Your avatar - the round image which appears at the top of your dossier - offers a concise visual representation of your character’s likeness. The logo of your core unit will appear by default until a custom image has been uploaded.

Custom Avatars

Upon reaching the rank of JM2, you earn the ability to submit custom avatars to the Herald for approval. These avatars may be applied to your dossier as well as your individual alt/npc character sheets. This avatar must adhere to the Avatar requirements and Restrictions listed below. This includes image ownership rights, quality, size and more.

The Herald staff reserves the right to remand any image based on these criterias as well as the suitability of said image. Any image deemed offensive or otherwise inflammatory for display on the Brotherhood website will be remanded and repeated offenses may be referred to the Justicar’s office for review.

Requirements

To protect the Brotherhood from legal ramifications and ensure the presentability of dossiers, images are required to meet all of the following points.

Technical

  • Your avatar must be 100x100 pixels
  • Avatars must be submitted through the “Avatar Change Request” form in your administration panel.
  • If you are not the creator of the image, you must have expressed or implied permission from the artist to use the image as your avatar. The name of the artist must be provided in the form’s text field.
  • If you are the original creator, then simply state yourself as the source in the form’s text field.
  • If the avatar was generated by AI, state the source as AI in the form’s text field.
  • You must also click the box verbalizing understanding of the Small Print before submission.

The Herald staff reserves the right to investigate if there is reasonable doubt concerning the source of the image. Cases of stolen artwork will be referred to the Justicar’s office for review.

Quality

  • Your avatar must be a reasonable attempt at your character’s. While professional-level artwork is not required, rough sketches, stick figures, or images otherwise deemed to be subpar will be remanded.
  • The character’s head should occupy the majority of the image. Depending on physical proportions, a good cut off point will generally fall around the collar.
  • Your avatar must be in color. Grayscale or monochrome images will be remanded.

Restrictions

Additionally, there are some restrictions, too:

  • Your avatar must not be a photo or photo manipulation.
  • Your avatar must not be pixelated or have too many compression artifacts, scan artifacts, etc.
  • Your avatar must not be a direct clone of a copy-written character. We don't want to have 50 Han Solos and 23 Sephiroths floating around the site. If you create, receive, or commission a piece of art, it must be unique enough to be considered "yours".

Please note: the DJB currently does not create images for characters in any official capacity. If you happen to find your character in any official DJB artwork, you may use that image if it does not violate any of the above bullet points. If you need assistance with verifying that the size/quality of your avatar meets these standards, please email the current Herald office staff.

Exceptions

The Herald Staff, Grand Master, and Deputy Grand Master reserve the right to upload non-standard custom images in place of avatars for the purposes of: special events, occasional jokes, dunce-caps for serial policy violators, etc.

Requesting an Avatar

If you and your avatar meet the above requirements, feel free to use the request form on your Administration page.
