'''Dark Side Degrees''' are a method of rewarding those who put forth time and effort at the [[Shadow Academy]]. This article provides an overview of the new system. Supporting articles will be linked from here as they are created.

== Degree Levels and Types==

The four levels of Dark Side degrees, as originally created by HM Kaiann, will be adopted to fit the proposed new system. The degrees, with real life equivalents where applicable, are as follows:
*Dark Maven (Bachelors)
**The basic level, these degrees typically require only passing certain exams with certain scores. Some practical portions may be included.
**A minimum of 3-4 courses will be required for a Dark Maven Degree to be created. If only 3 courses are used, then some type of practical portion to the exam must be implemented.
*Dark Savant (Masters)
**Somewhat harder, these degrees require two Dark Maven degrees (specific to each subject area), plus a certain number of electives, and they may also include a practical portion.
*Dark Sage (PhD)
**The highest level most members can obtain, Dark Sage degrees denote great skill and hard work that goes above and beyond typical Shadow Academy work.
*Master of Dark Lore
**Awarded only to current and former [[Headmaster]]s at the order of the [[Grand Master]].

With the exception of Master of Dark Lore, the degrees will be open to the general membership and the only thing preventing a member from obtaining a degree will be the member.

== Grandfathering and Revocation==

Members will have a limited window to seek being grandfathered into the system. Once the window closes, it will not be reopened. All currently awarded degrees have been converted over to the current system. More details are on the [[SA Degree Requirements|requirements]] page.

Degrees may also be revoked. Any cheating on any Shadow Academy exam (whether it is part of the degree or not) is automatic grounds for the revocation of every single degree the member has earned. Any [[Chamber of Justice]] conviction will require the Headmaster to review and determine, on a case by case basis, whether or not the member’s degree(s) will be revoked. The decision is entirely at the discretion of the Headmaster. If a member holds a Dark Savant degree and has a required Dark Maven degree removed, they will lose the Dark Savant degree as well.

== Adding Degrees, Removing Degrees, and Electives==

As more courses open in the Shadow Academy, more degrees may be added to the available options. However, extra “filler” courses will not be created simply to allow the creation of a degree, even if it means that a certain subject area must remain without a degree. All courses must meet certain quality standards.

As the Shadow Academy is constantly changing and adapting, there is a possibility that a course will be removed, thus negating a degree. In this event, the previously awarded degrees will still stand, and a list of no longer existing degrees will be maintained.

Any course (except Brotherhood Basics) that is not established as part of a degree will be considered an elective course. Once a course becomes part of a degree, it will no longer be considered an elective, but those who used it as such will not have to take a new course.

==Disclaimer, Conclusion, and Credits==

The Headmaster reserves the right to alter degree requirements at any time, so long as they are applied equally across the Brotherhood. Members that are midway through a degree will be grandfathered.

It is hoped that the degree system will give the membership an additional feature that adds to their fictional and practical experience in the Brotherhood. The degree system will also allow for a reorganization of the courses under different categories, which is essentially required given the new fictional situation we find ourselves in.

This system described above resulted largely from the ideas of [[Dacien "BubbaX" Victae]], though they were inspired by the original degree system created by Kir Katarn, which was further refined by [[Spears]] and [[Anshar]].

The Gen'Dai are a wandering race. Known to explore the galaxy in tight family bands. Spears was born with a desire to know. With each planet he visited he studied every conceivable detail. Eventually he began to desire knowledge of the force. He kept these desires in check for close to 500 years. As the Sith prepared for the last Great War, Spears left his family and joined their ranks in an attempt to gain knowledge of the force. He was wounded, and captured by Republic Forces before he could complete his training. While recovering on a Republic Medical ship, he had a chance encounter with a group of Jedi whom had also been wounded in the War. While they where understandably of their wounded foe, whom was restrained to his med bed. Conversations eventually began and led to the force. While practices and techniques where never discussed. Spears interests where peaked. With the apparent destruction of the Sith following the war, and being known as a former Sith Follower direct access to the Jedi was out of the question. The Sith crushed Spears went back to his family and as the Gen'Dai do he continued to Wander..

