| On the side bar of any page in the "toolbox" it has a link for "What links here". That will give you a list of every page that has a link to the page (or template or category, etc) that you're checking. [[:Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Species]]. The Species template is used in several places. If you're just adding to the template, there should be no problem (if you know what you're doing), but if you want to change it entirely I would strongly suggest not doing so. Does anyone know if this template is currently in use? I've not really seen it around (or maybe I'm just blind).
