Joseph Skirata was born in 3 BBY on an unknown planet far from the Galactic Center. His parents abandoned him at birth and he was left to fend for himself. The wild would be unforgiving, but by chance he was found by the Miralukan Elder Nikon, a well-known prophet adept in the Force. As he performed his pilgrimage under the cover of night, Nikon discovered the small child, bound in a blanket.