For a thousand years he wandered aimlessly. Driven from System to System by his thirst of knowledge. Always remaining in the shadows watching and learning, from those he passed. At one time or another he studied at all of the Galaxies finest Institutes of Learning. Nothing escaped his grasp from the Arts, to Math and Sciences, to date he has acquired over 22 Doctorates in varies subjects and under various assumed names and identities. Of all the things he had learned he has learned how to disappear the best Mastering of the arts of Stealth and Silence. Throughout all of that time his drive to learn more of the Force was never quenched. From time to time he had learned more of the Force most of it remnants of his initial Sith Training and the rest gathered together from ancient Sith and Jedi texts. It wasn’t until he learned of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood that he was finally able to fully immerse himself in the study of the Force. This drive to learn eventually led him to the position of Headmaster, so that he may pass on some of what he has learned to other members of the Brotherhood. As they say a subject is never truly known until it is taught.

'''Clan Tarentum''' is one of six remaining Dark Jedi [[Clan|Clans]] within the [[Dark Brotherhood|Brotherhood of Dark Jedi]]. It currently has two constituent [[House|Houses]]: Tridens and Gladius.

==History==

In the beginning, Grand Master Jac called for the formation of Houses, groups which would promote association and competition between the members and the Orders of the Brotherhood. Not all answered the call for the formation of these Houses. A notable few stood apart.

Among the most notable who stood apart was Magnus Kaerner, Commander of the Brotherhood's elite Tau Squadron. Under direct order from the newly crowned Grand Master Justinian Khyron (orders which would hold long lasting repercussions in the form of swearing allegiance to Khyron above all other Grand Masters), Kaerner organized and gathered his squadron to the banner of a new House - House Tarentum. From the very beginning, one of the nicknames for House Tarentum was "The Tau House." While some said this with jealous scorn, others expressed their respect in addressing Tarentum in this manner.

Quaestor Kaerner choose to settle on [[Yridia II]], the only naturally habitable planet in the system. Upon their arrival, the founders of Tarentum were promptly asked to leave. After a short but intense dialogue, the Yridians agreed to allow Tarentum to remain on the planet on the condition that they leave the few scattered islands of dry land to the Yridian people. Sly and cunning, the Dark Jedi of Tarentum abided by their agreement with the Yridians and built their fortress, [[Castle Tarentum]], under the ocean on the surface of the planet.

With the ascension of Grand Master Khyron to the Iron Throne, Kaerner was appointed Knight Commander of the Brotherhood and Zero succeeded him as Quaestor of House Tarentum. In his reign as Quaestor, Zero, together with his Aedile, Maxamillian von Oberst, brought about a prominent period in Tarentum's history. Not only is this marked as a period of great activity and prosperity for House Tarentum, but it also ushered in two more Legends into the annals of Tarentum's history: Sirrus and Reinthaler.

Quite possibly the greatest legacy left to Tarentum by the effective, if somewhat unconventional, team of Zero and Oberst is the Victory-''class'' Star Destroyer ''[[Corsair]]''. Won during the First House Wars, the heavy cruiser was awarded to Tarentum by Grand Master Khyron for its Victory over the other houses of the Brotherhood. As a tribute to the pirates that once sailed the seas of Yridia epoch ago, Quaestor Zero christened the flagship cruiser the Corsair.

Shortly after their glorious victory, Zero was chosen by Grand Master Khyron to serve as Deputy Grand Master of the Brotherhood. Before Oberst could ascend as Quaestor to the House, events in the Phare system called both Reinthaler and himself away, to quell sedition within the Infiltrator Wing. Sith Warrior Torquemada emerged as the new Quaestor with Sith Warrior Faron becoming Aedile.

As House Tarentum continued to grow, the leaders of the House felt that the future of Tarentum lay along a separate path than that of Clan Alvaak. House Tarentum became Clan Tarentum.

Quaestor Torquemada and Aedile Jammin were elevated to Consul and Proconsul of the new Clan. The members divided to form [[House Tridens]] and [[House Gladius]], named in an ancient, nearly forgotten, language for two fearsome weapons of war: the trident and the sword.

House Tridens, under the leadership of Quaestor Bull and Aedile Piett, remained within the sacred halls of Castle Tarentum. While House Gladius, under the direction of Quaestor Shadow and Aedile SilverFox, moved into an asteroid base within the [[Itanna belt|Itanna Asteroid Belt]], which is now known as [[The Sword's Sheath]].

