1st Battalion, or 1/22 was an armor battalion in the service of the Army of the Iron Throne. It was one of two (2) armor battalions in the 13th Starborne Division and served under I Legion, supported by Task Force 61 as part of Joint Task Force Rancor.

History

The battalion was formed in 27 ABY as part of the Dark Council's military reformation following the Battle of Antei. With countless worlds felled by the Yuuzhan Vong onslaught, the shaken galaxy offered no shortage of fighting beings whose militaries had collapsed and desperately sought survival through employment of their skills.

Organization

The 1st Battalion was organized into four companies including a Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), overseeing battalion administration, and three armored companies. Within each company were three armored vehicle platoons and one headquarters element. Each platoon consisted of four All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT's) divided into two sections of two AT-AT's each. Each company's headquarters element typically consisted of two AT-AT's commanded by the CO and XO respectively and supported by the First Sergeant usually commanding an AT-ST with several lighter vehicles in tow.

Section 1 of a standard armor platoon was commanded by the Platoon Leader (PL), typically a Lieutenant, in Vehicle 1 (sometimes "Walker" 1 depending on which armored vehicle the unit employed). Vehicle 2 (or "Walker" 2) was commanded by a Staff Sergeant and served as the Platoon Leader's wingman. Section 2 was commanded by the Platoon Sergeant (PSG) in Vehicle 4 (or "Walker" 4) and was supported by his wingman in Vehicle 3 commanded by another Staff Sergeant.

The companies all had similar capabilities, though were sometimes tasked with special responsibilities within the battalion. In a typical armored company Alpha Company acted as the reconnaissance element and fielded All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST's). Task/Organization for these recon companies was usually identical to that of the armored companies. Each company was commanded by an officer at the rank of Captain (CO) and assisted by an Executive Officer (XO) and First Sergeant (1SG). Platoons were commanded by Platoon Leaders typically at the rank of Lieutenant assisted by a Platoon Sergeant at the rank of Sergeant First-Class.

The battalion itself was overseen by an officer typically at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel assisted by an Executive Officer and Command Sergeant Major (CSM). Battalion Headquarters and Headquarters Company typically operated a number of light armored vehicles such as the AT-ST in order to provide support operations to the battalion elements.
