Early Life
Not much is known about Jaal Marinus except that he hails from Dantooine.
It is whispered between the other officers that Jaal was raised by a brilliant tactical commander who adopted him from his parents and took him to study abroad at the age of 10. The identity of that commander, like the other details about Jaal's early life is subject to speculation as Jaal never offers a straight answer when asked, giving only vague descriptions of situations long past and quoting proverbs which apply to the question.
Adulthood
Like his past as a child, not much is known about Jaal except that he served in the Imperial Navy.
It is known that he once had a wife and several children but no one really knows much about that time in Jaal's life. He keeps no pictures and never speaks of a family.
When asked about such things, Jaal responds with proverbs which relate that all things happen for a reason, even if the wisest of men know not what the reason may be.
Commander Marinus was brought on as the Executive Officer of the ISDII Eye of the Abyss IIon the honorable recommendation of Ban Quell who recognized his potential.
Personality
Despite his old age, Jaal has a mind like a diamond and continues to surprise his superiors as well as those below him who might bide for his position.
Jaal is a quiet, mild-tempered old fellow with a commanding presence. He enjoys the challenge of tactics and in his free time, he is either studying, reading or playing out tactical scenarios in old-style war games on boards in his office.
