The gloves do not require any external power supply because they are powered using ‘kinetic power cells’ that are self-generating.

No weapons of any kind can be wielded while the user wears any type of shock boxing gloves. They cannot allow a dexterous hand, that is of any use, due to the necessary construction of the conduits. Many practitioners have tried to develop a glove that would allow them to wield another weapon, but all attempts have failed, citing impedance issues and personal injury from shock.

Shock Boxing is taught in several small studios across the Universe, many of the matches receiving pretty lucrative holonet contracts from sports entertainment companies.

Devised primarily for sport and fitness, the [[starwars:Hapan|Hapan]] people quickly found out that the ritualized combat form translated quite well into real life and death combat. Codified into a complete system, the Hapan materialists became rather well known in competitions, a [[starwars:Duke|Duke]] of the Hapan having won the [[starwars:Coruscant|Coruscanti]] championship three years in a row.

The current iteration of Hapan Martial Arts is taught in expensive colleges, alongside history and etiquette, as well as in the [[Dark Brotherhood]]. Fencing, boxing, and other combative aspects round out the training of a Hapan Noble in these finishing school. Populated almost entirely by aristocratic youths, the occasional wealthy out lander can be seen in the halls, provided that they have a pedigree impressive enough for the Headmaster.

The art is used by far more than just the [[starwars:Noble|nobles]] of the Cluster, however. The success of the art in the Championships made the art very popular among those people seeking to better their own combat skills, and many gyms claiming to teach Hapan Martial Arts sprung up across the civilized galaxy. While the quality of this off-world instruction varies from teacher to teacher, it is undeniable that Hapan is a popular art.

Adding to the mystique of Hapan is the teaching of many various weapons, many of which seem geared toward the improvisational. Because of this training, it is often quoted that a Master of Hapan need never worry about being disarmed.

Hapan students are taught to turn slightly sideways, strong side back, with the forward fist turned 45 degrees out in front of the chest, the strong side fist chambered at the waist. When using a sword or a cane, the strong hand holds the weapon parallel to the ground.

The typical strike in Hapan is a straight-forward affair. Turning into the strike, the blow comes in a straight line at the foe. There are also a good number of lunging strikes, where the practitioner darts in to make a strike.

With few blocks, Hapan arts tend to use deflections and counterattacks to keep themselves out of harms way. Effectively utilizing one's natural grace and dexterity is key to the Hapan Defense.

[[Broken Gate]] is an ancient martial art first formulated by the [[starwars:Jedi|Jedi]] in the era before the [[starwars:Galactic_Republic|Republic]] and is currently practiced by members of the [[Dark Brotherhood]]. The style focuses on strong upper-body strikes powered by both muscle and body movement, as well as powerful knee strikes and stomping kicks. Defense relies primarily on avoiding or withstanding attacks.

Before the Republic was formed, the Jedi were required to be a primarily martial order. Their training was intended to both develop their self-discipline and make them effective fighting tools to guard the nascent galactic government. Like all of their training, the Jedi taught Broken Gate between one master and one student, although masters would take as many as two or three students if instruction was hard to come by.

The beginnings of Broken Gate training are characterized by long, deep stances designed to develop strength in the martial artist's legs. Then, repetitive basic punches and kicks are added to improve muscle memory and develop upper-body strength and overall flexibility. Broken Gate schools were famous for their day-long training sessions where students would stay in a prescribed stance for upwards of ten hours, constantly punching and kicking. As training progressed, students were required to learn how to take blows from each other – as the student climbed in rank, the blows would become more forceful.

Broken Gate is characterized by hard upper-body strikes and stomping kicks. The attacks are designed to penetrate an opponent's guard through the sheer level of damage inflicted; the art's name was taken from a story of the first Master, Jae Dal, who reputedly smashed open a meter-thick [[starwars:Wood|wooden]] gate with one blow of his fist. Because of the nature of the strikes, Broken Gate practitioners tend to avoid secondary blocks, and train themselves to dodge or simply absorb attacks. Lower-level students tend to dodge more, while more experienced fighters could shrug off most strikes. Masters of Broken Gate were legendary for their resilience, able to brush away even the fiercest of unarmed blows.

After developing leg strength and proper stance, Broken Gate fighters can stand as if “rooted” to the ground. While this stance is difficult to move from, it makes the Broken Gate fighter very difficult to push, unbalance or throw.

Striking uses some hip rotation to achieve its power, though kicks rely more on the strength of the leg muscles. Some hip motion is included, typically thrusting the hips in the direction of the blow as the attack is launched. Strikes are performed with the heel of the foot or closed fist to maximize damage and prevent injury to the attacker.

Broken Gate tends to use static blocks, absorbing the blow on harder surfaces like the shin and forearm rather than take the blow on a soft target like the stomach or face. The art does teach some evasion techniques, but the Average Broken Gate stylist will more frequently use a block.