With its newfound status as a clan, Tarentum continued along a very prosperous path for quite some time under the reign of its first two Consuls -- Torquemada and Shadow -- achieving many notable victories when the Brotherhood went to war. During the reign of Consul Torquemada, Tarentum once again held high honors within the Brotherhood as House Gladius and House Tridens were named First and Second Houses of the Brotherhood respectively.

During the time of Consul Shadow, there also continued to be an unmatched rate of Tarentum-trained Dark Jedi ascending to the Dark Council from the clan's houses and leadership alike, including Quaestors Dreadnaught & Imp22 of Gladius, and Proconsuls Bull & Kumba; Kumba being eventually succeeded by Nazkeldu, then-Quaestor of Gladius, for overall second-in-command.

At this time, a restructuring of great significance occurred within the Brotherhood as Grand Master Khyron declared that the Brotherhood's clans would now have three houses, each of a single order. House Tridens became aligned to the Sith Order, and House Gladius, to the Krath Order. This period saw the formation of Tarentum's third and youngest house, [[House Cestus]] of the Obelisk Order - which took up residence on the moon [[Koros]] orbiting Yridia II, and added a gauntlet to the clan's crest of a crossed sword and trident.

After a distinguished reign as Consul, Shadow chose to step down as leader of the Clan. In his place came Archibald Zoraan, whose service to Clan Tarentum as Consul was marked by extensive absence and neglect. Still, the Dark Council called upon Archibald Zoraan to ascend to the Iron Throne and assume the position of Grand Master of the Brotherhood. As his apprentice and Deputy Grand, Grand Master Zoraan chose Torquemada of Tarentum.

With the former Consul occupying the most powerful position in the Brotherhood, command of Tarentum was left in the hands of Consul Kodiak Tonaloc, a former Quaestor of Gladius. At this time, Proconsul Nazkeldu also stepped down, and Pel, then Quaestor of Tridens, succeeded him. This era is marked with a overbearing shadow of troubled times, not only for Tarentum, but for the Brotherhood as a whole.

The ascension of Grand Master Zoraan sparked warfare amongst the Clans as each tried to take advantage of new situations, or demonstrate their loyalty to the Iron Throne. After the Dark Council had suppressed the warfare, the Grand Master retreated to his private chambers for months at a time, engaging in bizarre studies in a specially constructed observatory at the peak of the Dark Hall.

When several outspoken members vanished under mysterious circumstances, and after a particularly lengthy period of absence by the Grand Master, Clans Taldryan and Naga Sadow openly declared rebellion against the Grand Master, beginning one of the bloodiest battles in Brotherhood history. When the Emperor's Hammer intervened, and agents of the Clans stood ready to depose the Grand Master by force, Zoraan used his abilities to destroy the Dark Hall in a violent Force Storm that raged out of control. Zoraan was presumably killed in the ensuing chaos, which left the Dark Hall, dozens of Dark Jedi, and thousands of years of historical artifacts and records in ruin.

Perhaps taken aback by the multitude of events, Kodiak did not remain long as Consul, but returned to Gladius, and was succeeded by Pel as Consul, and Ciara Tearnan appointed Proconsul. By this time, the entire Brotherhood was in partial chaos, and a new war was held. Tarentum, troubled by it's own leadership changes, did not perform up to its usual standards. Shortly thereafter Pel elected to return to Tridens, and Ciara Tearnan took over the mantle of Consul of Clan Tarentum.

The reign of Consul Ciara Tearnan was a good one; marked by victory and fortune for Clan Tarentum. Under the leadership of Quaestor Ziguarath, House Cestus arose as the champion Obelisk House and was bestowed the title of First House of the Obelisk. House Tridens claimed the title of the Brotherhood's best Sith. And House Gladius made its own mark as an outstanding Krath house.

