The Sandbox pages are pages that are specifically intended for members to experiment or play around with different techniques/formatting or wiki syntax. The idea of a sandbox is a bit less needed given that the Show Preview button allows our members to see their changes before they make them. However, some members like to work on a page for some time before they make it 'live', and as such Wiki sandboxes can prove quite useful.

History

Historically, such pages were created as a place with fewer policies or regulations. As such, a sandbox may be left relatively untouched for reasons such as not abiding by Manual of Style or not adhering to DB canon. To quote the Wikipedia page on the subject: "However, they must not be used for malicious purposes, and policies such as no personal attacks, civility, and copyrights (such as non-free content criteria) still apply."

Creating Your Own Sandbox

If you have a username, you can create your own sandbox in your userspace, normally your User:Your-name-here. You can find your user sandbox here if you like links though. (And if it doesn't exist yet, feel free to create it!) For easy access, there is a link labeled "sandbox" at the top right of every page between the "talk" and "preferences" links.

If you want more sandboxes then make a page in your userspace and designate it as your sandbox.

To create a new sandbox (call it anything, such as 'sandbox2') enter this in the search box, using your actual username:
User:Yourname/sandbox
Then click on the reply you may create the page "User:Yourname/sandbox"

Unlike your primary sandbox, Wikipedia does not automatically keep a way to link to these, so be sure to bookmark it or otherwise have links on your userpage which go to your other sandboxes.

Summoning Wiki Staff

And as always, if you need help from the Wikistaff, you can always put NeedHelp between doubled-opening braces { and double closing braces }:

Help me, Wiki Staff. You're my only hope.

Use of this Page

If members really need/want to use this area, it is open to being used. The Tribune will just clean it up a bit after you are done using it. Just remember: no malicious uses.
