The Gilded Archipelago is an attempt at buidling an Aeotheran city by experimental means. Using refugees local to the system, a ready pool of labor was gathered to build the Crown Jewel of Aeotheran, The Gilded Archipelago. The city was built under the new Sadow Directive, specifically by House Shar Dakhan, as the financial arm of the Clan. First working hand in hand with the Dlarit Corporation, and then with the Orian Assembly when they took over, the plan was for the city to be one of economic enhancement through local business.

Following the conquest of Orian by the Collective and their occupation the project was abandoned and nature took over, with many of the constructed facilities falling into disrepair and collapsing. Following the reconquest of Aeotheran by House Shar Dakhan the project has has recommenced, and a years construction has seen a third of the islands now populated with citizens, along with pre fabricated and permanent housing, shops, medical and local policing and entertainment facilities. The project is still ongoing with more of the islands being developed.

Original Overview (Historic)

The Gilded Archipelago is a chain of over 45 islands within a cluster approximately 13,000 square kilometers. Only 15 of these islands however, are larger than a decent sized residental subdivision. These 15 islands are zoned for hotels, businesses, restaurants, and sundry other 'tourist' stops. The largest island is something of a major hub, sitting very roughly center in the island cluster. It boasts a very well appointed, and very large starport, capable of handling even the largest of transport yachts, a few very high profile skyscrapers, hotels, upscale restaurants, couture shopping, and many public transportation hubs.

Approximately 15 meters below sea level are transparisteel covered speeder roads which permit very quick and effecient travel between the different districts within the islands.

Resources and Utilities

Power

The Gilded Archipelago is supplied by much the same types of systems as Kel Rasha.

Tidal Energy: Tied to the local desalination centers are tidal energy plants, allowing for less use of space to provide multiple services.

Geothermal Energy: Below the repulsor tethers lies a massive geothermal plant. This plant, called the Sub-Aquatic Geothermal Energy Collection Station by Orian, and Solitary Confinement by employees, is largely droid operated, with sapient employees working 6 months on, 6 months off, due to the extreme isolation and boredom. This facility contains 10 levels, mostly operations, though the top floor, which is the largest, boasts comfortable dormitories, a stocked galley, and exercise facilities, all under a shield supported transparisteel dome. There are rumors that the lift system was built for more than 10 floors, and the system shows evidence of having traveled farther than the official maintenance logs list.

The truth is, levels 11 through 13 are set up as training facilities dedicated specifically to the Quaestor of House Shar Dakhan and those deigned worthy. In addition, known only to the House Quaestor, there exists a Level 14, which is something of a Panic room. There are non-perishable supplies enough to wait out almost a full year (though a good portion of that time would wisely be spent in a hibernation trance.)

Food

70% of the foodstuffs found in the Gilded Archipelago are imported from Kel Rasha, while the remainder are imported through the Orian Authority. Only .5% is locally caught or grown, that mostly contrives from private fishermen and small gardeners.

History

As it happens, it shall be added.

Points of Interest

Jewel’s Crown Islands

The center islands amidst the cluster, Jewel’s Crown contains the largest among the group. Around 1260 square kilometers total, Jewel’s Crown houses the largest starport, several luxury hotels, high quality restaurants, shopping malls, and massive stretches of beach. When tourists come to the Archipelago, this is where they stay.

Jewel's Crown Nature Park

The Nature Park

Covering about 5 square kilometers on the largest of the Crown cluster, this park was built to mimic the natural beauty of Aeotheran. The area has no real hiking trails, but that doesn't stop people from coming to check the place out. Kresshian Studios has already used this location several times for one of their holoprograms, and donates considerable sums of money to keeping the place clean and maintained.

Residential Islands

Where the locals live, these islands were carefully manufactured with specific dimensions in mind, but ran through a randomizing algorithm to maintain a natural look.

Subdivision Islands

30 of the residential islands are rather large, and built to accommodate several dozen homes capable of sustaining families of up to six or eight. In addition, these islands also contain support locations, such as schools, hospitals, fuel stations, grocery stores, and small strip malls. More like a small city than a neighborhood, each of these islands has it’s own name, and residents tend to identify themselves based upon that more than anything else.

Individual Islands

10 of the islands are smaller, and contain only a single large home built in a sleek, contemporary style. This is where the Executive Director’s home is located, as well as a small number of Orian Assembly executives. Ownership of one of these islands is a costly endeavor, and the home built upon it is not part of a package deal. That being said, a buyer can most certainly finance both the island and the home upon it through Orian Assembly in one go.