Ciara's reign was also a time of gain, as new acquisitions where also made. House Tridens constructed the XQ4 Platform [[Aegis]] under the supervision of Quaestor Wil Striker. Clan Tarentum claimed the M/CRV Cerberus as a prize in the military operation known as "Deception,"; the three-way feud between Clan Naga Sadow, Clan Arcona and Clan Tarentum. House Gladius was not without its share of triumph. The Keepers of the Night, led by Lady Telona Murrage, claimed a great victory over the other Krath receiving as their prize a tome from the very libraries of the Dark Hall itself.

When it was not preoccupied in it's conquests, Clan Tarentum found itself in a never before seen state of expansion and development. Several projects and systems were put in place or reestablished from the past. Master-Apprentice pairings once again flourished as senior members took student under their wing and a system of trials for Knighthood was instituted that consisted of three parts: one from the House Summits, one from the Clan Summits, and a third test from the Master.

Okemi, fallen Warlord of the ancient Star Chamber, perpetuated the Consciousness in the absence of Lord Firefox. As a group, the Tarentae comprise a fraternal Inner Circle of Tarentum, one which is concerned for the integrity and prosperity of the Clan above all else. They are examples of loyalty and diligent service for members of both the present and future to look to. '''Clan Tarentum''' is one of six remaining Dark Jedi [[Clan|Clans]] within the [[Dark Brotherhood|Brotherhood of Dark Jedi]]. It currently has two constituent [[House|Houses]]: Tridens and Gladius.

==History==

In the beginning, Grand Master Jac called for the formation of Houses, groups which would promote association and competition between the members and the Orders of the Brotherhood. Not all answered the call for the formation of these Houses. A notable few stood apart.

Among the most notable who stood apart was Magnus Kaerner, Commander of the Brotherhood's elite Tau Squadron. Under direct order from the newly crowned Grand Master Justinian Khyron (orders which would hold long lasting repercussions in the form of swearing allegiance to Khyron above all other Grand Masters), Kaerner organized and gathered his squadron to the banner of a new House - House Tarentum. From the very beginning, one of the nicknames for House Tarentum was "The Tau House." While some said this with jealous scorn, others expressed their respect in addressing Tarentum in this manner.

Quaestor Kaerner choose to settle on [[Yridia II]], the only naturally habitable planet in the system. Upon their arrival, the founders of Tarentum were promptly asked to leave. After a short but intense dialogue, the Yridians agreed to allow Tarentum to remain on the planet on the condition that they leave the few scattered islands of dry land to the Yridian people. Sly and cunning, the Dark Jedi of Tarentum abided by their agreement with the Yridians and built their fortress, [[Castle Tarentum]], under the ocean on the surface of the planet.

With the ascension of Grand Master Khyron to the Iron Throne, Kaerner was appointed Knight Commander of the Brotherhood and Zero succeeded him as Quaestor of House Tarentum. In his reign as Quaestor, Zero, together with his Aedile, Maxamillian von Oberst, brought about a prominent period in Tarentum's history. Not only is this marked as a period of great activity and prosperity for House Tarentum, but it also ushered in two more Legends into the annals of Tarentum's history: Sirrus and Reinthaler.

Quite possibly the greatest legacy left to Tarentum by the effective, if somewhat unconventional, team of Zero and Oberst is the Victory-''class'' Star Destroyer ''[[Corsair]]''. Won during the First House Wars, the heavy cruiser was awarded to Tarentum by Grand Master Khyron for its Victory over the other houses of the Brotherhood. As a tribute to the pirates that once sailed the seas of Yridia epoch ago, Quaestor Zero christened the flagship cruiser the Corsair.

Shortly after their glorious victory, Zero was chosen by Grand Master Khyron to serve as Deputy Grand Master of the Brotherhood. Before Oberst could ascend as Quaestor to the House, events in the Phare system called both Reinthaler and himself away, to quell sedition within the Infiltrator Wing. Sith Warrior Torquemada emerged as the new Quaestor with Sith Warrior Faron becoming Aedile.

As House Tarentum continued to grow, the leaders of the House felt that the future of Tarentum lay along a separate path than that of Clan Alvaak. House Tarentum became Clan Tarentum.

Quaestor Torquemada and Aedile Jammin were elevated to Consul and Proconsul of the new Clan. The members divided to form [[House Tridens]] and [[House Gladius]], named in an ancient, nearly forgotten, language for two fearsome weapons of war: the trident and the sword.

