A rare breed, this Corellian brute has gone from starship mechanic, to Jedi, to Mandalorian; accepted by the Ordo Clan when he was in service to Clan Odan-Urr. A Mandalorian Jedi, while extremely unique, is a fearsome warrior. Well, was, before he succumbed to the seductive and numbing effects of alcohol. Fighting his own demons, he has been contracted by Clan Vizsla, where he was adopted by Deathwatch and currently accepts bounties in order to keep the Tipsy Mynock stocked and fuelled. A place where he is trying to find himself and is eager but reluctant to redeem himself in the eyes of his allies.

Character History

Dirt Beneath His Nails

A gruff renegade, Mars Riggs had a hard life growing up in the Santhe Shipyards of Coronet City. There, he would learn starship research and development under the guidance and mentorship of his hard-nosed father, Godik. Never knowing his mother, Mars always heard his father talking about how she left to pursue a better life on Batuu, she was special, gifted in ways that Godik couldn't understand. Everyone else knew she was going to join the fight. While she loved her son and knew deep down that he possessed the same gifts, her leaving was for his own good, for his safety. She wished to shelter Mars from what he could become as the Galaxy was in turmoil, it was the beginning of the Great Jedi Purge and the end of the Republic. Godik, once a renowned soldier in the Clone Wars could no longer fight his emotion and turned to drink after his wife left causing him to resent Mars as he was the reason for her separation. Nevertheless, he would teach the boy, all the while, growing more and more jealous of the ease at which his son would make a name for himself as a mechanic; drumming up even more business than his more experienced father, even at a young age. With an arrogant swagger, Mars was stealing business from the engineering guilds and people were taking notice.

One such guild was run by the notorious Black Sun organization. They were enraged that Mars was cutting into their profits and would frequently rob, destroy, and threaten Godik and Mars, until one day, Godik stood up to them in a drunken fit of rage and was shot in cold blood. Left to rot in the streets as an example. Mars’ mental struggle began that day as he vowed to topple the Black Sun gang, to cut off the head of the snake, to liberate the people trying to eek out an existence in the presence of underground affairs. He would succeed, when they returned to collect Godik’s possessions. Mars laid in wait with a burning desire to free the tradesman and to avenge his father. They entered to see a seething teenager who had tapped into a power he didn’t understand. An explosion of energy, untamed and wild, shredded the shop, killing every thug in the building, embedding fear into the hearts of the crowd who gathered for the eviction. Surely news of this episode would reach the Empire. Mars knew, in that moment, he would be hunted for the rest of his life. Like his mother, he would flee, disappearing into the streets.

A Gamble

Trouble, after killing a Black Sun crime boss, that’s all that Mars Riggs could seem to find. Hunted, chased, forced into hiding. The boy was always able to stay one step ahead of his pursuers. Yet, running was becoming expensive and sleeping in back alleys and street corners was less than ideal. A touch crazy and daring, he was able to take a job as a test pilot. It was a dangerous job but he was able to hone his abilities, flying vessels that were ready for market or barely holding together. He learned how to deal with many different failures and scenarios, his life depended on his success, his instincts, and his ability to learn and adapt on the fly. Eventually, he had earned enough credits to buy his own ship. It was a transport vessel that he used as a freelance pilot, ferrying passengers to worlds within the (system). It wasn't a great job but it enabled him to leave Corellia for long stretches of time and allowed him to explore the trade routes. Due to his success as a pilot, he was approached by Dorian Sinn, he was a fine dressed man, a gambler and smuggler. He persuaded Mars to pick up an unknown package and paid him a handsome sum of credits for delivering it. Just like that Riggs was hooked and was taken under Dorian’s wing, taught to smuggle and taken advantage of in the casinos. But being taken advantage of would be short lived as Mars learned that he was adept in persuasion and was able to read the cards, to sense the next move. He would amass wealth and fame, even going as far as buying (transport) vessel he would later rename the Tipsy Mynock. Fabrication took place on the vessel and he turned it into a floating casino and bar. An establishment for high-stakes games and a very select list of patrons.
