"They aaaaall need my talents. And when they're done with them, they put me here, in this cold, boozeless cell. I'm done with the Navy. I need a drink."
―Rohla Trugaim

Captain Rohla Trugaim is the pilot of Gundark Squad, led by General Zentru'la. Formerly an ace pilot of the Imperial Scholae Navy, she was discharged and imprisoned for flying drunk in the Battle over Lyra, before she was broken out by Zentru'la and recruited to his team to fly the Harbinger.

Character History

Early Life

Rohla Trugaim was born on a ship in 13 ABY and lived most of her life on one. She was born on the flagship of Clan Scholae Palatinae, the Victory-Class Star Destroyer Excidium, to two duros officers of The Fleet of Scholae Palatinae, at a period where the clan was in a state of flux, finding a new home following the Exodus. Rohla was one year old when Scholae Palatinae declared the Cocytus System its new home, although she is too young to remember the conflict. Rohla's first memories are growing up on the Excidium, where she received a military education as a cadet along with the offspring of other naval officers.

From the age of five she began to play flight simulator games aboard the Excidium. She was much better than most of her peers at piloting starfighters in dogfights, and before long no-one wanted to play with her anymore as she would always win, despite quite a relaxed and laid back attitude. Her non-competitive nature just made defeat even more frustrating for the others. She was enjoying life, until the Eighth Great Jedi War, when she was 8 years old.

The war against the unknown aliens was the bloodiest battle in Dark Jedi Brotherhood history, and the Excidium came under heavy fire. The ship was eventually destroyed, but not before Rohla saved her own life by getting behind the controls of a TIE fighter, and flying a real ship for the first time, escaped the Excidium just before it exploded, and docked in the hangar of the Ogmio's Whip, which eventually survived the war. However, her family were killed aboard the Excidium, and the loss of her home and everything she knew shook the young Duros.

Imperial Navy Pilot

Rohla was officially recruited into the Imperial Scholae Navy aged 16, in 29 ABY as a fighter pilot. Her talent for effectively utilising unusual stunts during combat led her to be drafted into the Bedevilers Wing of the Scholae Palatinae Fighter Corps. She flew a TIE Hunter during the Tenth Great Jedi War invasion of New Tython, destroying multiple enemy ships in dogfights.

Following that, she fought in every battle the Scholae Palatinae fighter corps were involved in, despite developing a heavy dependence on alcohol when she became 18. To her, it helped her deal with the trauma from the destruction of the Excidium and her family. Although this often put her at odds with her commanders and she often found herself reprimanded, no one could argue that her raw talent wasn't a successful asset to the fighter corps.

When Emperor Xen'Mordin Vismorsus's Grand Vizier Elincia Rei reformed the navy into the Imperial Scholae Navy, Rohla was assigned to the Quasar Fire-class Cruiser Carrier ISN Tyranite, where she was flight leader of a TIE/D Defender Squadron at the rank of Lieutenant. She was promoted to Captain following her performance in the Twelfth Great Jedi War above Nancora.

Gundark Squad

Her alcohol dependence caught up with her following the Thirteenth Great Jedi War. The commanding officer the ISN Tyranite was promoted and moved to the ISN Tarkin, and his replacement was far more by the book. When she was caught flying drunk in the battle over Lyra Colony, she was officially court-martialled despite taking out ten enemy ships on her own, and held in a military prison aboard the new clan flagship, the Retribution.

Shortly after this battle, General Zentru'la, angered by his daughter's death in the war, began his personal vendetta against The Collective, and became disillusioned with the Scholae Empire. He began building a team to fight the collective on his own terms, and Rohla was one of the first names on his list to recruit. He broke her out of prison using his rank as leverage. Rohla was initially hesitant, as Zentru'la had a reputation for running things military, much like the commanding officer that imprisoned her, but when he explained that the mission was to pick their own battles and deal as much damage to the Collective as possible, she realised Zentru'la wasn't quite what she had heard about. He promised her all the booze she needed as long as she got the job done.

However, his ship was the Harbinger, inherited from Empress Elincia Rei. She had heard that the ship was possessed by a demonic AI, and was initially resistant, but the only other option was staying in her cell. G14-D05 was exactly what she feared, and was initially resistant to having organics pilot the ship. Rohla and G14-D05 were constantly in conflict, as the AI did not approve of Rohla's drunken unpredictability, and Rohla did not approve of the AI getting in the way of her work. Rohla was instrumental in gaining the information needed to recruit cyborg ninja Masakado to the team.

When Zentru'la and Masakado travelled to Chyron to recruit the healer Lilina Mirin, they encountered the Taldryan army. Zentru'la ordered Rohla to flee back to the Caperion System, but she refused the order, wanting to move in for an evacuation to save Zentru'la. However, G14 assumed direct control of the ship, forcing her away from the Caelus System and ensuring the safety of the ship.