House Tridens, under the leadership of Quaestor Bull and Aedile Piett, remained within the sacred halls of Castle Tarentum. While House Gladius, under the direction of Quaestor Shadow and Aedile SilverFox, moved into an asteroid base within the [[Itanna belt|Itanna Asteroid Belt]], which is now known as [[The Sword's Sheath]].

With its newfound status as a clan, Tarentum continued along a very prosperous path for quite some time under the reign of its first two Consuls -- Torquemada and Shadow -- achieving many notable victories when the Brotherhood went to war. During the reign of Consul Torquemada, Tarentum once again held high honors within the Brotherhood as House Gladius and House Tridens were named First and Second Houses of the Brotherhood respectively.

During the time of Consul Shadow, there also continued to be an unmatched rate of Tarentum-trained Dark Jedi ascending to the Dark Council from the clan's houses and leadership alike, including Quaestors Dreadnaught & Imp22 of Gladius, and Proconsuls Bull & Kumba; Kumba being eventually succeeded by Nazkeldu, then-Quaestor of Gladius, for overall second-in-command.

At this time, a restructuring of great significance occurred within the Brotherhood as Grand Master Khyron declared that the Brotherhood's clans would now have three houses, each of a single order. House Tridens became aligned to the Sith Order, and House Gladius, to the Krath Order. This period saw the formation of Tarentum's third and youngest house, [[House Cestus]] of the Obelisk Order - which took up residence on the moon [[Koros]] orbiting Yridia II, and added a gauntlet to the clan's crest of a crossed sword and trident.

After a distinguished reign as Consul, Shadow chose to step down as leader of the Clan. In his place came Archibald Zoraan, whose service to Clan Tarentum as Consul was marked by extensive absence and neglect. Still, the Dark Council called upon Archibald Zoraan to ascend to the Iron Throne and assume the position of Grand Master of the Brotherhood. As his apprentice and Deputy Grand, Grand Master Zoraan chose Torquemada of Tarentum.

With the former Consul occupying the most powerful position in the Brotherhood, command of Tarentum was left in the hands of Consul Kodiak Tonaloc, a former Quaestor of Gladius. At this time, Proconsul Nazkeldu also stepped down, and Pel, then Quaestor of Tridens, succeeded him. This era is marked with a overbearing shadow of troubled times, not only for Tarentum, but for the Brotherhood as a whole.

The ascension of Grand Master Zoraan sparked warfare amongst the Clans as each tried to take advantage of new situations, or demonstrate their loyalty to the Iron Throne. After the Dark Council had suppressed the warfare, the Grand Master retreated to his private chambers for months at a time, engaging in bizarre studies in a specially constructed observatory at the peak of the Dark Hall.

When several outspoken members vanished under mysterious circumstances, and after a particularly lengthy period of absence by the Grand Master, Clans Taldryan and Naga Sadow openly declared rebellion against the Grand Master, beginning one of the bloodiest battles in Brotherhood history. When the Emperor's Hammer intervened, and agents of the Clans stood ready to depose the Grand Master by force, Zoraan used his abilities to destroy the Dark Hall in a violent Force Storm that raged out of control. Zoraan was presumably killed in the ensuing chaos, which left the Dark Hall, dozens of Dark Jedi, and thousands of years of historical artifacts and records in ruin.

Perhaps taken aback by the multitude of events, Kodiak did not remain long as Consul, but returned to Gladius, and was succeeded by Pel as Consul, and Ciara Tearnan appointed Proconsul. By this time, the entire Brotherhood was in partial chaos, and a new war was held. Tarentum, troubled by it's own leadership changes, did not perform up to its usual standards. Shortly thereafter Pel elected to return to Tridens, and Ciara Tearnan took over the mantle of Consul of Clan Tarentum.

The reign of Consul Ciara Tearnan was a good one; marked by victory and fortune for Clan Tarentum. Under the leadership of Quaestor Ziguarath, House Cestus arose as the champion Obelisk House and was bestowed the title of First House of the Obelisk. == Introduction ==
Ambition is one of the defining characteristics of those who walk the Dark Path. Through their own desire, and lust for power, they have succeeded in throwing off the values of their cultural backgrounds, and accepting the goals and discipline of the Brotherhood. The problems within an organization as diverse as the Brotherhood, must be overcome with some form of stratification Those in power, the Grand Masters and Elders of the Dark Side carefully instruct their students, using their drive to success as a means of maintaining control over the masses of Journeymen and Equites. This creates an intensely contentious political atmosphere within the Brotherhood.

