispered for him to stay where he was, and then turned towards the bounty hunters. Some words were spoken by the old man and the bounty hunters left. The old man then walked back up to Vai and said follow me; son of Zek Azexel, there is no time to waste. Vai followed the robed man, many questions raced through his mind. Vai was led to a quiet dock, with a small ship parked on it. The old man entered the ship, Vai followed close behind. The ship departed Onderon and headed into deep space.

Jedi Padawan

Onboard the ship, the old man introduced himself as Zek Azexel’s master. He told Vai that he had been watching the Azexel family and his apprentice from a distance and ever since the events transpired on Firrerre, he had been searching for them. The ancient Jedi Master told Vai of how he had survived the Jedi Purge. He then told Vai of what the future will be, of the conflict that is to come. He told Vai that he is strong in the force and that he needs to learn to harness it and become an instrument of the force. The two traveled to the planet Ossus where the Jedi Master taught Vai the ways of the Jedi.

Vai learned all he could from his master until a fateful night in 23 ABY when a Dark Side Adept had finally tracked down his prey. Vai’s master was meditating in his chamber when the Dark Adept quietly came in. The Dark Adept entered the chamber as if it were a ghost and struck down meditating jedi master and killed him. Vai was in the room next to his masters and heard the sound of the lightsaber. Vai was about to investigate when he heard his masters voice coming from behind. Vai turned around and saw his master, however he was glowing. The ghost told Vai to use whatever means to escape the planet and avoid the Dark Adept. Vai successfully escaped the Dark Adept aboard his former master’s starship the Valiant Star. He set the heading of the Valiant Star for the borderworlds. For the next two years he bounced from system to system, trying to eluding the Dark Side Assassins.

Jedi Praxeum

Sometime in 25 ABY, the spirit of his former master came to Vai, the spirit instructed him to go to Yavin IV and seek out the force there. When he arrived on the planet he encountered several force users at an ancient temple deep in the jungles. Vai was brought before a Jedi Knight who questioned Vai on how he got there. Vai knew that the force had guided him, told the same to the Knight. The Knight granted Vai acceptance into the Jedi Praxeum.

In 26 ABY, The Yuuzhan Vong/Peace Brigade attacked the Jedi Praxeum. Vai fought off several of the attackers, however the Yuuzhan Vong kept getting reinforcements. Vai once again, as he did on Ossus, heard the voice of his former master, the master said that he must escape. Vai, having studied with the Jedi of the Praxeum for the past year found those words hard to believe, he kept fighting for what he felt was right. Vai met up with Jedi Knight Kam Solusar and several other Jedi in the dock. They boarded the “Wild Karrde” and escaped the planet. The ship took Vai and other Jedi to Coruscant. When they arrived they were brought before the Jedi Council and questioned. Before Vai left the council chamber he was honored with receiving his Knight status.

Knight of the New Jedi Order

As a Jedi Knight in the New Jedi Order, Vai found a peace that he had long forgotten for many years. Even though war was raging, Vai kept his mind calm and was ready to serve the New Jedi Order when they would call upon him. In 27 ABY, Vai was summoned by the council along with several other knights. They were sent on a secret Mission to Myrkr. Lando Calrissian and his wife pretended to be Yuuzhan Vong sympathizers from Talfaglio. They delivered Vai and the other Jedi Knights to a rendezvous point with the Yuuzhan Vong scout ship Exquisite Death, which delivered the team through the heavily mined Vong frontier to Myrkr. The Jedis were tortured on the journey; Vai received a severe scar on his right cheek to just under his ear. The Jedi used Force Meld to heal each other through the ordeal. The Jedi then turned on the Yuuzhan Vong and captured the ship in hyperspace. Through the great sacrifice of the death of Anakin Solo, the team was able to infiltrate the worldship, Baanu Rass, and kill the Voxyn queen. While escaping, Vai fell into a trap and was presumed dead by the remaining Jedi.

Vong Prisoner

Following his capture, Vai awoke in a Vong torture cell, he was unable to move as if paralyzed. Yet he still had in senses and could feel. From out of no where a painful slash came across his face, Vai could feel the blood flowing from the wound, but couldn't do anything about it. The tall imposing figure of a Vuuzhan Vong Warrior appeared before him. In the Vong’s right hand was a Amphistaff. The Vong warrior with accuracy, used the Amphistaff on Vai again, this time striking the Jedi’s right leg. The weapon caused a deep wound from Vai’s inner thigh to his knee. Vai screamed out in pain and then went unconscious. The Vong warrior was toying with the Jedi, to make him suffer for what he and the other Jedi had done. The same treatment happened daily, leaving scars all over Vai’s body. The Vuuzhan gaining pleasure from the Jedi’s screams.

After an extremely nasty torture session, Vai feel into a dark coma-like trance. In his trace he was visited by a mysterious figure in a black cloak. The figure made Vai believe that they was a friend and an ally. That they would help him defeat his Vuuzhan Vong captors. The dark being convinced Vai to fight for his survival, no matter what the cost. The dark being in his dreams taught Vai of the darkside and how to use the power to defeat his enemies. This began Vai’s slow fall to the power of the darkside. As Vai’s connection to the light lessoned and his connection to the darkside strengthen, he felt stronger and more able to withstand the torture.

Escape from the Vong

After 4 months of captivity and torture Vai had changed into a hardened spirit. He was almost opposite of what he had been as a Jedi. The dark being continued to teach Vai of the darkside and helped him grow into an even stronger entity. The two made an agreement that is was time for Vai to leave and staged an escape. The being said that they would arrange for a shuttle to be placed at a port near the cells. In the middle of the night sometime in 28 BBY, Vai awoke, found himself free of his binding and able to move. The cell door was unlocked, so Vai left the cell and began escaping through the halls of the Yuuzhan fortress using a radical force power called Art of the Small. Eluding the Vong, Vai found the docking bay where Vergere said she would leave the ship. The area was guarded by a Vuushan Vong warrior. Vai fought the Vong warrior and defeated it. He then used the shuttle to escape the fortress, however was pursued. The vessel was hit by several shots and shook violently. Vai’s head was slammed against a metal surface and was knocked unconscious and slipped into a coma. Some how, during the battle, the hyper drive activated and sent the vessel into hyperspace. The vessel crashed on a planet in the Antei System.

The Brotherhood

Vai awoke from his coma in a prison cell on Antei, a member of the Dark Council interrogated Vai.. Vai told the Dark Jedi everything he knew. The member of the Dark Council went back to the chambers to consult with the other council members. After a week the Dark Jedi gave Vai a simple choice, to either join the brotherhood, or die. Vai chose life and was made a member of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood.

Vai was chosen by Sith Battlemaster Sato Tarentae as an apprentice and thus began Vai's training as a member of the brotherhood and a Sith.

Recently, 29 BBY, Vai was assigned to a Sith Battleteam in House Cestus.
