The TAW-6A Autopistol is a self-loading slugthrowing weapon designed by Tarentum Armament Works. Firing a relatively low-velocity 13mm heavy metal slug, the TAW6 is primarily employed as a secondary or defensive weapon against infantry based attacks.

Features

The TAW6 boasts rigidly stamped durasteel construction, relatively high cyclic firing rates, repulsor-based inertial compensators, and a variety of other combat-enhancing devices. The first of several slugthrowing weapons from the TAW corporation, the TAW6 is essentially an antique weapon revived with modern technology. Factory-loaded 25 cartridge magazines are standard for this weapon and are disposable. Magnetic guides near the magazine well ensure easy magazine loading during high-stress combat situations. Other features include a retractable shoulder stock, flip-up digital day/night/infrared sighting device, datalinks for numerous armor helmet heads-up-display integration, and multiple standardized attachment options for devices such as vibrobayonets or grenade launchers. Most weapons are finished in a slate-gray camouflage configuration, assuming most combat against Yuuzhan Vong will take place in the cities or onboard military starships.

When it comes to business, the TAW6 is made to kill - no questions asked. Functioning equally well as a pistol, carbine (with stock extended), or submachine gun (with optional 100-round magazines), the TAW6 can deliver 800 metal slugs to the target area in 60 seconds. The revolutionary repulsor-based recoil compensator combines with a visual sensor at the end of the barrel to "memorize" the target picture, and deliver gentle pulses of counteracting force to keep the weapon on target during firing. The result is the consistent ability to place 90% of all shots fired within a 2" circular area at distances as great as 150 yards, regardless of user proficiency. The only downside to this system is that it is impossible to move the weapon off target while it is either discharging, extracting a spent cartridge, or loading a fresh one; when the chamber is locked and the trigger is not depressed, however, the inertial compensator is disabled and the line of sight can be moved once again. Since this entire process occurs in much less than a tenth of a second, users have reported that this feature is unnoticeable to their firing process. Single, quadruple, and fully automatic fire selectors are ambidextrously located on either side of the trigger.

Performance

While the 13mm slug the TAW6 fires is relatively heavy and slow compared to its rifle or machine-gun based brethren, it has proven to perform adequately against Yuuzhan Vong warrior body armor. While a single round with direct armor contact will not penetrate, it will cause cracking or spalling to their crab armor, and multiple (5 to 8) impacts to the same area will cause penetration to the body. In its pistol configuration, the TAW6 is intended as a self-defense weapon only and is not designed for prolonged attacks against Yuuzhan Vong infantry - it is highly recommended that users in such roles opt for the TAW-8GP Combat Rifle. The TAW6 functions well as a supporting light rifle in its carbine configuration and excels at close quarters combat in the SMG configuration, slightly edging out the TAW-8GP in effectiveness due to magazine capacity and rate of fire. Users have reported that the TAW6 has distinctly large muzzle flash and a moderately loud report, both of which may either be a negative aspect or a psychological boost in combat.