The most obvious of the political controls, is the Hierarchy of Classes and [[Ranks]]. Every Dark Jedi who seeks, and gains admission to the Brotherhood begins on the bottom of the ladder. The Grand Masters disregard all prior training in the [[Jedi]] Arts, and may even suppress the power of an unusual applicant. This ensures that all applicants may begin training according to the strict procedures of the [[Shadow Academy]]. The [[Dark Side of The Force]] is tempting in its allure to quick power, and will draw the attentions of the ambitious. Many [[Apprentice|Apprentices]] literally burn themselves out on emotional fuel as they seek power beyond what they are capable of understanding. The Brotherhood stresses the need for gradual development.

Most political positions, such as [[Clan Summit|Summit]] status, and [[Dark Council|Dark Councilor]] are also dependent on a certain rank. As a Brethren progresses, and develops understanding, they are rewarded with positions of greater prestige. It is almost unheard of for a [[Protector]] to command a [[Phyle]] or [[Squadron]], much less a [[House]], whereas a [[Dark Jedi Knight|Knight]] of reasonable influence could expect to achieve a command position within a [[House]]. [[Elder|Elders]] are almost universally on the [[Dark Council]] or seated upon a [[Clan Summit]]. Those who are not positioned are usually [[Rogue]] Jedi, though a significant number are still active within the [[Clans]].

==Rank Elevations ==
It is a great honour when any Dark Jedi receives a rank elevation. When a Dark Jedi advances, it is because a mentor has determined that the Dark Jedi has surpassed the abilities of his current rank. Only certain Jedi can give rank elevations to others. However, anyone may recommend someone for advancement. The Grand Master and the Master at Arms have final jurisdiction over all advancements. If they do not find that the candidate is worthy, then no elevation is given. All advancements must be approved by the Master At Arms prior to the announcement of the new rank, with the sole exception of the Headmaster of the Shadow Academy, who is able to directly confer elevations through the Journeymen ranks in the course of a Dark Jedi's training. The Master At Arms will generally approve promotions according to the following table. Should a person reccomend another for a promotion past what their position normally entails, the MAA will get DGM or GM approval before proceding.

Trevarus Irad Caerick is the birth name of the beings known alternatively as Trevarus Sadow or Shan Long. Regarded as one of the most influential and powerful Elders to ever walk the Final Way, Trevarus has influenced many spheres of [[Dark Brotherhood|Brotherhood]] development. Being an intensely insular, secretive man, Alaerus never revealed the birth of his son to the [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Jedi_Council Jedi Council], instead quietly raising and training his scion in the ways of [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_force the Force]. Like his father, Trevarus showed an affinity to the delicate arts of the [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Lightsaber lightsaber], languages, and perceiving the deep visions the Force provides. Unlike his father, he displayed a dangerous layer of outright malice.

When Trevarus had barely passed his sixteenth birthday, the political transition to an[http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Empire Empire] finally decided his fate. Empowered by pure rage, Trevarus wielded his father's lightsaber and destroyed all but the Adept. Fascinated by the young man's raw potential, he captured the boy and brought him back to [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Coruscant Coruscant] as his protege.

Tobasa continued the boy's training in the ways of the Dark Side, having fully corrupted his fragile young spirit over the course of two years' enslavement. Barely weeks before the Rebel attack on the [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Death_star Death Star] at [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Yavin_4 Yavin IV], Tobasa attempted to overthrow the [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Emperor Emperor]. Trevarus barely survived the attempt to steal a powerful artifact from the Emperor's grasp. For his crime, Tobasa was sentenced to death, but escaped. Five years are a complete mystery. Trevarus never speaks of this time. However, this span seemed to have greatly affected his drive to explore, as evidenced later in his life.

Before the legendary [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Endor Battle of Endor], Trevarus was recalled to [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_Center Imperial Center] by [http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Vader Darth Vader] himself.
